A quick and captivating listen!

This audiobook is fantastic. All the way from the narrators delivery to the minute details of the story. you can tell the narrator understood exactly what the author meant to convey and it made the story pass quicker than I would have liked. Every character is unique and a blast to get to know; always leaving you wanting to learn more though. Overall this book is a genuinely enjoyable step into a brand new futuristic cyberpunk world that I cannot wait to hear more about! BRING ON BOOK TWO!!!

Amazingly Intriguing Story

A friend of mine suggested this book to me. Was told it's a Cyberpunk/Final Fantasy type of story. I went in thinking it would be just a run-of-the-mill mashup however I was pleasantly surprised that it really was its own thing. The world-building that's been done is fantastic and really gets you into the story. the Dialog is well-paced and truly does flesh out the characters. I can't wait for the next book.

A refreshing experience!

This story brings back that refreshing nostalgic vibe you remember as a kid which is very hard to feel in some of the newer stories today. It sinks its claws into you and keeps you listening to the very end. I couldn't imagine another Nararator for this role either. Zachary Johnson brings this story to life in a way that no other can match. To all the new listeners browsing through the reviews before they give this audio book a chance..... let's just say I'm jealous that you get to experience this for the first time. Yep it's one of those stories. Enjoy!!

Fresh take on Cyberpunk

This was a great jumping-off point for the series. The author wastes no time getting right into the action and progressing the story. This had a captivating narrative from beginning to end with excellent attention to detail.

I'll give the author credit for building a universe that seems to be inhabited and for developing people who exude an aura of authenticity that makes you want to know more about them and care about what happens to them. The characters are magnificently brought to life by Zachary Johnson. I've never read anything by this author or listened to anything read by this narrator, but I hope they continue to collaborate on the next installments. This first installment has me curious about what will happen to these characters next. Bring on Book 2!

Narrator levels up an already great story!

I read the paperback of this book when it first came out and really enjoyed the story. Heard there was an audio book for it and decided to give it a try. The way I had originally read it in my mind doesn't come close to the life and energy that the narrator, Zachary Johnson brings.

The story fits right in with other cyberpunk fantasy titles, but still carves out it's own niche with the world it crafts. It builds up speed throughout the book and leaves you at a cliffhanger wanting more! The narration levels up the story and breathes life into the characters in a way I wasn't able to. Such a great listen! Definitely one I could listen to multiple times.

Awesome story, Can't wait for more!

the story was well written, never dragged on and kept hanging on what would happen next! Great descriptive storytelling paints an awesome world for these interesting characters. The narration was excellent. Hard to believe it was just one person narrating the audiobook. the clear distinction between voices were great and I never got confused on which character was speaking. Great story, and great audiobook!

"Meh" at best

This is a short sci-fi book, about 4 hours long. All of the action takes place in th first half of the book, with the climax of the story occuring at roughly the half way point.

The second half of the story is a mix of non-scifi background (almost fantasy like), with some slow paced slice-of-life style writing as we go through the main character's healing, a 13 year old girls school day, getting ice cream, and shopping for a new arm (which, strangely, she's given the best on for free without parental approval, undergoes surgery without informing any adult in her life, and no one questions this).

It ends on a very obvious cliffhanger that sets you up for Book 2; but rather than having a complete story, it just feels like the author cut a book in half and sold each half separately. The enting is entirely anti-clamatic.

If feels like the second half of the book should have been first, the first half of the book should have been second, and the final chapter where the girl gets her new arm should have been an epilogue. At the very least, don't shove *all* of your action scenes in only the first half of a book.

The writing is mediocre at best. The main character is morose, has petty opinions about everyone around him, is rude to everyone, and seems to go through quick emotional shifts between normal and angry. He's also very incurious when a rich customer who is very intrigued with his past gives him a bunch of free stuff; this incuriousness continues throughout the story, despite the character seeming intelligent in other aspects.

I don't understand how other reviewers claim that this book is one of the best books they've ever read; it's clearly a mid-quality cheap sci-fi cyberpunk novel.

Excellent Descriptive and Engaging Experience!

As someone who reads a lot of books, this one is one of my favorites in recent years. As soon as it was released via Audible, I couldn't wait to experience the descriptive and immersive storytelling in a new way. The narration is absolutely incredible. Audio books need a great voiceover to be successful and this has been one of the best narrations I have heard. The world building and character development are really great experiences to watch as they unfold. Listening to the audiobook, I found myself envisioning the environment with much greater detail than other Audible books I have listened to over the years. This is kudos to the writer and narration. I am excited to see the future of this series unfold! I AM A FAN!

A really fun cyberpunk adventure

This was a lot of fun to listen to. The performance is amazing, and that voice modulation for Synric is chef’s kiss.

I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I’m not really one for fighting scenes - although I did enjoy Clain’s deductions and Dawn’s style, but I love all of the character moments. I super got into the story after the tournament, I felt it really came into its own, and left me wanting more by the conclusion. The characters are all memorable, with each feeling unique and bringing something fresh to the narrative. This was a lot of fun

Cyberpunk with a hint of Manga

After a slower start the story picks up and I didn't wanna stop.

A great book to start your way into the Cyberpunk genre. Fantastic lively narration throughout the whole audio book.
It has Shonen Manga characteristics which go well inside the world and events surrounding the characters.

I highly recommend to give it a try.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

A very nice cyberpunk yarn that keeps a good pace throughout. Excellent narration with enjoyable delivery.
If I had one complaint, it would be that it seemed short, but even that is intentional because it is part of a series.
I em very much looking forward to the following books and the further development of the characters. I think Dawn is my favorite, a beast with a heart of gold :)

Awesome narration of a great story

This is the first time I've heard Zachary narrate a book and he did an amazing job. I have already read the book but it was so good to listen to the characters and their personalities.

The voice acting of the dialog between the characters were great and I could really feel the emotions come out from his work. In a small amount, there were voice effects used in a few of the lines which were good to hear and helped set the atmosphere where they were used. Hearing the descriptions of the actions and fighting aided my imagination in painting a stronger picture than I did before.

From somebody who has already read the book it was fun to hear the story in a different way from how I'd imagined hearing it and seeing how far or close I was to it.

I really hope to hear Zachary narrating book 2.
