Publisher's Summary
Now a major TV series on Channel 5.
The second collection of memoirs from the author who inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. This omnibus edition comprises the majority of chapters from Let Sleeping Vets Lie and Vets in Harness.
Now settled into the sleepy Yorkshire village of Darrowby, and married to Helen the farmer’s daughter, James Herriot thinks he’s finally got himself sorted. But life as a vet in the 1930s was never going to be easy. Quite aside from his unpredictable colleagues, brothers Siegfried and Tristan Farnon, he must contend with new-fangled medical techniques, delivering calves after far too much homemade wine, and a grudge-holding dog called Magnus who never forgets. And then, with Britain on the verge of war, James faces a decision that could separate him from Darrowby - and Helen - for ever.
Since they were first published, James Herriot’s memoirs have sold millions of copies and entranced generations of animal lovers. Charming, funny and touching, All Things Bright and Beautiful is a heartwarming story of determination, love and companionship from one of Britain’s best-loved authors.
Critic Reviews
"I grew up reading James Herriot's books and I'm delighted that 30 years on they are still every bit as charming, heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny as they were then." (Kate Humble)
"Herriot's enchanting tales of life in the Dales are deservedly classics. Full of extraordinary characters, animal and human, the books never fail to delight." (Amanda Owen, best-selling author of The Yorkshire Shepherdess)

More excellent narration from the newest Herriot!
More classic adventures of Herriot with further stellar voice characterisation from Nicholas Ralph. Bringing multiple wonderfully individual characters to life... Excellent on audio as well as on screen series. Highly recommend Nicholas Ralph on audio.

Beautifully funny.
I just loved this. The characters, both human and animal are discribed with wit and detail. The pictures painted of landscape and weather are vivid and beautiful. At times so funny and others so sad. couldn't stop listening,

Wonderful
This is the 2nd Herriot book and I loved it, I have watched the 2nd new series on TV so was lovely to listen to the books too as always the TV changes for entertainment and you can see in the books. There are many funny parts and sad parts but on the whole its a lovely book with no swearing, how James put up with Siegfried I don't know. I would also recommend looking up information about the real Herriot, James Alfred Wight its very interesting.
Nicholas Ralph who plays Herriot in the new TV series is perfect at the narration in these book he does the Yorkshire accent brilliantly and mimics Siegfried just like the actor in the TV series. I can't wait for next book and 3rd series on TV.
