Verses you have read many times will impact you in a new way when you hear them through the Listener’s Audio Bible (NIV). Read in a single voice with subtle background music, Max McLean’s skillful, engaging, but never over-dramatized style will bring the complete Bible to life.

Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible? That's because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past - including William Tyndale's New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611. But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years.

Story
A masterpiece of deep learning and fine sensibility, Robert Alter's translation of the Hebrew Bible, now complete, reanimates one of the formative works of our culture. Capturing its brilliantly compact poetry and finely wrought, purposeful prose, Alter renews the Old Testament as a source of literary power and spiritual inspiration. From the family frictions of Genesis and King David's flawed humanity to the serene wisdom of Psalms and Job's incendiary questioning of God's ways, these magnificent works of world literature resonate with a startling immediacy.

Publisher's Summary
“Break Through the Language Barrier, Expand Your Understanding”
The Amplified Bible is a Literal Equivalent translation that, by using synonyms and definitions, both explains and expands the meaning of words in the text. This unique system of translation allows the reader to more completely and clearly grasp the meaning as it was understood in the original Hebrew and Greek languages.
For example, the Greek word pisteuo, which the vast majority of versions render as “believe.” That simple translation, however, hardly does justice to the many meanings contained in the Greek pisteuo: “to adhere to, cleave to; to trust to have faith in; to rely on, to depend on.”

A few strange interpretations here!
This is a Bible for use by a mature Christian, certainly not recommended for a new Christian like you would think. Sometimes the "amplifications" are so wrong I just wanted to close this and never open it again. I believe any true student of the Bible will find many errors. I cannot recommend this book.

Come on Amazon!!! We expect better from you!!! Is anybody listening.
I tried two different versions of the audio Bible before reading the reviews of other versions and they all have the same problems. I am so grateful that we have the Bible on audio available, but I believe they could be vastly and easily improved. I think the first issue is that those creating the app doesn't understand how the Bible is read. This version (my fav), is even worse than the last. Some of the things that need correcting were mentoined in many of the reviews I read, so clearly those responsible are not listening. A few tried to give helpful hints, which although appreciated, don't fix the many problems. This is 2019, and with the many excellent resources at Amazon's disposal, these issues should be able to be corrected.
1. The Bible contains books within the whole book.
2. Each book has chapters, and each line is numbered (verses).
3. The entire book is divided into two sections.
4. The Bible is read repeatedly, and not always in the same order. People may want to read just one particular verse.
5. Some people, such as myself, like to have it playing throughout the night while we sleep. We go to sleep listening to it, and we awake listening to it.
6. Each Book and chapter needs to be identified by name of the book and chapter number.
7. Don't try to divide Bible into sections of your choosing " for easier downloading". People don't care how long it takes to download if it's right afterwards, and we don't have to listen to the credits before each section.
If you just had to divide it, you could have divided it into the Old and New Testaments, books of the law, books of poetry, major and minor prophets, the Gospels, or Pauline letters, for example. That way at least, it would be easier to scroll to the place you're looking for.
8. For those of us who do listen while we sleep, it would be so great if it had a feature that you can select so that when you come to the end of the book it loops back to the beginning and doesn't just stop at the end. I know this technology exists because this is what can be done with music--choosing which song you want to listen to within an album, and clicking the loop icon so it repeats.
Not even the Word of Promise version (which has all but the last feature on their CDs), is correctly formatted in Audiobook. Come on Amazon!!! We expect better from you!!!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Bible book names are not listed so you can choose where to play. Am using Alexa to listen so needed to know how many chapters are in the entire BIBLE! Once you find the divisions, it is great to listen to this version. Anyone else have a better way to know where the various books begin and end?

don't have a clue...still can't access it to listen to it
Any additional comments?
the download doesn't work for me...so i don't have a clue, exception to get my money back and just buy a bible and read it...

I had always thought that the Amplified Bible ...
... was all but impossible to read aloud, this recording puts the lie to that idea.
The performance is excellent, but Overall, this recording is all but useless.
As with many of the recordings on Audible, the textual chapters Do Not match Audible's chapters! A source of continual frustration to me when navigating any of Audible recordings!
Made doubly worse by the fact that there is not even a nod of recognition toward the traditional method of referencing scripture, namely: Book, Chapter, & Verse. This audible recording starts at Audible's chapter 1 [Genesis 1] and goes on, unbroken, to audible's chapter 1189 [revelation 22] it is therefore quite impossible to select a particular scriptural verse, one is not even able to have the New Testament or Psalms read alone. Worse still, Audible's chapter do not match Scripture's chapters. So one is not even able to search for a specific scriptural chapter be selecting Audible's chapters one by one.
And if one returns to continue a play back, it is no easy to find out which scriptural book one is listening too.
Fine, if one wishes to listen straight through the whole bible in one continuous play back. But this wil Teach very little scripture; or bring more understanding, which is one of the greatest benefits of reading the Amplified Bible.
So I cannot recommend Audible's Amplified Bible recording. If Audible's chapter names where, too at least, list scripture's Book name & Chapter number. This would make Audible's recording much more useful. If the Verse number were also included, I could & would, wholeheartedly recommend Audible's recording of the Amplified Bible.

Disappointed
This is not the most accessible translation of the Bible. You kind of feel like you are listening to a thesaurus of ancient times rather than one of the most important books of human history. I couldn't get on with the narrator either, he read too quickly and too mechanically for me to gain anything. So, as I said, I'm just disappointed.

thank you
brilliant! thank you for all your hard work for making this possible; could do with a way to list out chapters by their verses.

Well worth trying a more unusual translation!
I listened through the Bible using this book in just over a month using a plan and the x2 speed setting! Beautiful old school reading from a guy with a great voice who knows how to use it. A shame the chapters don’t coincide with the Bible so it takes a bit of Bible-book-order-knowledge to find where you want to be but nothing fatal. Really really enjoyed a breakneck pace through the Bible to better understand God’s character and his plans through history. Well worth a blitz-listen I say! Also good to do it in a translation you may be less familiar with - this makes you ponder the meaning more and feel things reiterated or clarified by the Amplified Translation. Great stuff.

The WORD amplified. A great Bible translation.
Really helps as you have the full meaning of the words rather than the limited English translations.

No Chapter Names
Chapters have no names, just chapter numbers.
Chapter 726, chapter 192 and so on.
This makes this audio bible very hard to navigate.

No Book or Chapter Titles.
Chapters are marked 1 to 1189. So if you want say, John chapter 3, spin the wheel and have a shot at picking the right number. Makes it extremely hard to find a particular book or chapter. The voice is great, but I’ll hardly use this book because of the unfriendly user index.
