Publisher's Summary
The supervillains of DESTRON have conquered the country, The Big Axe has been imprisoned, and the heroes of the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection have been reduced to hiding behind a force field surrounding New York City.
And if that's not enough, Andrea Vernon is pregnant. With a Little Axe.
But Andrea’s not one to sit on the sidelines. She has to make a plan to save the country, rescue her boyfriend, and figure out what exactly people do with babies. And a whole new slate of enemies is coming for CUP, led by the newly installed dictator of America, Dr. Robotfury, and his ingenious mecha-administrative assistant who bears a rather frightening resemblance to Andrea.
It’s a lot to wrap up before you go on maternity leave.

I left there a long time ago, with my skin and sanity barely intact. Now I make my living in the sunlit streets of London. An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

Story
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Maybe not Top Dog, but Pretty Good Dog
I'm not going to lie, I was 'happier than a retired mule' when I saw there was a new Andrea Vernon book out ... and it did not disappoint. Pretty much all of my favorite characters from the previous two books were back, and we also got to meet the Executive Team and look in on Ms. O's southern roots.
I thought the story line in the previous book was probably a bit better than this one, but it was still interesting enough to hold a listener's attention. The characters stayed true to their personalities, Andrea's arch-nemesis was delightfully nuanced, and I enjoyed the way the author threw in fun references to other books and authors. There is a stream-of-consciousness section where AV voices her thoughts about her pregnancy and motherhood that was spot-on perfect, as well.
As always, Bahni Turpin's narration was superlative. She was flawless with recreating the same voices from the previous installments, creating new ones for the new characters, and giving another magnificent performance rather than just a reading.
I'm not sure if Mr. Kane plans to write more in this universe, since he left the story closed enough to satisfy but open enough he could write more, but if he does I will definitely continue reading/listening. This is just straight up FUN entertainment and I give it two (weird hands) thumbs way up!

SPOILER ALERT!!!
I love the quirkyiness of these stories. I liked this one, except for the loss of one of the best characters (TBA) and and indication that this is the end of AV at C.U.P. I have listened to the other two Andrea Vernon books three times. There was not enough Ms. O and Inspector Well Actually in this one for a triple read/listen. I will probably listen to the other two again instead. This IS great entertainment! I am so very grateful to Bahni Turpin for reprising her roles!!!

Andrea Vernon is BACK!!!!! 5 is not enough stars!!
The Andrea Vernon series is in my top 3 faves. I have waited for this book for almost 2 years. It was so good and entertaining and hilarious. It had me laughing out loud to the point that people were looking at me funny Lol. I'm sad that I finished it already but I will definitely be listening to it again and again. I'm praying that Alexander C. Kane will find a way to keep the series going. And with Bahni Turpin is so amazing and the perfect narrator for this series.

Bad political writting ruined immersion
The book got too political which ruined immersion for me and made every little thing colored by the politics. Politics can be part of a story, but they were not well crafted in this one. This turned it from a fun read to a analytical read. I read for fun and if a book fails in that then it gets a bad raiting.

Hilarious Series
I love this series. I laugh and generally just feel good while listening to it. This last book was just as full of unexpected twists and turns. I truly cannot determine ahead of time how the characters are going to get themselves out of a fix, nor where the author is going to take us all next. However, I still feel mostly safe from trauma as it is a story where the good guys win.
The narrator does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. When Glare yells, "GLARE!," so does the narrator without holding back. I LOVE Ms. O, both her voice and her character.
I only wish there were more stories to come, but it seemed like this was meant to be the last one.

Love it
Seriously - this series is one of the freshest and funniest out there. Hilarious and consistently entertaining. And I love the narrator, Bahni Turpin. Her voice work is fantastic and only adds to the humor. Im walking around the house shouting Glaaaare! at random intervals. Listen to the first book to understand that reference. It will appear again.
