Story
When Gemma’s romantic holiday with her boyfriend is cancelled, the tearoom sleuth finds herself heading to Vienna instead with her cat Muesli and the nosy Old Biddies for company. And it’s not long before they stumble across a murder right in the heart of Austria’s historic capital. A handsome art critic dies suspiciously at their hotel, and the Old Biddies are determined to sniff out the killer. Is it the bitter hotel owner nursing a grudge? The critic’s jealous mistress wanting revenge? Or even the American horse trainer who seems inexplicably nervous around the police?

Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Publisher's Summary
Champagne and ball gowns, fairy lights, and music...
Oxford summer balls are one of the highlights of the calendar and tearoom sleuth Gemma Rose is looking forward to taking a break and slipping into something gorgeous for the evening. But when the night ends with a celebrity chef murdered by his own whisk, Gemma finds herself plunged into a new mystery - and the nosy Old Biddies keen to help with the investigation!
But trouble is also brewing at her quaint Cotswolds tearoom: Between fighting claims that she’s serving “fake” custard tarts and stopping her little tabby, Muesli, from being catnapped, Gemma has her hands full - and that’s before she has to fend off an amorous Italian. To top it all, her boyfriend Devlin’s mother is coming to visit, and Gemma is anxious to make a good impression...although Mrs O’Connor isn’t quite what she expected!
With so much going on, it’s a recipe for disaster - but with a bit of help from her mother, Gemma might just solve the case...and live to bake another day.

5+/5 Dozens of Custard Tarts…Sinisterly Delicious!
H. Y. Hanna and her Oxford Tearoom Mysteries are at the top of my favorite list, and WOW! here we go with another marvelous page turner to enjoy. The Little Stables tearoom received a rave review comparing their custard tarts to those created by a celebrity TV chef. It is a big ‘coup’ and not bad for their bottom line, but the chef turns out not to be a cordial mentor-style personality with accusations of recipe stealing and using his name for self promotion. Complications arise with women scorned, competing chefs, and then…murder. H.Y. Hanna, has ‘baked up' another clever murder mystery supporting the idea ‘Karma’ exists…at least in literature, but with enough twists and turns, and ample motives and suspects to a final reveal, with Gemma often in peril. Characters, albiet well developed, continue to grow and entertain, Gemma’s and Devlin’s romance may be derailed, and Muesli is always there to ‘meorrw’ in some bother. All of this is topped off with an informative Glossary of British Terms, fascinating banter about British tearoom culture, an excellent understanding of scones in England vs the United States, how clotted cream is made, addressing the debate over whether scones should be slathered first with jam (Cornwall-style) or first with clotted cream (known as Devonshire cream tea), and an easy-to-follow recipe for Egg Custard Tarts!
It's H. Y. Hanna’s story, entertaining and engaging on many “delicious” levels, that has made me a loyal fan, but it's Pearl Hewitt’s voice artistry that makes the audio version my favorite way to enjoy Hanna’s work. Pearl’s talent as a narrator greatly enhances the experience going well beyond the traditional reading style. Her American and various British accents from educated to quirk, female to male, thirty-something to octogenarians illustrate well each character’s personality, as well as offering an emotion and tone to enrich the story. Even the occasional meows of an anxious Muesli. With football season starting and the heat too high to head outside, I am fine…I have Pearl Hewitt reading H. Y. Hanna to keep me company!

Best Charming Cozy Mystery!
Another One Bites the Crust is an entertaining seventh book in the Oxford Tearoom Mysteries series and my new personal favorite. What I like most about H.Y. Hanna’s stories are they are well written with likable characters and the mysteries are plausible with enough red herrings so as not to spoil the endings.
Oxford Tearoom Mysteries features Gemma Rose who is a struggling owner of an adorable tearoom in a tiny Cotswolds village near Oxford University. This installment begins when Gemma and her friends are star struck when Oxford University hosts a celebrity chef event and her little tea shop is asked to cater the event. When Gemma discovers one of the celebrities dead in the prep area, her own life is soon in jeopardy.
Also in this book is a slight case of cat-napping, as well as a few fun chapter’s involving Devlin’s mom who is a bit of a new age free spirit. And of course, the village’s four nosy octogenarians are back and hilarious as usual. This series is pure brain candy and you can easily listen to one book in a few days.
Pearl Hewitt did a fantastic job narrating, providing varying voices for all characters. Pearl narrates with enthusiasm and excitement, which is perfect for such an engaging cozy mystery series. Brava!

Great read, great series, highly recommend!
Another One Bites the Crust, my fifteenth read/listen from author H.Y. Hanna & the seventh in the Oxford Tearoom mysteries. An enjoyable cozy mystery. My wife & I have taken to listening to the books together. We love the narrator’s British accent; we're so impressed with the vocal variety & inflections of narrator Pearl Hewitt, especially her oh so cute animal sounds. Cozy Mystery/romance, captivating primary characters, what other blurbs can I use to describe these books? Oh well, buy the book, read the books, get into a good author and some good characters as I have. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Now that I've finished 2 of H.Y. Hanna's series, The Oxford Tearoom Mysteries & Bewitched by Chocolate I'll have to return to the English Cottage Garden Mysteries. Pearl Hewitt made this absolutely come alive!
What a fun book! I have the audio version and thoroughly enjoyed Pearl Hewitt’s narration. The voices were recognizable throughout and she does a very creditable cat as well. I smiled every time I heard her meow. This is part of a book series but it is definitely stand alone. I truly enjoyed the characters and the mystery was very well executed. I think I should always listen to mysteries in audio format as it’s too difficult to skip to the end to find out who did it so you can sleep! Well done H Y Hanna, this is a well written and enjoyable book

Gemma Rose - <sigh>
I can't explicitly explain why Gemma Rose rubs me up the wrong way sometimes, because the example I would give is a spoiler. However, why, when Devlin goes to the trouble to detail exactly what needs to be done before a suspect is confronted, does she Immediately go and confront said subject!!! Sigh. It's irritating and extremely annoying!
A great plot, but an annoying central character on occasion.

All the usual ingredients but didn't quite rise.
I usually love these books but this one was rather flat in the middle. The murderer was unexpected but the reasoning was good. The feral cat was the star of the show and as usual Muesli was adorable. As commented by another reviewer there was too much swearing. And what is eye rolling? There is a lot of it going on. And why doesn't Gemma know how Cassie feels about Seth; surely as best friends it would have been discussed.

I am enjoying every single book in this series
The Narrator, Pearl Hewitt, is excellent
The stories bring Oxford to life, the plots are intriguing, and there is great humour in them too!
I love the relationship between mother and daughter In fact, I love all the characters
A really feel good series

A Great Listen
When families meet with grown up children caught in the middle it spells fun and games. Throw in a celebrity chef and a posh ball you can guess it's a recipe for Murder. with the usual gang will it be solved.....

Another great book
Another great read. Gemma helps to solve another mystery murder and gets to know her boyfriend a little better.
