Publisher's Summary

Snowflake CEO Frank Slootman is one of the tech world's most accomplished executives in enterprise growth, having led Snowflake to the largest software IPO ever after leading Data Domain and ServiceNow to exponential growth and the public market before that. In Amp It Up, he shares his leadership approach for the first time.

Amp It Up delivers an authoritative look at what it takes to transform an organization for maximum growth and scale. Slootman shows that most leaders have significant room to improve their organization's performance without making expensive changes to their talent, structure, or fundamental business model - and they don't need to bring in an army of consultants to do it. What they do need is to align people around what matters and execute with urgency and intensity every day.

Leading for unprecedented growth means declaring war on mediocrity, breaking the status quo, and making conflicted choices daily, all with a relentless focus on the mission. Amp It Up provides the first principles to guide that change, and the tactical advice for organizing a company around them. Perfect for executives, entrepreneurs, founders, managers, and leaders of all kinds, Amp It Up is a must-have resource for anyone who seeks to unleash the growth potential of a company and scale it to heights they never thought possible.

Must read

I’m a first time CEO and this book hit on everything I needed to hear. I suggest buying the hard copy too because you’re going to want to take your highlighter out and make notes in the margin.
This will be an annual read for me.

Same old book

This book has been written 100's of times before. Move fast, get rid of bad hires, pay attention to the customer. Oh yeah, "without me as the CEO the world would fail."

Ruthlessly run a business

I agree with the principles presented in this book although they may seem somewhat harsh to some young listeners. It’s a good listen but not so much about how to inspire people with leadership.

Great for people who operate companies

The best book I’ve read on business execution.

For the casual reader, I’d recommend a more narrative driven business book like The Hard Thing About Hard Things.

Amp It Up is smarter and more tactical. It stays short as it assumes a lot on the reader’s end. The reader may not fully understand what Slootman is talking about unless they themselves are a C-level executive (sans CSO) running a company.

Thank you for writing this book!! I took over a month to read this short book, taking notes on many of the insights and seeing if they’d apply to my org. A legendary operator recommended this to me. I’ve since recommended it to a number of operators who loved it.

Every executive should digest this book.

This book is excellent, and every leadership team will benefit from the wisdom offered within. I’ll be re-reading this carefully.

A Leaders Leader

Don't just be a hearer of this word but an executor of this word. Loved the flow and candid nature of the author.

Nothing much on tips and strategies to amp it up.

Very generic book. This is more of authors previous experiences. I did not learn anything from this book. No practical tips or strategies.

Great examples and points to highligh execution

Frank definitely brings it home towards the end by talking very clearly and enumerating the key measures of execution that leads to success. Even if you’re not on a CEO path, but value the characteristics of a leader, several examples in this book are quite illustrative.

Ego driven story poorly told

Honestly surprising that this was a leadership story from the 2020s and not the 1920s. Filled with lots of outdated and frankly sexist references to war and sports and "that lady down the hall" and so forth.

And if only to makes things worse I found the narration very jarring. Very strange word stress and pauses in sentences, which for me made an already poor story harder to get through.

Thankfully it's a short tale. One of the few positives, along with a few takeaways that you'd most likely already know anyway.

Frank suggests to apply your style and learning

learned how to adjust myself to be a good operator. I feel I was too timid to push. Useful guide for those bolder personalities.
