Story
Are demons real? Are they red creatures with goatees holding pitchforks and sitting on people's shoulders while whispering bad things? Did a third of the angels really rebel with Satan? Are demons and "principalities and powers" just terms for the same entities, or are they different members of the kingdom of darkness? Is the world a chaotic mess because of what happened in Eden, or is there more to the story of evil? In Demons, Michael Heiser debunks popular presuppositions about the very real powers of darkness.

Whereas most students of the Bible have long held that some form of humanism or universalist religion would catapult the Antichrist to world power, Mideast Beast: The Scriptural Case for an Islamic Antichrist systematically proves from that the long awaited system of the Antichrist is even now before us and knocking at our door.

Story
Walton and Walton offer in The Lost World of the Torah a restorative vision of the ancient genre of instruction for wisdom that makes up a significant portion of the Old Testament. In the ancient Near East, order was achieved through the wisdom of those who governed society. The objective of torah was to teach the Israelites to be wise about the kind of order needed to receive the blessings of God's favor and presence within the context of the covenant. Here listeners will find fresh insight on this fundamental genre of the Old Testament canon.

Story
In our modern age the biblical Genesis flood account has been probed and analyzed for answers to scientific, apologetic, and historical questions. It is a text that has called forth flood geology, fueled searches for remnants of the ark on Mount Ararat, and inspired a full-size replica of Noah's ark in a biblical theme park. Some claim that the very veracity of Scripture hinges on a particular reading of the flood narrative. But do we understand what we are reading? Longman and Walton urge us to ask, what might the biblical author have been saying to his ancient audience?

Publisher's Summary
What does the Bible really tell us about the heavenly host?
Everyone knows that angels have wings, usually carry harps, and that each of us has our own personal guardian angel, right? We all have some preconceptions about angels from movies, television shows, and other media, but you might be surprised to know that a lot of those notions aren't based on anything from the Bible. If you read Luke 1:26–38 and imagine the angel Gabriel standing before Mary with neatly folded white wings, you're not getting that picture from anything the Bible itself says.
What the Bible really says about angels is overlooked or filtered through popular myths. This book was written to help change that. It's a book about the loyal members of God's heavenly host, and while most people associate them with the word "angel," that's just one of many terms the Bible uses for supernatural beings.
In The Unseen Realm, Michael Heiser opened the eyes of thousands to seeing the Bible through the supernatural worldview of the ancient world it was written in. In his latest book, Angels, Dr. Heiser reveals what the Bible really says about God's supernatural servants. Heiser focuses on loyal, holy heavenly beings because the Bible has a lot more to say about them than most people suspect. Most people presume all there is to know about angels is what has been passed on in Christian tradition, but in reality, that tradition is quite incomplete and often inaccurate.
Angels is not guided by traditions, stories, speculations, or myths about angels. Heiser's study is grounded in the terms the Bible itself uses to describe members of God's heavenly host; he examines the terms in their biblical context while drawing on insights from the wider context of the ancient Near Eastern world.
The Bible's view on heavenly beings begins with Old Testament terms but then moves into literature from the Second Temple period? Jewish writings from around the fifth century BC to the first century AD. This literature from the time between the Old Testament and the New Testament influenced the New Testament writers in significant ways. With that important background established, the book focuses on what the New Testament tells us about God's holy ones. Finally, the book reflects on common misconceptions about angels and addresses why the topic is still important and relevant for Christians today.

Excellent Content from Heiser, Painful Narration
I originally bought the audiobook because I was excited to listen to Heiser's latest published effort. He always brings a beautifully clear and thorough explanation to things, and he sticks rigidly to the Bible's own text. So please understand that, in this review, I have nothing to criticize regarding the content of the book.
The narration of this one is regrettable, and that's my attempt to stay polite. The word "god" appears in this book many times, for obvious reasons, and the narrator almost invariably over-enunciates the word into two syllables with an arrogant-sounding drawl on the end. Yes, I can give you such a specific description because it happens over and over and over again. The narration in general sounds like someone reading slowly from text he does not understand--or that he isn't paying attention to. There is no inflection. There is no attempt to add rhythm or tone to the obvious humor from the author. There is no feeling of any kind whatsoever in the reading, and if not for the aforementioned tic with the word "god," one might assume it's being read by a male version of Siri or some other kind of robotic text-to-voice generator.
Skip the audiobook for this one. Get a reading copy. The narration utterly ruined this for me. I cannot sit with it for more than 10 minutes or so. It's painful and it's such a lifeless drone that I often found myself in the position of having to admit I needed to listen to portions over again because I hadn't really understood what he just read out to me. Distracting. Painfully bad.
I am a huge lover of Heiser's work. I love listening to Heiser and reading from Heiser. I was excited about the release of this book and waited eagerly for it. Even with all of that predisposition to love the Angels audiobook and enjoy it, I literally could not listen to it. Couldn't do it.
These things are subjective, of course, so all I'm suggesting is: Listen to the sample--the entire sample--before you decide whether or not to get this one.

Everything You Could Possibly Want to Know
This is a college course on Angels and very well done. Unfortunately, I am 73 years old and my brain does not compute like it did when I was 20, or 30, or 40, or 50 or 60 and I can appreciate the value of this Audio Book for someone whose brain will remember what it hears, buy mine will not. Enjoy! I'm glad my angles are there and understand my dilemma. I'm also glad that Audible will let me trade it in for something my brain can process. If your brain is functioning at optimum levels, buy the book. You will enjoy it.

Great information, aweful narration.
Dr. Heiser book is packed full of great information about the (good) heavenly beings most commonly known as Angels. He goes to great deeps in his research to present facts, disprove misconceptions, and discuss therories of what might be. However the narrator's performance was at best bland, and at some points (almost) painfully distracting.

Scholarly work, not as good as Unseen Realm
Scholarly work, not as easy to follow or stay engaged in the audiobook format. Was a bit boring given the topic in my opinion. Does draw quite a bit (maybe 25%?) from second Temple period, intertestamental, and apocryphal sources. These are interesting but I would rather hang my hat on the Biblical witness. I do like how they were broken up chronologically, so I know what part comes from what, and how much weight to give it. I just finished a different book that put both the Bible and all these other sources side by side interspersing them within a single narration. No! I would prefer that, rather than looking at the Old Testament, then the Intertestamental Period, then the New Testament, that it was laid out like a systematic angelology. The order it was given to us in history is not important to me, so learning it that was also an “eh” factor. First time studying this topic at this level. I think he does provide a good overview of different opinions on different things. Does not read at all like a novel or really capture the exciting aspects of angels though. Ok book, but I recommend Unseen Realm over this one if you haven’t read it. I also give kudos to the reader. He was a ninja when it came to accurately pronouncing the Hebrew and Greek! I don’t think anyone I’ve heard has done as good a job. The only thing was that he didn’t really make the text come “alive” but then again that may have just been the scholarly format of the book responsible for that.

Engaging look at angels
For me this was a good book and one that made me think about the topic of angels and how they are presented in scripture. Of course I didn't agree with everything in this audio book but there was also a lot that I did agree with. A lot of it, as with any work by man, was invariably the authors belief and understanding as opposed to another's, not withstanding the coherency of his argue was such that it dragged your mind into thinking about what is being said, for that I rate it 4 stars. The narrator was pretty good as well, he wasn't boring and was easy to follow and listen to, all in all this is a book I'd recommend.
