Publisher's Summary
Librarian. Assassin. Vampire.
Amber Fang enjoys life's simple pleasures - a good book, a glass of wine and, of course, a great meal.
Raised to eat ethically, Amber dines only on delicious, cold-blooded killers. But being sure they're actually killers takes time...research...patience.
It's a good thing Amber's a librarian. Her extraordinary skills help her hunt down her prey, seek out other vampires, and stay on the trail of her mother, missing now for two years. One day she stalks a rather tasty-looking murderer and things get messy. Very messy. Amber, the hunter, becomes the hunted.
And then, from out of nowhere, the perfect job offer: Assassin. She'd be paid to eat the world's worst butchers. How ideal.
Until it isn't.
Amber Fang is the first book in a new action and adventure vampire series by best-selling author Arthur Slade.

Amber Fang
Given the tag line Librarian Assassin Vampire I couldn't resist. Unfortunately it turns out that those three things together aren't for me. The story was fun and I enjoyed the campyness of it but from time to time the dialogue just didn't work for me.
My biggest complaint was the narration. I felt Amber did great for Amber. Her voice fit Amber's personality perfectly. Couldn't deal with her voice for any of the male characters, especially Martin. Dermot just seemed like a fool with the voice she used and Martin's voice caused me to cringe, sounded like Aughra from the Dark Crystal, kept waiting to hear him say Gelfling.

3.5* - narration detracts from audiobook
Any additional comments?
This is my first experience with this author and I was pleasantly surprised. There were only two instances of the book where the heroine behaved in a way that didn't fit with my mental image of her character (in a class and in Iceland). But otherwise, I found her to be a very appealing protagonist. The writing was witty and the characters were all likeable. For the first book in the series, the book ended at a good transition point.
Now it's time to get on my soapbox about narration. I've been teaching female grad students at a post-secondary education institution for years, and I've never had a student who sounded like Amber. I was once a grad student in my early/mid '20s (many years ago) and I never came across anyone in my class who sounded like that either. The narrator voiced a teenager character, someone you might find in a high school drama class. I don't mean to hammer on the narrator, but if this is her range and her vocal style, then I think a better fit for her would be narrating stories intended for younger audiences. She's certainly enthusiastic, that's for sure!
So, because I didn't find the narration compelling and I did find the story compelling, I set my playback speed to 2x so I could find out what happened in the story. I wouldn't have finished the audiobook if I played it at regular speed. I'd definitely, definitely read the next story in this series. I definitely would not listen to the next story in this series with this narrator; in my opinion, she's a good children's book narrator, but she's not Amber Fang.
I provided my opinion in exchange for a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author, narrator, or publisher.

This is an enjoyable listen. There are new and varied elements to the vampire mythology . I really like the character of Amber and it was fun to follow her struggles as the story progressed. Entertaining & fun
I enjoyed the unique twist on this vampiric tale. the fact that this vampire was actually given birth to. Puts it into an entirely new realm.
Naration was OK just a little too long of pause between sentences. For me she wasn't quite smooth enough.
Saying that I will purchase the next book in this series both Audible and Kindle versions, when they become available.

Frustrated
I love the story of Amber Fang and was looking forward to it being an audiobook. 😜 I was very disappointed by the performer. She spoke to fast and without emotional tones. Amber is a thoughtful young woman with that undertone of predator. The actress didn't portray that at all.

Fangtastically Fun & Adventurous!!!!
Amber Fang was such a fun book to listen to. The Narrator was great and I am very picky when it comes to narrator's. Amber has trust issues and due to her young age and the fact that she basically has been on her own for most of her life she makes some very quick and not very smart decisions which land her in sticky situations. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to book #2

would not recommend
poorly written book, seems like it was going to copy the story of Nikita. only using a vampire instead of a Restless girl. narration was not very well done either. Girls voice was very high pitched and not very good at using different voices. punctuation animotion throughout the book was poor at best. storyline itself was short and pointless and I would say it left you with a cliffhanger but more like just unanswered questions. Felt more like a television series that ended prematurely because it wasn't getting ratings. possibly it would have been better if it was narrated by someone else.

Hard to listen to
I couldn’t get through chapter two. The beginning of the story was a great set-up for what’s to come, but I just couldn’t get past the voice of the narrator. While she clearly has the ability, she doesn’t put any real feeling into the story. It sounds like she’s reading, not storytelling.

So-so
Im glad this was only a short book, as was couldn't really get into it. Was told from the first person which found so distracting with this narrator. I had to increase the speed to make it bearable, she seems to always put the inflection on the wrong word or sentence. So many questions were left unanswered, but wasn't entertaining enough to continue on with book 2 to get them answered.
