Story
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

OhMy! My Face Hurts from Laughter!
This along with all the other St. Mary’s books is absolutely wonderful! It’s full of both actual history and altered history. But the dialog is so spot on hilarious that my face hurts from laughter.
I happened to be listening to this while out shopping. That may not have been the best idea since I was of course wearing earbuds. The people out shopping that day kept giving me the strangest looks as I continued to burst out laughing as they passed by! I tried to apologize and show them my earbuds and tell them it was an audiobook but they did not care to hear that. So... oh well. I enjoyed it!!!

A disappointment
This is a short story from Taylor’s ongoing time travel series. A very short story. Listening time came in just under 2 hours. Of the two hours, possibly 30 minutes held new material. I didn’t object when the author rehashed background from previous books in her preface, but when characters in the story reiterate exactly the same material, this was obviously padding to meet a required word count.
The actual story about an illicit ‘jump’ to the first human Mars landing was mildly entertaining. However, it suffered from the very tired, overused, body fluid jokes. And, it didn’t help that the author took the narrative voice away from Maxwell. Overall, a disappointment.

My Favorite St. Mary's Short!
This is by far my favorite St. Mary's Short! I love the Time Police tie-in / intro to the Time Police as the Time Police series brought me to St. Mary's. I preferred the part of the story that is not told as a story within a story. More of this please!

Better than Battersea Barricades
I don't care for the ones where the story is mostly an interview rather than deep point of view action. We do get part of this story as actual action, so it's better than Barricades was.

Different - yes, but still hilarious.
Well, not completely different. The irrepressible irreverent St Mary's humor is there. And lots of it. I also have a new understanding for the Time Police and their headaches in keeping the unruly St Mary's antics in check. :-) A light read. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Not to be missed if you like the St Mary's series.

Quirky characters in abundance
Hilarious as always. Just loved the new zany character of Director Pinkerton, she seemed quite normal ( and very brave) in the last book she was in but now she's as mad as the rest of them. Its the way she makes astonishing statements as matter of fact. I'd like to hear more of this lady. She's obviously still as brave to stand up to the time police, who in this book merit quite a lot of sympathy.

Another large helping of St Mary's craziness
If there's anything you can always rely on when the St Mary's gang are involved it's that disaster and comical antics are never far away. This particular short story was very much in the same vein as the rest of the series but told from a slightly different perspective in which the events are being retold after the fact in a heated discussion between the heads of the Time Police and that of St Mary's.
Try not to be eating or drinking anything that you're likely to choke on as you read these stories as there's a lot of comical mishaps involved. I'm a big fan of this book series and they always make me smile.
Keep 'em coming, Jodi. Loved the performance by Zara, too. She brings the story and the characters to life. Looking forward to the next one already.

This is such a funny story, St Mary's trip to Mars. It is great to have some of the minor characters feature in a story of their own, with Max Peterson having more minor rolls.. As always the dialogue is smart and funny, the situation suitably insane and the story wonderful fun. The narration as always is great.
