Publisher's Summary

Anna the Prophetess is the dramatic chronicle of the only woman to be called prophetess in the scriptures. When Anna’s great niece Julia is exiled to Jerusalem as punishment for her refusal to marry a man old enough to be her father, Anna shares the story of her early days of courtship with her husband. Although Julia’s parents admonished her to observe firsthand how lonely Anna’s life is, Julia instead discovers that her great-aunt’s life is far from lonely - it is full of love, peace, and incredible faith. As Anna shares her unwavering testimony of the coming Messiah with her great niece, these two faithful women are changed forever as they seek the Lord’s will in their lives and joyfully witness the long-awaited miracles of Christ’s birth.

It Kept Me Listening

Of course, one of the things that can make or break an audiobook is the narrator. Luone Ingram does a fabulous job with this book, voicing the elderly Anna as well as the younger during the middle of the story. I was never unsure of which character was speaking at any time. Her pitch and cadence were pleasing--neither too fast nor too slow, not too loud nor too quiet. Perhaps the male voices could have been a bit deeper but I had no trouble distinguishing between them.

I have read the gospels numerous times during my life and am pleased that this story of Anna held my interest so well. Obviously, as with any book of this nature, you must be willing to understand that it is a work of fiction. That being understood, I felt the author did her research well and I felt transported to the time period during the entire listen. Anna's story was presented in an entirely believable way and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to "know" her. This is not a scholarly work, rather a warm, friendly, sweet way to spend a few hours.

This wonderful story brings to life the time of Anna, the prophetess

Be sure that you are not eating while listening to this story. You will be sure as I was of being chocked up with tears. This story brings to life the time of Anna, the prophetess and Simeon who both were witnesses to the baby Jesus in the temple. We listen to this story as Anna tells it to her great niece as she had come to visit her in her home. Anna told of her husband of merely eight years and how she came to marry him even beyond the time of a normal betrothal age. Anna’s great niece Julia, can relate a little bit as she is having difficulty with the town gossips about her own choices.

The narrator had a nice range of voices and was very solemn and reverent when necessary due to the person speaking and the subject matter.

I think that this story would be wonderful to read during Christmas time. It would be a unique story of Christ other than the birth of Christ as told in Luke in the Bible but no less significant. I could easily highly recommend this story whether on Audible or the ebook format.
