Smarmy personals ads. Daring declarations of love. Freelance writer Jaine Austen has penned them all. But no one needs her help more than geeky, gawky Howard Murdoch. His request is simple enough: a letter proclaiming his undying love for Stacy Lawrence, a gorgeous aerobics instructor. The fact that he's never actually met the woman gives Jaine pause - yet she soon overcomes her misgivings, and the unlikely Romeo lands a date! But his triumph is short-lived. On Valentine's Day, Howard finds Stacy bludgeoned to death with a Thigh Master - and is quickly named the prime suspect.

Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Can you say dumbed down to the point of stupid. Why would a progressive female of any era portray herself as really slow on the up take and clueless when looking into murder. I could not relate and will not continue with the series.

Stupid, preposterous plot, insufferable narrator
I have listened to a lot of mysteries and this one was insufferable as well as predictable. The main characters were flat and the plot, quite honestly, was rather stupid. The narrator seemed as bored with the story as I was.

Will definitely look out for the next book in the series
