It's 2116, and Bernard Marx and Helmholtz Watson are token rebels in an irretrievably corrupted society where promiscuity is the norm, eugenics a respectable science, and morality turned upside down. There is no poverty, crime or sickness - but no creativity, art or culture either. Human beings are merely docile citizens: divided into castes, brainwashed and controlled by the state and dependent on the drug soma for superficial gratification.

The CBS Radio Workshop was an experimental series of productions, subtitled "radio's distinguished series to man's imagination" that ran between 27 January 1956 and 22 September 1957. The premiere production was Brave New World, narrated by Huxley himself, with a complicated sound-effects score that evidently took a long time to construct, and comprised a ticking metronome, tom-tom beats, bubbling water, an air hose, a cow's moo, an oscillator, and three kinds of wine glasses clicking together.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Story
The Art of War dates back to the fifth century BC, and is an ancient Chinese military handbook. Attributed to the intelligent military strategist Sun Tzu, the title of the work is Master Sun's Rules of Warfare when literally translated from Chinese. The book contains 13 chapters, each of which are dedicated to a single aspect of warfare strategy. Emperor Shenzong of Song deemed it the most important of China's Seven Military Classics in 1080 and it is still one of the most influential strategy texts in East Asia.

When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.
Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Publisher's Summary
"All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others."
Animal Farm - the history of a revolution that went wrong - is George Orwell's brilliant satire on the corrupting influence of power. Mr Jones of Manor Farm is so lazy and drunken that one day he forgets to feed his livestock. The ensuing rebellion under the leadership of the pigs Napoleon and Snowball leads to the animals taking over the farm. Vowing to eliminate the terrible inequities of the farmyard, the renamed Animal Farm is organised to benefit all who walk on four legs. But as time passes, the ideals of the rebellion are corrupted, then forgotten. And something new and unexpected emerges....
Tamsin Greig, Nicky Henson, and Toby Jones star in this new drama, part of BBC Radio 4's The Real George Orwell season - a Radio 4 journey that explores the disjuncture between the man who was Eric Blair and the writer who was George Orwell.

Another Look at the Russian Revolution
The animals revolt against the humans led by the pigs is successful. There is happiness, there is joy, a new day is upon us. Then the slow slide of the new leaders into the same positions once occupied by those who came before them.
Animal Farm was George Orwell's take on the Bolshevik revolution; the socialists overthrow of the Tsar and his government. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and the leaders of the Russian people have traditionally been authoritarian. Animal Farm tells the story of the slow slide of the revolutionary who frees the people into the reactionary who enslaves them even deeper than did his predecessors. An excellent classic that holds up quite well.

Not allowed to give a classic less than 3 stars
Somehow I had managed to spend my entire life without reading this classic. It's short and to the point. I'm not sure how this dramatized version differs from the original but I suspect the story lines and dialogue are similar. I'm glad this was short because I don't think I could have listened for several more hours. I did, however, like the dramatized version, replete with sound effects and murmuring. Made it a little better. I've listened and I can cross another classic off my list. Don't think I'll tackle 1984.

Brilliant Tapes, Frightening Story!
I have read the book via iOS E-reader, and followed the instructions Effortless English Podcast which made by AJ Hoge. I just felt this audio book was easy to understand when I listened.
At first, I had expectations for the animals, cause they revolted the human beings, and finally lived the life with freedom.
Then, a little worried when the buck of milk disappeared, and that was the beginning of the wrong things.
After, more and more commandments had been broken, and I felt worried for the miserable animals, hatred for the ugly Napoleon.
Gradually, I felt lucy for myself, there were many characters occurred in the book has appeared in the history in different faces. The hard worker, the repeating machine-men, the propaganda, or the inspiring songs. It really works, and still works now.
I do not blame the animals stupidity, cause I am one of them.
By the way, BBC published an awesome audio drama again, and I love BBC!!!
I will work hard like the naive Boxer, and listen more audio drama.
Until next time, keep on WOW!

Fabulous take of an old classic
I had never read the book and I finally purchased this and got through it in one sitting. I loved the characters and I loved how the actors presented the storyline. It led me to take on further analysis of the story. I did not have a great awareness of the Russian Revolution and this story provides a taster to understanding it. Having read Brave New World in High School and now this, my next Orwell is 1984.
