Publisher's Summary

Richard Brockwell, the younger son of Ivy Hill's most prominent family, hasn't been home for Christmas in years. He prefers to live in the London townhouse, far away from Brockwell Court, the old family secret that haunts him, and the shadows of his past mistakes. But then his mother threatens to stop funding his carefree life - unless he comes home for Christmas. Out of options, he sets out for Ivy Hill, planning to be back on a coach bound for London and his unencumbered bachelor life as soon as the festivities are over.

But Christmas in the country presents unforeseen surprises, including encounters with an orphaned apprentice, the first love he disappointed years ago, and Arabella Awdry, a young lady who is far more appealing than he recalled...and determined to have nothing to do with him.

Will Christmastime in Ivy Hill, with its village charm, kissing boughs, joyous songs, and divine hope, work its magic in his heart...and hers as well?

An Ivy Hill Christmas

I understand this book follows a series of stories by Julie Klassen, but not having read them, I can say this stood on its own very nicely.

A story of redemption and change of heart and character are always welcome, especially at Christmas. This story is a pleasant addition to that tradition.

There were a few times I felt the reader’s voice gave the character of Richard’s words a bit too much of a rakish tone...but in listening and not actually reading it myself, it’s her choice to interpret it thus.

I’m sure fans of the Ivy Hill series and Julie Klassen books will love this and for those new to her books, it’s a nice place to start this holiday season.

Beautiful Christmas Novel

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The characters are believable and delightful. I only wish the ending had been at least a few paragraphs longer. However, it’s better to wish a novel were longer than to wish it would finally end already. This novel is truly enjoyable.

A lovely book about self forgiveness

I enjoyed this delightful book. It was the last of Julie's wonderful books for me (I listened to 16 in a row) and so I was already familiar with all her wonderful characters which are always a treat. These people and their stories are so rich, relaxing, comical, creative, colorful and insightful . You are in for a treat. I want a Wally doggie for my own!!🥰

excellent!

the author's subtle character development and metamorphosis is masterful. the reader was a little bit breathy like Marilyn Monroe in some places which seemed affected. I've heard her as a reader before with a voice lively and very effective so it is overlooked. beautifully written all in all and worth the wait of this latest publication

Perfect Christmas Read

I liked this a lot! It was my first read by this author, so I didn't know what to expect. To be honest, I also went into it without having read the synopsis again since marking it as to-read a couple month ago, so I doubly didn't know what to expect. XD It was extremely sweet and charming. Richard and Arabella won me over immediately and the story kept me engaged throughout. Not with action, adventure, or even much drama, but with learning about each character and their pasts and wanting to see who they became. I really enjoyed the setting a lot with it being in (I think) Regency era England at Christmas time. I also liked that the story wasn't 100% focused on the romance. That was a major element, yes, but Richard was also trying to help a little boy who was being treated badly by the man he was working for and I liked seeing that side of him.

Overall, this was a perfect Christmas read (or listen, since I listened to it on audio) and I'd recommend it to lovers of historical fiction and Christmas stories.

Inspiration

I love to read historical regency romance novels especially based on the Christmas season. I loved this book because in telling the story, it remained focused on the the spirit of Christmas and the reason for the season. Well done!

Fabulous Character Arc!

Story: 5 stars

Julie Klassen did it again! Her main character is so unlikable at first that I almost didn’t want to continue with the book! But I trusted her and her way of writing character arcs and it paid off! I loved this book and loved the main character!

Other characters from other Ivy Hill novels are in this book and that makes it satisfying, as well. We get to see little glimpses into their new lives.

Narration: 5 stars

Wonderfully read and acted by Ms. Jasicki! She’s a wonderful voice actress and does a number of distinct voices which adds depth to the narration. She’s definitely a go-to narrator for me :-)

Predictable but charming

This was an easy listen for when you are working or otherwise can’t give 100% attention. I liken the book to a Hallmark Christmas movie - predictable but addictive, the comfort food of books.

Good historical inspirational Christmas tale

This story follows Richard Brockwell who unwillingly returns home to spend Christmas at Ivy Hill, and Arabella who knows Richard’s reputation and wants to live a life of good works rather than marry.

I loved the old Christmas and winter feel of this historical romance. Both the main characters were strong willed, with both good and bad qualities. In some ways it is a redemption plot and I particularly appreciated all the spiritual content.

There are three previous books in this series — Tales from Ivy Hill. I haven’t read any of them but it didn’t matter. I still understood all the story and connected with the main characters. I did get the impression that some of the side characters were probably main characters in previous books. I think you would get even more enjoyment from the story if you knew who they were.

The romance was sweet and not cheesy. I enjoy the twelve days of Christmas as a backdrop, especially in a historical novel.

I listened to the audio book on 2.2X speed. It was clear and easy to understand. I liked the narrator’s voice.

This was the first time I’ve read a book by Julie Klassen. I enjoyed her writing style and the village feel coming from lots of different side characters. I may pick up the previous books in the series in the future.
