The sheer importance of Sumerian culture in regards to world culture as a whole is impossible to overstate. This civilization is single-handedly responsible for some of the most major innovations in nearly every field relevant to maintaining a civilized society - this includes religion, lawmaking, architecture, schooling, art, literature, and even entertainment. Naturally, most of what we see as negative aspects of society were established in ancient Sumer as well. There wasn’t an aspect of Sumerian life that wasn’t plagued with corruption or devastation of one form or another.

A Very Interesting Read for history lovers.
The Bible tells the story of Israel's conquest of the land of Canaan, but what do you know about the Canaanites? The Bible
is only one source among many used to discover who these people were. This book reveals many things about them I did
not realize. Egypt was more involved with them than I realized. The Canaanites were a relatively disorganized bunch who
fought among themselves as much as they did others.

Not Worthwhile
This title is a compilation of three of Captivating History's titles. I thought I'd try this compilation out to broaden my knowledge of these ancient civilizations. Unfortunately, I feel like I've been listening to someone's poorly-written high school term paper. I never felt like the author's had any grasp of the subject matter, let alone were presenting it in a "captivating" way. You could learn more in less time from each civilization's Wikipedia page. The narration is reasonably enthusiastic and engaging, but is riddled with horrible mispronunciations (e.g. Cilician pronounced as to sound like "silicon".)

Precision of language is an issue. i.e. "Bastions"
It is a nice introduction, but it could use refinement. The language when describing specific points is too vague for a true understanding of the subject.
But, overall very, very interesting. It provides a good elementary introduction to what is a fascinating epoch of human history.
The History of the Hittites needs a lot of work. The authors and editors need to do more research and not rely so heavily on Egyptian records which we know to be greatly exaggerated for propaganda purposes.

Malinformed, mispronounced and sophomoric
This could be a nice 8th-grade round-up of ancient Levant geopolitics and societies, but the readers made listening painful and the authors should be encouraged to cite sources, especially when mischaracterizing scripture. Readers stalling at page breaks and commas, misusing travesty in place of tragedy, and the readers and authors generally not studying history before trying to write and read it are just some issues with this text. The authors go far out of their way to explain they are not using religious books as reference material, and then opine for pages on sick and perverse imaginations as to what scripture says, between the lines. Poor form. Poor, hack-ridden form. You all really need editors who don’t like you so much as it appears that your moms provided critical feedback for you. Humanists will particularly enjoy this “history” book.

Excellent book.
Although it sacrifices the depth for the sake of the brevity (but depending on its length 7 hrs and 58 mins), gives a perfectly balanced account of who were the Canaanites, where and how they lived, what they did, for how many years, and so on. In brief, Canaanites were much more than I thought in terms of commerce, language and writing.
