Publisher's Summary

The ninth novel of the bestselling Rivers of London urban fantasy series returns to the adventures of Peter Grant, detective and apprentice wizard, as he solves magical crimes in the city of London.

There is a world hidden underneath this great city.

The London Silver Vaults—for well over a century, the largest collection of silver for sale in the world. It has more locks than the Bank of England and more cameras than a paparazzi convention.

Not somewhere you can murder someone and vanish without a trace—only that’s what happened.

The disappearing act, the reports of a blinding flash of light, and memory loss amongst the witnesses all make this a case for Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit.

Alongside their boss DCI Thomas Nightingale, the SAU find themselves embroiled in a mystery that encompasses London’s tangled history, foreign lands and, most terrifying of all, the North!

And Peter must solve this case soon, because back home his partner Beverley is expecting twins any day now. But what he doesn’t know is that he’s about to encounter something—and somebody—that nobody ever expects…

Effortlessly original, endlessly inventive and hugely entertaining—step into the world of the much-loved, bestselling Rivers of London series.

Oh I wish I didn’t go through these so fast…

Like all of this series, terribly smart and funny and entertaining. I feel guilty for wanting more when Aaronovitch just finished this one. And Holdbrook-Smith is such a wonderful story teller.

Thank you both

Another fantastic addition to Aaronovitch’s masterful series

I have just finished listening to ‘Amongst Our Weapons’ twice in a row. Aaronovitch’s writing is so rich, funny, and textured that it’s hard to take it all in in just one listen. Holdbrook-Smith’s ability to imbue the characters of Peter et al. with such rich and vibrant personalities is remarkable. The Peter Grant series is a treasure to read over and over again.

Author and narrator are perfectly matched

I've already expressed my admiration for Ben Aaronovitch in reviews for previous books in this series, so let's talk about the narrator, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. His voice is so smooth and rich that it's a pure pleasure just to hear the sound of it. I'm in awe of his ability to give each character a distinct sound. Peter's dry wit and Nightingale's upper class sang froid are both absolutely perfect and I'm constantly amazed that they're voiced by the same man. And as always, now that I've finished this latest entry I'll immediately go back to the beginning and spend the next several days replaying the previous books.

Back to basics

This was one of the best from the rivers of London. Aaronovitch went back to the things I love best. A good detective story, having all the characters I really like and developing and growing the characters. The talking foxes as animal companions are a great touch.

Absolutely brilliant

A fantastic addition the series. I love Ben Aaronovitch’s seamlessly including call backs to prior works without getting bogged down. The whole fam is back this time and it was so well done. Peter (and us readers) have a wild ride ahead! Kobna Holdbrook-Smith continues to be a top notch narrator. Thank you both!

Brilliant writing moments - my series favorite

There are some moments in this audio book where Ben Aaronovitch and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith are In-the-Zone. This is my favorite book of the series. It's brilliant.

Needs more Nightingale and less Leslie

A fun edition to the series. An angelic-like creature is running around and creating mayhem while possibly tracking down some magic rings. It is always worthwhile to revisit Peter Grant, this time as he gets an addition to his family. Many of the usual characters make appearances, but the story could use more Nightingale. Also, it is time for Leslie to be captured, she is an underwhelming choice for master criminal.

Constructed as well as the Nightingale’s Jaguar

This book fires on all cylinders, with a surprising and intricate plot that adds depth and pace to the series’ usual excellent characters and dialog.

Magical Storytelling About The Magic Police.

I have eagerly anticipated every volume in this series and have yet to be disappointed by any of them. From the first word of the first book I've been captivated by the characters and their lives.
The stories are top tier and the narration is phenomenal.

I do not hesitate to recommend these to anyone.
