Publisher's Summary

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about what Jesus can do for your life. It is not even the answer to the question, “How can I be saved?” It is the declaration of a victory. In his coming to earth, his suffering, and his Resurrection, Christ conquered demons, sin, and death. In Arise, O God, author and podcaster Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick introduces us to the spiritual war that Christ won by his victory, how we are caught in that war’s cosmic crossfire, what the true content of the gospel is—and how we are to respond.

Ancient Faith: the leading publisher of books about Orthodox Christianity in English.

Clarity

As one who didn’t dip her toe into the orthodoxy but rather has jumped cannonball style in. I realize I’m taking on too much water so to speak but I’m hungry. I’m so hungry I’m choking on information. Arise O God has pulled a of info together that I’ve been reading and made it a bit more bite-size. Father Andrew Steven Damick does not diminish or lessen the quality of information presented he just has a mastery of language that helps clearly communicate the point.

Beautifully written

Thank you for this book! As an Orthodox Christian it helped me to understand more of the history behind the word gospel and many things I had never heard. I have purchased 3 already for dear friends. It is a must read for everyone!

Ancient Yet Fresh Gospel Story

Fr. Damick did an excellent job telling the story of the the gospel according to the Scriptures in a way that is very understandable to modern readers but not so obscured by modern categories as many other modern tellings of the gospel. Very thankful for the work put into this book. It’s like listening to an episode of Lord of Spirits podcast, but ironically shorter.

Very good

A very thought provoking book on what a gospel is, and what the gospel of Christ meant to Christians 2000 years ago.

Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick reads it really well, and is entertaining to listen to. I highly recommend this to any Christian.

I’m a huge fan of the Lord of Spirits podcast, and this met my expectations.

Nice intro

A nice introduction to the Orthodox Christian view of the meaning of the Gospels and how it differs from other branches of Christianity.

Refreshing

The author has done his homework and it shows in the content of this work. The subject although very common was delightful examined with historical emphasis making this message new in the modern context. Very enjoyable and simplistic.

The depth of Christ's story is astounding

My understanding of Christ and Christianity has deepened more than I expected when going into this book. I've been raised protestant my entire life and I've NEVER heard the story of Jesus the way this book reveals it. My faith has deepened immeasurably as a result of finally hearing the true gospel.

Concise, well structured and well presented.

A short but good presentation of the gospel through the lens of Orthodox Christianity. Does not stray or dally, being focused at its goal and achieving it.

Father Andrew has a good media voice so his reading was great.
