That’s the mantra I’m repeating when a well-equipped biker pulls over to save me. One glance at the scowl Crawford Doxe is wearing proves he isn’t impressed with the task. Since my neighbor and his daughter moved in that stormy night, I’ve been trying to restore what was lost. I would do just about anything for those two. Acting as Nolan’s reliable doormat is getting old, though. Especially when he seems incapable of accepting love. Nolan Jasper has pushed me away for the last time. If only he would realize it before I’m already gone. USA Today and Amazon top 10 best-selling author Harloe Rae delivers a heartfelt romance featuring a jaded single father and the woman desperate to rescue him from the clutches of grief.

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

Arrested. Wrongfully accused. Sentenced to 10 years. But the steel bars release me early. After serving half of my time for a crime I didn’t commit, they grant me parole - with a very short leash. My second chance at freedom begins now, and I won’t waste it. I should’ve been paying more attention. Ambushed. Captured. Stranded. When I wake in the depths of a snowy forest, all seems lost. I’ve been left alone in the wilderness with zero means of escape. Until someone rouses beside me. I recognize Blakely Cross instantly, yet she’s barely more than a stranger.

Creep. Freak. Crazy eyes. I've heard it all. Over the years, they've slammed me with every demeaning name in the book. Their taunts warped me like a steady stream of poison. Anger replaced anxiety as I started believing the cruelty spat my way. Until she showed up and changed everything. Lennon Bennett is pure innocence - warm sunshine breaking apart my stormy existence. She's everything good and maybe I can be too. For her. With her. Because of her. Lennon doesn’t know I’m beckoned closer with each breath. She isn't aware that I'm completely consumed with her.

I was only seven the first time Grady Bowen whispered those words to me. Cloaked by the black sky under a blanket of stars, it was easy to get lost. He didn't have any good memories of his own and needed to borrow mine. I would willingly give him anything. Being infatuated with that boy was a beautiful curse. What could have been special didn't get the chance to bloom. He'd never see me as more than his best friend's kid sister. That was a hard lesson to learn, but not the most difficult.

The last person on earth I want to be stranded with is Gianni Lupo. But, thanks to the blizzard of the century, I’m trapped in a roadside motel room with that cocky bastard for two straight days, and with one small bed. Some women might thank Mother Nature for delivering a polar vortex that maroons them with six feet of solid muscle, those deep blue eyes, that sexy grin - but not me. I’ve known Gianni Lupo all my life, and he’s never brought me anything but bad luck, and trouble. I should have known what the disastrous end result would be.

The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

I've been dreading this for a year. Okay, that's a lie. I've been dreading this reunion since we graduated high school 10 years ago. So why am I here, standing outside the door like the eternal wallflower I am? I'd say it's because my younger sister browbeat me into it, but the truth is, I'm tired of being a nobody. Of never taking a risk with myself and my life. And...well...maybe I'm also hoping to see him. The tall, insanely gorgeous man walking my way now. Oliver Fritz is regarded as one of Boston's sexiest doctors. I know him as the former god of our school.

I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting, and then bam! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist. Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Now I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

Publisher's Summary
One deep breath. Two slow blinks. Three hollow beats. I’m still here. After three years, that reminder isn’t as necessary. But everyone has their bad days. This is definitely one of them. Until an adorable little boy dashes into my store. His zest for life makes me smile in a way that’s been long lost. Then I meet his father. Well, confront is more like it.
Brance Stone is volatile. Offensive. Harsh. And can’t be bothered to care. Not that I want him to. I get frostbite just looking into Brance’s glacial stare. But there’s something undeniable about him.
My misery suddenly craves company. The suffocating numbness lifts whenever Brance is near. That alone should have me running in the opposite direction. Try as I might, there’s no avoiding him. If only I could understand why. As if he’d let me.
I don’t ask. He doesn’t tell. A silent, bitter truce settles between us. That was our first mistake. It’s certainly not the last.
An Amazon top 10 best seller.

Angsty enemies to lovers
Oh my goodness..Brance is such a jerk!!! I listened to the audiobook and it was fabulous! Brance and Braelyn first did not go very well. Brance is a damaged and man. Braelyn is suffering from a broken heart and isn’t looking for a relationship...panic attacks have a run of her life right now.
Brance’s son Ollie loves visiting Thicket - Braelyn’s shop and Braelyn cares for the little boy. As the visits increase so does the angst between B & B. As they work their their communication issues...in a variety of ways..their live begins to blossom.
Such a great read...love, angst, forgiveness, heat and a great story.

Brance and Braelyn
Ask Me Why is the story of two broken characters, Brance and Braelyn, who are brought together by an adorable little boy, Ollie. The storyline held my interest even though Brance was such an unlikable person. Ollie was definitely my favorite character in the story. Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer both did a great job bringing this story to life.

Great enemies to lovers
First, let me say, I received a free copy of this audiobook (at my own request) and am voluntarily leaving this review.
Brance is a brilliant lawyer, but he’s also a complete and total ALPHAHOLE with major relationship issues. Braelyn, the owner of Thicket a curio shop, who is still working on some heartbreaking issues from her past, is a sweet and beautiful woman. Ollie (my absolute favorite character and unknowing matchmaker) Brance's adorable son, in need of a friend. Now you may ask yourself why you should read this book. It's because the characters and the story were beautifully developed, the narrator's (Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer) flow was superb, and the heat level was legit! All these factors truly made listening to this book a pleasure.

Superb Enemies To Lovers To Forever Romance!
Brance may a phenomenally brilliant lawyer, but he’s also an angry, volatile, harsh, offensive and confrontational alphahole. Braelyn, the owner of a curio shop trying to get past a heartbreaking loss, is the polar opposite of Brance in just about every way. When fate brings these two together, let’s just say it’s something considerably less than charming! Ask Me Why is a beautifully written, fabulously narrated, angsty, enemies to lovers, to forever, romance that will keep you entertained, keep you engaged, and make you FEEL, and believe me, I felt every emotion under the sun with this one. Both the characters and the plot were beautifully developed and very well defined. The flow was superb, the pace did not lag, and the heat level was delightful! The narration that breathed life into this beautiful story was emotionally spot on, crystal clear, and truly made listening a pleasure. The entire experience, both story and performance gets five stars!

Grumpy Dad meets Sweet Candy Shop owner
I would probably give this closer to 3.5 ⭐️
Ollie was definitely my absolute favorite part of this story. His Dad, Brance, was a legit jerk for most of this book. In fact, there were times when I wished the heroine, Braelyn, would just give up on him!! But, she immediately cared for Ollie and decided to always be his friend. Seriously, she was so sweet and so very broken. Brance was equally damaged and weary of connecting with anyone, especially the owner or Ollie's most favorite place, Thicket. They just needed a reason to work through their issues. And Ollie may have even attempted to play matchmaker a little. This story was narrated by Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer, who are always a really fun and amazing duo.

Enjoyable story with great narration
The synopsis tells you everything you need to know about the story going in except that it's a really enjoyable listen with fantastic narration. The story pulled me in right away and held my attention until the very end. Every time I had to pause the story I couldn't wait to get back to it.
While all the characters are good and eventually all likable, Ollie Steals the show right from the start. Great character
The narration was great as well. Both narrators do a fantastic job as usual bringing the story to life. Both have great voices that easy to listen to for long periods of time. Their narration flows smoothly and evenly with great character voices adding to the overall enjoyment of the book.

Enemies to Lovers
My favorite genre thrown in with a single dad. Swoon! My favorite part of enemies to lovers is the moment they realize how thin the line between love and hate really is. This story doesn’t disappoint on that one. Sweet little boy determined to marry off his dad is so sweet! Broody dad who is jaded on relationships but wants to keep his son happy. Every good combination in one great story!

Unrealistic
This book is has an interesting plot. The little boy is the most fascinating character of all. I just simply could not connect with either the male or the female main characters. I read and listened to the audible....neither helped the storyline which although it sounded interesting, it lacked execution. The story may be something that you may enjoy but it was not for me. The male was a offensive and boorish. The female was not ready for any relationship except with the child. No cliffhanger, HEA (as unrealistic as it seems). Narration was not notable.

Loved this
This is the second book I have read/listened to by this author and I loved it my heart from for Bralyn and the tragedy she had survived. I really did not like Brance but i loved how we got to see why he was like he was and the love he has for his son.
I loved the narrators they brought Bralyn and Brance to life.

Loved the dual narration of Heather Costa, Jeffrey Kafer
Braelyn is in emotional pain and depressed, since a tragic accident several years before. Her store is her haven until one day it is invaded by this little boy and his dad . Brance, is an abrasive, rude and treats romantic attachments to women with utter contempt.
Well that is until he meet Braelyn.

Ask Me Why?
I listen to Ask Me Why after having it on my tbr for a while now but I got to say it was a disappointment. I like the narration, they did a good job bringing the characters to life. However the story was just not that good. My favourite character was the little boy he was super cute and sweet, and he is the reason I kept listening. However his dad Brance was a big NO for me. Why a woman would want to put up with this jerk is beyond me. But then again Braelyn was barely hanging on, and wasn't ready for a relationship.

Although this is well narrated I didn't like this book at all. Brance the male love interest is a Class A 4sshole, very unlikable in fact I hated him. Everything he said/did was highly offensive, horrible, spiteful, he hates women and most of his vile murmuring's are directed at female love interest Braelyn. He continued to do this despite knowing she is suffering from severe PTSD from a car crash which resulted in her partner dying and her surviving with injuries. Even when he physically sees her suffering from a panic attack, he couldn't give two sh!ts and just directs more insults her way. He's also nasty to the staff in his office and tried to seek revenge on the person/people who made complaints about his horrible behaviour in the office.
I didn't think the author conveyed an emotional love connection between them and barely conveyed lust other than describing sex scenes. I didn't get a sense at any point that they had fallen in love, only that Braelyn had fallen in love with Brance's son. The son was too super sweet, he talked and acted more like a Disney character. Realistically he would have been negatively effected by his father's narcissistic behaviour and would have told his father off/defended Braelyn/got upset etc, but he was unconditionally bouncy & happy.
The story itself is very flimsy, nothing interesting really happens and the plot is very predictable with a happy ending, which didn't make sense to me. Their relationship is verbally volatile rather than being back and forth playful or challenging banter, which is what I think the author tried to portray. Braelyn comes across as a doormat because she just takes all the abuse. For ex, Brance says some really nasty things to her then soon after asks her to babysit his son without payment or any real gratitude. Anyone else would have told him where to go but Braelyn just did whatever he told her to do and came across as a wet blanket. I ended up disliking both the love interests, the whole book just seems very unrealistic and overly long.
I was given this book for free of my own choosing and voluntarily left this review.

What a fantastic listen
This was a really interesting book and I really enjoyed the characters that were created. Definitely my favourite was Ollie but all were characters that I loved. I’ve always loved Harloe’s books and this one is definitely one of her best.

I loved this!!
Wow I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I loved the characters even though Brance was a Jackwagon. I wish Bralyn would not have let Brance take control as much as she did at first. Ollie was awesome! The narration was awesome!! I will be putting this on my re-listen list. I definitely recommend this book.
