Good Listen
Alafair Burke has a place in my library of must listen to authors. This is my first chance to get one of her books and I am delighted I did. Well written and great story. It flowed well and kept my interested the entire time.
While I think the story line is good, I think the character developement is lacking. Perhaps she is saving that for later books. Most characters were very shallow in revealing much about themselves to the listener, except for Hatcher. I think it would have been interesting to have more background on the killer. More about why he/she is doing what they are doing. This made it difficult to really empathize with them. Alafair Burke is an author to watch as time goes on. I can see nothing but better and better writings. This is only her 3rd book. She is just getting her feet wet.

A Good Story, But.....
I usually wait for customer reviews but jumped on this one based on an published review by another author. It has a good story line but I didn't think the writing was all that great and the narration definitely turned me off. I thought that the female narrator way overused a coquettish tone with a lot of the dialogue and it just didn't fit. I'd pass on this one.

Southern Accent?
I'm only halfway through the book so far. The story line is ok, but the narrator uses a slight southern accent for several characters. The story takes place in New York City and the characters are police officers. Ummm....what? The characters that are portrayed from Indiana have no accents. It is a bit annoying to listen to.

It's okay to read but don't listen to it.....
The story is ok as entertainment, not great but a nice distraction. I won't go out of my way to track down another Ellie Hatcher novel but I will read one if nothing else is available. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it myself. This reader mispronounces many names. Olathe Kansas, Cartier watch, and Jake Gyllenhaal aren't everyday names but they are common enough that she could have found out the correct pronunciation. The voice she uses for Ellie Hatcher's partner is especially annoying. He's a black dectective from Brooklyn New York and she makes him sound like a white cowboy from Oklahoma. I definitely won't listen to another book with Eliza Foss as the narrator.

Angel's Tip
This is my second Alafair Burke book about Ellie Hatcher, I enjoyed the building of the suspense and the usual police banter and the new partner. What was a turn off for me was the story was about a serial killer as was her first book. I am so tired of stories about serial killers. The reader was adequate. I will read another Burke but only if it not about a serial killer.

Do not waste your time or money
This was a poor listen. The narration was cloying and melodramatic. The novel was poor. The characters were not believable. The plot was contrived. The ending was silly. "Angel's Tip" was a disappointment.

predictable
I don't know...maybe I've read too many mysteries. Quit listening about halfway through and went to the end...just to see if I was right. Perhaps it was the narrator; she just didn't do it for me. Narrator is soooo important; I don't think this is the right person to make these characters come alive. Will Patton makes the James Lee Burke books really click...I choose to listen to those just because Patton is so phenomenal. This series could use a narrator like that.

Great characters and story develops quickly
This book held my interest non stop, the characters are well defined and drawn. The story moves quickly, never a rehashing of the details. From start to finish held my attention. While I had suspicions that I knew who the villain was about half way through, there was still enough doubt to keep me guessing.
I definitely will be listening to more work from Alafair Burke!

Great new author
I listen to every Patterson, Cornwell, and Sanford book released and this storyline ranks right up there with the best, even better than some "James Patterson" collaborations. I found myself hesitating to go in to work to finish another chapter or two. I don't understand the criticism of the reader, it flowed well and Never bogged down. I now have another author to be on the lookout for her next release.
