Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
An original novel set in the universe of Star Trek: Voyager, from the New York Times best-selling author!
As the Federation starship Voyager continues to lead the Full Circle Fleet in its exploration of the Delta Quadrant, Admiral Kathryn Janeway remains concerned about the Krenim Imperium and its ability to rewrite time to suit its whims. At Captain Chakotay's suggestion, however, she orders the fleet to focus its attention on a unique planet in a binary system where a new element has been discovered. Several biospheres exist on this otherwise uninhabitable world, each containing different atmospheres and features that argue other sentient beings once resided on the surface. Janeway hopes that digging into an old-fashioned scientific mystery will lift the crews' morale, but she soon realizes that the secrets buried on this world may be part of a much larger puzzle - one that points to the existence of a species whose power to reshape the galaxy might dwarf that of the Krenim.
Meanwhile, Lieutenants Nancy Conlon and Harry Kim continue to struggle with the choices related to Conlon’s degenerative condition. Full Circle’s medical staff discovers a potential solution, but complications will force a fellow officer to confront her people’s troubled past and her own future in ways she never imagined....

great story!
A very star trek story from beggining to end. Very much enjoyed it. Felt like a classic TNG story with a Voyager twist. I really wish however that Simon and Schuster would stop picking random star trek stories from a series. this one picks up on book 6 or 7 I think of the pocket Voyager series. there isn't to much you have to already know but it's just weird to not start from the beggining. I dont have time to read physical books so just forced to read the synopsis of what happened before.

Nice to visit the crew, but not enough sci-fi.
Nice to visit the Voyager crew again, but there just was not enough sci-fi amidst all the cliche post-2k dogma ( sorry, trying not to objectify a people group by their age). One or two other reviews mentioned that it felt a little bit like a soap opera; must admit, I had to agree. That being said, I did enjoy the actual Trek story & characters.

More Voyager audiobooks needed.. just not this one
I am sooo happy that ST Voyager is finally in unabridged audio, I've been waiting for this for a long time. It is awesome to see the Voyager crew again, and all the crew of the Full Circle fleet. but the story line is way off.
Very stupid storyline. From Amazon: "There is no way Janeway would allow away teams to have shore leave on an unknown planet with biodomes created by an unknown species. They have an established planet in the Delta quadrant for shore leave-Neelix's planet. What occurred in this book was something no Starfleet captain or admiral would allow, as the personnel "partying" on an unknown planet could easily damage the planet (which it did). The book also concentrated more on the new characters than the established ones. Patel's whining about Seven was so annoying I wanted to slap her. And while I am not bothered by a homosexual relationship, having a character who has shown only heterosexual interests in past books suddenly having homosexual feelings shows the author's unfamiliarity with the character of Icheb. Not to mention that Icheb has also experienced both pleasure and pain in past books (and on the show), making his current inability to feel pleasure or pain ridiculous. And enough with pairing everyone off in romantic relationships! This is supposed to be science fiction, not the Love Boat! Please get Christine Golden back as the writer of Voyager books."

Great narration, great story to continue Voyager.
Great narration, and the story is a great Star Trek adventure continuing Voyager.
Though sometimes elements of the story seemed to drag a bit (details of the interpersonal relationships of non-central characters) it paid off well and tied up the story very well.
The story pays about equal attention to central characters from the series and to characters not present in the show, but that actually turned into a nice surprise and seems to expand on the world of Voyager in an interesting way.
It should be known to Audible only consumers that this book is apparently part of a series, seems to take place after some events concerning these characters and the end sets up the next book.
This wasn't a problem though because the end ties up THIS story well and makes you want the next right away!
I hope that they do more Audible books in this series, and/or more stories about Voyager.
I would also hope that the narrator does more Star Trek stories in the future, she was fantastic and really helps to immerse you into the world of Voyager years after the end of the story in the show.

Great Story
I'm so glad they are releasing Star Trek books in unabridged format. This was a great story with a fascinating new set of problems and a hell of a cliffy. I can't wait to see where the story goes next! The narrator was amazing. She did a fantastic job capturing the characters we know and love from the show, especially Janeway and The Doctor. I hope they continue releasing the books in the Voyager Relaunch series including "Mirrors and Smoke" coming out in October.

Whiny Jr. Starfleet Personnel - Spoilers
This is a well written story. A true Star Trek adventure and I'm glad I listened to it almost straight through. I didn't agree that Dr. Sal was unethical, at all. The Counselor should not have made that promise to remain quiet IF he believed Dr. Sal's actions were unethical. The Science Officer was insecure and jealous, which led to actions that endangered her and her fellow officers, and then was hidden behind noble self-lessness. The Guin character blames senior officers for the actions of the Scienc Officer which justifies insecurity and jealousness as foundational values for success. Narrator is excellent.

Not much at all via a new Trek series book
Not much at all!
This story lacked the typical quality of story line for a Star Trek series book! The narrator was so bad there was no distinction in characters she portrayed and it was hard to follow when they all sound alike. The storyline was needlessly filled with references to alien sexual gender preferences especially in reference to “Echeb” a very conflicted Borg rescue who was incapable of being a sexual individual let alone the fact that he was now a homosexual non human. The book was just not good. Very few I return to Audible. This will be one that goes back!

Boring
Nobody loves Star Trek Voyager more than I. I've ready literally every book. But this one is so dull and lifeless. Classic Voyager was action packed. Miss Beyer has managed to make it turgid. The narrator didn't help either. And can we please just dump the whole alternate timeline fiasco and just pretend you never tried to kill off Janeway?

Unending boring dialogue
I love Star Trek. Voyager being my favorite of all of them. How I wanted to like this book but I just couldn't. Boring plot that could have been better if they just skipped all the long drawn out conversations of characters you don't even care about. Not to mention how they throw in garbage like it's okay with the Federation to have an abortion at anytime until the actual birth. Nothing even interesting happens until 3/4 of the book. The only voice the narrator does good with is Janeways. This book is definitely one you can skip!

This was a very enjoyable story with an interesting story line and interesting characters. There was however a dr who’s arrogance really ticked me off, her belief that she was right and another species were wrong. When I first heard this I thought the writer had that belief but gladly they did not

Not the best
I though this started off well but I quickly got a bored and found myself not paying attention. It's not a particularly exciting story and the tone is just a bit off. A lot of the plot is about the personal lives of the crew which I didn't enjoy. The narrator was ok but there wasn't a lot of differentiation between characters which made it a little confusing at times.

Exciting and interesting Audiobook
The story was composed well and was entertaining drama. It was not overwhelmingly compelling but was a good story, nevertheless. January LaVoy is a fantastic narrator and is clearly spoken. Her characterizations were excellent and very easy to listen to.
The ending was spectacular and served as a good hook for the follow up.
