Publisher's Summary

After a violent home invasion in the remote wilds of Glen Coe leaves a family of four dead, DCI Jack Logan and his team are brought in to lead the manhunt.

But, when one of the victims is revealed to be one half of legendary 1980s Glasgow-based comedy double act, Neeps & Tatties, Logan is forced to leave the Highlands and head back to his old stomping ground.

He may have spent his career dealing with the worst humanity has to offer, but to find out who killed Archie Tatties and his family, Logan will have to confront his most terrifying challenge yet - the seedy world of Scottish light entertainment.

An Isolated Incident is the eleventh book in JD Kirk’s internationally best-selling DCI Logan crime-fiction series. Perfect for fans of Chris Brookmyre, Stuart Macbride, and Alex Smith.

Ah. A new JD Kirk, perfect, perfect. perfect to launch summer '21. I
love the growth of the characters
from the previous books in the series.
Glasgow- not so much- but the totality of this book has me hooked
more than ever. Guess I'm a paper/
audio soap opera groupie.
These are stand alone mysteries. If you are just joining us on the Kirk Fan Club bus you have the rare pleasure of picking up all the previous books.

Complex and satisfying

The DCI Logan series is a "must buy" for me---both book and audio. This latest did not disappoint. A gruesome and tragic set of circumstances sets Logan on the road to Glasgow, his old stomping grounds, with DC Tyler Niesh in tow. Their moments together are absolutely golden, brought to life by the superlative narration of Angus King. Old frenemies are encountered along the way, and Bob Hoon is sprinkled over it like pepper on a serving of good ol' neeps and tatties, as the team solves the case.

I have love the whole DCI Logan series. They are all good mysteries with humor thrown in. My only complaint is that I have read all the available ones. I need a new DCI Logan!

Convoluted murder mystery will keep you riveted!

JD Kirk is rapidly becoming one of my very favorite authors. I love this series with the quirky officers of the Scottish police under DCI Jack Logan. Jack is a big hulking figure who has all the finesse of a bulldozer at times and a dogged commitment to solve his cases. This mystery is very convoluted with lots of suspects and issues that are presented to the reader at just the right pace to keep you riveted to the book and unable to put it down until the end. The final solution is clever, complicated and intelligent. I especially love the snappy dialog and humor between the officers, especially the often mistaken and ridiculed Tyler who is facing cancer surgery and in complete denial. The case revolves around an old Scottish slapstick comedy team of Neaps and Tatties and the television production. But then other darker layers emerge such as porn movies, drag queens, lost babies and murder. You will love every minute of this and all the books in the series.

Almost Returned This One

I’ve now listened to all of this authors books - enjoyed every one - until this one.

I won’t spoil it for you guys - but there is a suspect/person of interest or perhaps only a source of information in the first 25% of the book. The person is crass and overly garish and perhaps was added to the book for a bit of color - but after the 2nd or 3rd separate interview with this person - I nearly sent the book back. Absolutely awful to listen to.

THEN it turns out the person had nothing to do with anything, and then for the rest of the book was never mentioned again. So, I did finish the book - but couldn’t give it higher marks because that just left a bad taste in my mouth and I found myself dreading the character coming back into the story.

Great author but almost ruined this book - for me.

Love this series!!

I absolutely love the DCI Logan series. JD Kirk never disappoints. Good mysteries, with twists and page turning anticipation. Characters are unique with each their own personalities, lots of humor, and life happening events, just an all out great read!! Angus King brings all these wonderful people alive with his narration.

Worth the wait, as usual!!

“Shogon”— Shona and Logan— will prevail !! Romance aside, Logan and the team do not disappoint and Mr. King’s narration stays spot on! I totally love this series and can not wait for the next.
All can stand alone on their own merits— the stories are dramatic enough, tense enough, funny and stick to procedural well— but I would recommend reading them in order. The characters are well thought out and interesting. Does not disappoint.!

Another Great One!

I can always count on the Logan series to be a wicked fun ride. I enjoy all the colorful characters and yes the creative cussing...if it offends you then you aren't willing to the harsh reality of real people & life. Me, I laugh at its creativity. Always a riveting crime storyline, I can't wait for the next one.

My favorite international crime series

JD Kirk writes about rather dark crimes- but the character development is so good, the humor and sarcasm so on point - that the stories are thoroughly enjoyable. Paired with excellent narration by angus king, these stories always deliver. Already looking forward to the next.

Why hasn’t this been developed into a TV series?

I love the manner in which these characters have been developed during the series of books, a wonderful balance of suspense and humour. Seems absolutely right for a TV series!

Another triumph

This series just gets better and better. Am now familiar with the characters of this police team. I still laugh out loud at some of the conversations. The narration is excellent and the writer has such an eye for the detail of ordinary life (and murder)!. Enjoying the growing relationship between Logan and Siobhan. I just love all of it

Appalling

This was the first of this book series I had listened to and while the storyline appeared to be good, the fact that virtually every other word was foul language and swearing, totally put me off from listening any further. I have no objection to swearing in context, but this was ridiculous. I have always been told that most people swear because they are too lazy to find a more appropriate word, so the author is depicted in a very poor light. I thought it would be more like the DCI Gillard books by Nick Louth which I really enjoyed, but it was a total waste of money.

Cannot stop listening

Once you start the Jack Logan series you will not be able to stop.
All of the novels in the crime series are inter-linked with characters that you will get to love and relate to.
The story lines are clever and thought provoking. Be prepared for hours (and days) of being taken into a world of solving crimes!!
An Isolated Incident is the 11th in the series that just get better and better.
What will I do when I have read the 12th and last? I’m hoping that JD Kirk keeps writing?

excellent

Each DCI Logan somehow manages to be better than its predecessor, which is quite an achievement as they've all been tremendous. Angus King's narration the icing on the cake. I know where my next credit is going 👍

More excellent writing!

It has taken me until the 11th book to review JD Kirk, because as I finished other ones, another volume beckoned. As volume 12 is not yet written (hurry up, JD Kirk), thus…
In this novel we meet the assorted team members dealing with a hideous crime, personal crises and a montage of nasties from the criminal underworld. The banter is as wonderful as ever, the cups of tea frequent as demanded, and the food as bad as ever, although lunch at the Pig bar hits new lows with descriptions that stay long after the book is finished.
Recommended.
Oh, and the Scottish words are amazing. Bad weather is ‘dreek’. Glorious. Oh, and read the other ten books.

Love this

I love this series. It’s actually quite strange with the characters so funny at times. The detectives are quite loud and I do laugh a lot. Angus King has been doing this series for ever so he knows the characters well.
Want another one soon.

Addicted

The development of characters and relationships in this series has me addicted. The job interview for Hoon had me laughing until I cried. The narrator is absolutely fantastic and nails all the characters each and every time. The storyline is solid, I definitely didn’t pick the killer until the end, but I admit I am listening more for what is happening with each character, the murder plot is now Secondary for me.

Terrible!

This series is usually excellent but this book really should not have been published. All the usual witty dialogue has been replaced by predictable cliche. The storyline is plodding and thin. Angus King puts in a brilliant effort trying to bring it alive but to no avail.
