If the Bouvier women personified beauty, style, and fashion, it was their lust for money and status that drove them to seek out powerful men, no matter what the cost to themselves or to those they stepped on in their ruthless climb to the top. Based on hundreds of new interviews with friends and family of the Bouviers, among them their own half brother, as well as letters and journals, J. Randy Taraborrelli paints an extraordinary psychological portrait of two famous sisters and their ferociously ambitious mother.

In The Diana Chronicles, you will meet a formidable female cast and understand as never before the society that shaped them: among them, Diana's sexually charged mother, her bad-girl sister-in-law, Fergie, and, most formidable of them all, her mother-in-law, the Queen. Add Camilla Parker-Bowles, the ultimate "other woman" into this combustible mix, and it's no wonder that Diana broke out of her royal cage into celebrity culture, where she found her own power and used it to devastating effect.

Story
What does it mean to be a Kennedy? If ever three women would be challenged and changed by marriage into a family, it would be Jacqueline Bouvier, Ethel Skakel, and Joan Bennett. None of these radiant brides could have ever been prepared for the fame, the family, and tragedies that would spring from their lives. As they struggled to cope with their husbands' infidelities, the harsh glare of the media, and the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy, these women would learn what it meant to be sisters, reaching out to one another with comfort and consolation.

Publisher's Summary
In America's Queen, the acclaimed biographer of Queen Elizabeth and Princess Grace reveals the real Jackie in a sympathetic but frank portrait of an amazing woman who has dazzled us for years.
Using remarkable new sources - including in-depth interviews with Jackie's sister, Lee Radziwell - Sarah Bradford has written a timely celebration of a life that was more private than commonly supposed.
Jackie's privileged upbringing instilled rigid self-control, while her expedient marriage into the overwhelming Kennedy clan consolidated her determination. Revealing new testimony from many of the couple's friends shows the profound complexities both of this apparently very public relationship and of her controversial marriage to Aristotle Onassis.
Here is the private Jackie - neglected wife, vigilant mother, and working widow - whose contradictory and fascinating nature is illuminated by all that Bradford has discovered.

This is the most intimate biograghy, and perhaps the most accurate book of Jackie's entire life. It is the second best work ever published about our most beloved First Lady, the finest being Sally Bedell Smith's Grace And Power, which was written some time afterward. This recording of Bradford's biography was originally released on both cassette and CD audio in abridged form, as is this recording. I would have enjoyed this so much more if this audible reading had been unabridged as so many lengthy biographies are, because Sandra Burr's voice is execellent.

The Life of an American Icon
Where does America's Queen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was a fascinating story about one of the most famous women in the world, the story however did not really shed any light on this woman's life.
What did you like best about this story?
I really enjoyed the the whole Onassis period of her life.
Which character – as performed by Sandra Burr – was your favorite?
I found Sandra Burr's narration competent if somewhat flat. She was just reading and did try to imitate any of the characters in this book.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Double Edge Sword of Fame.
Any additional comments?
I think it is somewhat sad that this intelligent woman rather than relying on her own obvious skills, choose to marry rich instead of carving out a solid career for herself. Achieving this only in the later part of her life.
