LOVED IT !!!!!!
Any additional comments?
I am glad I did not go by the few negative reviews. It was a wonderful book and the narrator did a great job, though I was shocked they did not have him redo the scene in the first chapter where he pauses to burp. Lol. It was a story about a woman who gets forced to marry her father’s stepson. Since she is illegitimate and he is actually considered the heir to the dukedom, she gets forced by her father into the marriage so that his true bloodline continues. They initially both resist the marriage and are quite rude to one another, however, eventually fall in love. Definitely purchase this book.

Not One Of Jo Beverly's Best
I usually enjoy Jo Beverly's books but Unwilling Bride had too much antagonism between the couple for too long- 2/3's of the book. I enjoy Romance novels as a pleasant escape from reality. Lucien's violent actions/feelings toward Beth and her fear of him were pretty tiresome after a while. I can't believe the author wrote into a romance novel that he backhanded her. Geez, if I wanted to read about domestic violence I would have bought a newspaper. Also, I don't particularly care for books in which the heroine is plain and the hero is handsome. As for the narrator sometimes he sounded like he was slurping. I would not recommend this book to anyone and I'm sorry I bought it.

Promising premise turns into standard fare...
I loved the premise of the book. Hard working teacher picked to marry a duke's son because she was blood related to the duke and his son wasn't. I'd never come across this scenario.
I loved that duke's marriage was ice cold until she entered their family allowing the older couple to find each other again.
I loved that she was smart, articulate, and well educated. He was too.
I enjoyed the opening sections of this book UNTIL out of fear she impulsively lied to him causing mistrust and anger. It took a long time for them to make it to altar. It took a longer time for them to overcome her lie. When he hit her, that crossed a line for me. She recovered. I didn't.

Romance? The loss of the genre may necessitate the canceling of my account.
Attention all “romance” writers!!! Women do not read romance to hear a man tell a woman he would rather be with another woman. Women don’t read romance to witness scenarios in which men physically abuse women. Women don’t read romance to hear tales of sexual violence. Why am I having to explain this? This “romance” is steeped in all the ugliness from which women seek respite when they seek out romance. The “romance” genre is getting darker, uglier. I could have returned the book, but I want to be heard in this. Stop with the ugliness. We are in a global pandemic. We’re up to our necks in bleakness. Shine a light or stop wasting my time.

I wanted to throttle the heroine
Would you try another book from Jo Beverley and/or Simon Prebble?
I love Simon Prebble, not so Jo Beverley
Would you recommend An Unwilling Bride to your friends? Why or why not?
The author took forever to reconcile the couple. The scaredy cat heroine was well educated, but her ignorance about male-female relationships was ridiculously unrealistic and frustrating. Not a terribly sympathetic heroine. The hero was appealing but not particularly well defined.
Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?
The Duchess
Was An Unwilling Bride worth the listening time?
Yes, grudgingly.
Any additional comments?
I can't say enough about Simon Prebble's talent. He does a consistently fantastic job with historical novels. A wonderful narrator. I look for books he narrates.

a favorite of mine
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes, it's a regency romance. Great characters portayed well. Quite a bit of the lifestyle of the nobility actually mentioning duties and personal interactions of period of the society of the time, while still having dynamic interactions of the time. I like both the hero and heroine and the results of period social oncerns.
Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?
all of them
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
it made me laugh and have anxiety for the safety of the characters.
Any additional comments?
It is ,of course, period fiction. In real life of the times things wouldn't have happened, but it is an interesting story. Quite an enjoyable tangle. Well done.

3 A’s Action Adventure Ardor
Loved the story line the Duke wanted to continue the line with his child not the son he had raised as his. So a forced marriage was arranged. But our couple slowly fell in love Ahh
There was a villain. I like villains they make the story more interesting. Heat a 3 but the narrator was a 5 star. I’ve read the other books and it was nice to catch up with old friends who reappeared in this one. Now on to the next in the series

Terrible book
I couldn’t stand this book and ended up skipping sections. I can’t stand it when a Reuter attempts to make a female seem strong- willed and yet give in to everything. Beth should have fought harder and not have given in. Lucian was a horror and wife neater- terrible character. Parents were also disappointing and not sensitive to the issues. Why can’t someone write a book with strong characters that make sense!
