Publisher's Summary

They say that necessity is the mother of all inventions. Amir Weatherby has the world in his hands, quite literally. When his company discovers an asteroid on a direct collision course with Earth, they decide to keep the news quiet and find a way to survive the impending apocalypse themselves. Secret projects begin with the intent of preventing the world going the same way as the dinosaurs.

Three top-secret sites are developed, each designed to hold a small pocket of the human race safe until after impact. It just so happens that one of these sites is in space. The former ISS is transformed into a safe haven called the ARC, the Automated Resettlement and Repopulation Cryostation, where some of the world’s greatest scientific minds will sleep through the whole show.

But events unfold in ways that couldn’t have been predicted, and when they arrive back on Earth there is a whole new disaster waiting for them.

Great Story!

Another fantastic story from Devon Ford. I was pleasantly surprised by the story, it tackles quite a few big issues in Science Fiction. I'm looking forward to future sequels to see how these concepts play out.

Start of a great new series ( sort of opera like )

Wow. Quite the debut of a new, very large series by Devon Ford and Marc Veitor. It looks like a strong combination going forward to be sure!
Ford crafts a powerful, realistic dystopian future vision, with enough character development and plot twists to keep the listener coming back for more. Although this story is Book 1, it can stand alone on its own merits.
Marc Veitor is one of the more talented, and unique, Audible performers, and his work on this offering further cements that reputation. Consistent characterizations, with a solid balance between dramatics and atmosphere building, all combine to produce a fascinating, entertaining and, at times, concerning, introduction to the series.
Definitely looking forward to the next book!
Highly recommended.

First Person...Third Person... Who Knows...

I enjoyed the book. It was short and I would have liked a bit more of the work to prepare for what would be needed and then again to set up the camp after landing to have been shown. Sometimes with these titles, there's this race to get to the action and you don't get enough of the process. Or maybe, I just like the process. Who knows?

I was confused as to what person he was writing in for most of the book. His main character was written in first person while the rest of the book was written in third. Most of the time when an author slips it's a one off but the entire book was written this way. It felt weird. If we are in first person, how can we know what is happening somewhere else and what other people are thinking?

Anyway, decent start to a series. Happy listening!

Sooo Good!

Really able to like the characters and get involved with their world. I thought this book was well written as per usual with Mr. Ford. It was a great adventure!

An interesting notion

Not the best apocalypse bopk but not bad either. I found the Big Rich Founder annoying, as I was supposed to. The narrator did a good job and the author captured the essence of humans facing a catastrophe. All in all if there are more books in the series I will check them out.

fascinating story

looking forward to the next one; hopefully there will be one, as the book finishes open-ended. great story of humanity's survival post-asteroid. plausible technology. Narrator is very good, though vocal inflection and emphasis if often used in parts where the listener would expect a more "sidebar" style of conversation to occur. still, well done.

Really enjoyed this new series

I listened to it, then re-listened. I cannot wait for the next one. I try to wait until all books in series are done so I won't have to wait on next book. Hopefully the next will come very soon.

A good and fun read.

It's an interesting idea. It feels like it was executed half heartedly with only the idea to sell future books. It left me hanging in act 2.

Better than expected

This was better than I expected, but my expectations were pretty low. Very short. Actually, kind of glad it was short because it saves me from investing any more time. Nothing new in the story and not interested enough to purchase book 2. Just okay.

Do not buy separately

Good book but I feel put out that you can buy books 1 & 2 combined for 1 credit so slightly soured by audible for me.

Just wow

This has been immense. With Effortless perspective switching, this is a rich and thoroughly thought out sci-fi story. The organic progression into a new earth brought me into an excited state of awe as the story unfurled. i have to say i am eager to find out what comes next.

Imaginative approach to a post-apologetic world

Great story and good characterisation, if a little stereo-typical. Part 1 ends quite abruptly so definitely need to listen to Part 2 immediately :) narration not entirely to my liking, probably because quite strongly American, although character accents are good enough. Overall very good.

Absolutely fantastic

I downloaded this as a free book as a deal and so I didn't really know what to expect. Well, it was fantastic! Really good characters, moves along swiftly, really interesting ideas. Nicely read also and already downloaded the next book. Very impressed.
