Publisher's Summary

She never expected to marry....

Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed.

He never expected to fall in love....

From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her. For though Annabel's not the bride he planned for, she's the only woman he desires....

So Adorably Sweet!

This book is such a sweet and tender Highland romance. If you enjoy Cinderella type stories then you will enjoy this one. This book was romantic, funny and because it had a bit of mystery kept my interest throughout. It's really hard not to like this book.

The narrator was wonderful. She did a fantastic job with all the voices and made the listen fast and enjoyable.

This one is too sweet not to give it a listen.

Very Good

The heroine is smart, sassy and funny. She does get into several predicaments. Mary Jane Wells does a good job narrating this story. Although I've never heard anyone say "played" for Plaid. Definitely worth a credit for a fun listen. 😁

Super book and very well read

I really enjoyed this book. Mary Jean Wells did a great job with all the different voices. I will add her to my list of good readers.

Very lighthearted story- 3 1/2 stars overall

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Lynsay Sands is a talented author. I enjoy her lighthearted, humorous work. Today's world is filled with enough strife that it is good to read/listen to stories that put a smile on your face & touch your heart. This story just was not up to her usual talent.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Narrated with more emotion, h/h with stronger personalities, and more humor.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Good voice but not enough emotion; more like reading rather than narrating.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Possibly

Any additional comments?

I look forward to better historical romance from this talented author.

Great Book

I loved this book. Of course I'm a HIghlander lover. I really like the story of the book. I also enjoyed the characters and interaction between them. The story was engaging and kept me entertained. It makes you believe in love at first sight. The reader was very good. Enjoyed listening to her.

GOOD DEFINITELY - BUT COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT

I loved LS's Argeneau vampire books and I love love love a braugh sexy hunky Highlander in a kilt so I preordered this and waited with baited breath and great expectations.

This book was an entertaining, enjoyable, light-hearted fun listen, that had it's moments, however it was all just a bit too 'nice' for my personal taste as I like my Highlanders broody, dark and sexy however Ross was kind, thoughtful and trusting but more of a Prince Charming type. Annabel was sweet, naive, likeable and funny as one minute she is about to be an English Nun then the next minute she's a married woman heading to her husband's castle in Scotland.

There's everything you'd expect from a LS listen - a nice plot with a who, what and why question to ponder over, nice characters, nice H/H but I felt it lacked any sexual tension, awareness or build-up that results in a frantic passion filled chapter or two as desire ignites between them - infact I think this could almost have been a YA listen. The plot seemed to happily meander the listener along but it just didn't raise my blood pressure any (well, maybe that's a good thing tho').?

Narrator did a great job with the many voices required of her.

Worth a credit? If you're looking for a light, enjoyable, easy going listen then Yes you won't be disappointed and for most of us LS's fans it'll be an auto download anyway.

Romance is still ALIVE

I believe in Love at first sight Lynsay Sands brought that with Ross MacKay and Annabel even when they didn't know. Got to love the Scottish Laird.

Sweet and charming!

I enjoyed this audiobook story about a girl who grew up in a convent who is suddenly brought home to take her sister’s place in marrying a Scottish Laird. She has no training to be mistress of the keep and someone keeps trying to kidnap her. The hero is falling in love with his little bride and when her disgraced sister shows up at the keep things get even more complicated. Great storyline and characters. Good narration as well. Overall an entertaining listen!

Enjoyable sweet listen...

This is a sweeter and more simple highlander story. Barely any historical references and the storyline is quite simple. Pretty much the blurb tells exactly what's going to happen, no complexity in characters or situations. Still it was good and I enjoyed it. The hero was wonderful and the heroine was likable. Actually I would suggest this book to a first time highlander romance listener. The narration was good too, nothing spectacular but good enough to add extra emotion to the story. I would listen to the next book in the series.

A nice story, but not a romping Highland yarn.

Any additional comments?
This book is easy listening at its best (you really don't have to pay that much attention to it). Annabel and Ross get along from the start, and don't have a disagreement throughout the entire book. She gets along with his soldiers, his clan, his family... it's all just a bit blah. To liven things up, Annabel and Ross both get whacked over the head a few times by a mysterious attacker, then some older women do too for good measure. Surprisingly, in spite of sustaining several head injuries within just a few days, Annabel does not seem to have any lasting damage. Ross doesn't seem too bothered that his wife keeps getting attacked, mostly when she happens to be naked. He's super-chilled, and nothing really stirs him up- except annoying sisters.

I was surprised when I had only two chapters left of this book, because it felt like the story hadn't yet got going. If you're looking for hot-blooded, passionate highlanders, look elsewhere. This is my first experience of Lynsay Sands, and I'm not sure I'll be seeking out her other titles.

The book is ably read by Mary Jane Wells, who is always a pleasure to listen to. The only problem I had was that she pronounced plaid as "played" rather than "plad". I have noticed this is another book she narrated with a Scotsman in it, but then the word was hardly used and therefore easily ignored. Here it crops up all the time, so was much more distracting.

Worth a one time read

Great start, but come the middle I was board!
The final straw was when the lovely Annabel who’s highlander love was laying in the bed, with no one knowing if he was going to wake( read the book) decided, instead of staying by her one true loves beside and wait for him to hopefully wake , no she decided to go get a pastry and leave the highland hunk to it ... that was too far... ending obvious, yawn fest in the middle, but the start was perfect ,loved the way the lady read the book though she did a good job, could of been a super star classic, but flopped, still worth a listen though

Sweet and funny

I've really started to enjoy Mary Jane Wells as narrator. The story was sweet and funny and at times had me laughing out aloud. However, some lapses of contemporary idioms did jar slightly at what was otherwise an enjoyable listen

Enjoyed the story very much. I liked the narrator too very much. There a very few female narrators I like and Mary Jane Wells is one of them now.

Good romance needed a bit more adventure

The romance was there in the book as was the erotic love scenes. I would have liked just a bit more adventure perhaps? I wasn't big on the narrator as the Scottish accent wasn't done very well. still will read the next one and see what I think after that.

A delightful story

Being a historical? novel, I find is a refreshing change from the modern stories where the male is well endowed and the female loves being slapped and pounded.
This story had some funny moments and caused me to laugh, especially how the Laird works around a bedding ceremony when it falls on a Wednesday.😀

Amazing story

I loved this story and it's twists and turns.
Now whilst loving this audiobook I do with the lovely lady reading this had the true Scottish brogue. But then again for the wee English lass the story was about it would have been a little hard.
Enjoyable and keeps you enthralled. Looking forward to more.
