Publisher's Summary

“A poignant, heart-tugging, life-affirming story that will wrap around you like a hug during any season. Keep tissues nearby!” (Josie Silver, number one New York Times best-selling author of One Day in December)

It started with a letter. It ended with a love story.

Every December, Josie posts a letter from her home in London to the parents she lost on Christmas night many years ago. Each year, she writes the same three words: Missing you, always. But this year, her annual trip to the postbox is knocked off course by a bicycle collision with a handsome stranger - a stranger who will change the course of Josie's life.

Josie always thought she was the only one who avoided the Christmas season, but this year, Max has his own reasons for doing the same - and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Aglow with new love, Josie thinks this might be the start of something special.

Only for Max to disappear without saying goodbye.

Over the course of the next year, Max and Josie will find that fate continues to bring them together in places they'd never expect. New York City. Edinburgh. The quiet English countryside. And it turns out, Max had every reason to leave and every reason to stay. But what does fate hold for Josie and Max as Christmas approaches again?

A devastating, romantic, life-affirming love story, Always, in December will stay with listeners long after they've finished the last chapter.

Critic Reviews

“I adored this sweepingly romantic, captivating love story. A poignant page-turner, this gorgeous book is as uplifting and hopeful as it is heartbreaking. If you’re looking for a true will-they-won't-they tearjerker to capture your heart this Christmas, look no further.” (Holly Miller, author of The Sight of You)

If I could dream the perfect gut wrenching love story, it would be this. I laughed, I cried, I never wanted it to end.

This was so good and so sad

This was so good and so sad. A shocking twist in the end that will leave you gasping. A story that reminds you to live your life to the fullest and trust and allow yourself to love and be loved. Allow second chances when your mind, body amd spirit tells you. Beautifully written worth the read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

currently sobbing

if you read the reviews, you'll know this isn't your normal rom-com. it's a love story with happiness, spontaneity, love, and loss. it's a beautiful story. the characters are incredible and real. I think they handled things as would most people. it's hard to go into this and not be stopped short when you see everyone say it leaves you crying. so i'm sorry if this spoiled something for you. once I found out, it was like constantly waiting for the shoe to drop. i'm not sure if I would have preferred not knowing. it's a beautiful story, though. just know, I haven't cried this hard in a long time.

More than I expected

This was so much more than I expected. I loved the way the story switched perspectives and the narrator was wonderful. What a beautiful story of loss and love. ❤️

First debut novel!?

Wow! Impressed especially knowing this was her first debut novel. The story. The love. The heartache. It’s a rollercoaster, but a ride I’m thankful I experienced. Looking forward to more works by Emily.

Wow…..

To me, who narrates the story is extremely important. Heather Long made this *incredible* story that much better. Wonderful. Unexpected. I gasped out loud and my mouth fell open at the gym, causing everyone around me to look up to make sure I was ok! Woops. Read or listen. You’ll love it.

Not what I was expecting

Started strong but meandered unnecessarily to a really unsatisfying ending. Wish I had stopped halfway through.

Lovely Story & spot on accent narration

I really enjoyed this book. It was delightful. It is absolutely in my top 5 listens for narration. There were back and forth conversations form British to Scottish to American, and Heather Long was so good at this that I never felt pulled out of the story as often happens. If you like heartwarming reads with characters who are real, this is a great one.
