Publisher's Summary

November 1911. Lady Emily Hardcastle is celebrating her birthday by seeing a play at the Duke’s Theatre in Bristol with her maid and confidante, the inimitable Flo. Act One is a triumph. Then Act Two opens with a body on stage—a real one. One of the cast has been brutally murdered during the interval.

When other matters get in the way of Inspector Sunderland overseeing the case himself, he asks the ever-resourceful Lady H to keep a watchful eye on the suspects—and his police colleagues. Rustling up some cunning disguises of their own, she and Flo are soon in deep cover among the cast and crew, pulling back the curtain on some shocking secrets and rivalries…

The problem is, everyone seems to have a motive, and everyone seems to have an alibi…In this locked-room mystery in which nothing is as it seems, the amateur sleuths need to put on the performances of their lives if they’re to stand a chance of shining a spotlight on the truth…

Another wonderful installment!

I think this was the best book yet! This is my favorite lil cozy mystery series of all as well. Entertaining and heartwarming all at once. Of course by this point we've all gotten to know and love our dynamic duo quite intimately as well as having a wider cast of friends involved which adds to the fun. The setting of the theater was a nice touch as well. I also really enjoyed the addition of Flo's sister to the mix. Nice stress free entertainment as always. Also I'd be remiss if i didn't give a nod to the wonderful Elizabeth Knowelden for her amazing performance (per usual). She brings the story to life like no other could! Cant wait for the next one!

Another smash hit!

TE Kinsey has written a another absolutely delightful mystery, with our two favorite sleuths: the indomitable Lady H and and her feisty maid/friend, Florence Armstrong. Fans of the series will find many favorite foibles on display, such as Lady H using the wrong name so that Flo has to correct her, as Lady H gives her a dig for falling for her “mistake”. We see a lot of old favorite characters and also get to know Flo’s twin sister. The mystery was cleverly created and well-hidden from the reader. It wasn’t until the end that I could look back at the clues and put them together. All in all, a perfectly wonderful reading/listening experience!! (Kudos again to the reader! She’s brilliant!)

As usual - hugely entertaining

Another excellent presentation by both author and narrator. So many times I laughed like a crazy person while listening….. 😁😁😁😁 especially the line about ‘why would I bark if I had a dog to do it for me?’ (Paraphrasing, of course). That was comedy gold.

Right. So. When’s the next book coming out?

An Act of Foul Play

Another terrific murder mystery with Lady Hardcastel and her maid Florence step in to help the Inspector to sort out the 'lay of the land' as he tied up his current case. As always things are not all they seemed. Read brilliantly again by Elizabeth Knowelden.

Another winning combo of writer and performer

Yet again the combination of Elizabeth Knowelden and TE Kinsey is pure magic.

I think this book and the way Ms Knowelden performs it made it one of my favourite in the series. The introduction of Gwen adds so many comic moments to the story beautifully brought to life. The language is exquisite and overall it just left me wanting more.

All that remains to be said is encore!!

a hard(castle) to follow

Nice to hear Flo's sister getting into the act.
one complaint the audible version doesn't have the author's notes. can this be fixed?
