Despite the criticism he faced in his early days, the Atkins diet has become extremely popular with millions of people around the world and has been given dozens of books. 

The Atkins diet is a little similar to the ketogenic diet, in that both diets recommend consuming large amounts of protein and fat, and drastically reducing its carbohydrate intake. The body draws its energy from carbohydrates and fats. It is only when it runs out of these two macronutrients that the body starts to draw its protein energy. 

With the Atkins diet, the body goes from burning carbohydrates to burning fat. Foods high in carbohydrates cause a rise in blood sugar, which sends the body the signal that it must produce more insulin. Insulin is a hormone that produced in excess, causes the storage of fat. 

Robert Atkins' diet limits foods known to increase blood sugar and insulin production. This diet significantly limits the consumption of carbohydrates; so the body is forced to burn fat. There is no caloric restriction either. SIMPLE.

It simply works...

I was looking to shed about twenty pounds in a month or so, so I picked this up. It helped me to understand the essentials of low carb dieting and it did help me jump start my weight loss. It's a hard program to follow, but I found it does work, though I don't think I'll stay on it indefinitely. [...].

Jump Start in Atkins

This is an excellent book that will help you get started in Atkins. If you have ever seriously considered dieting with Atkins, this is the book to get. It will tell you all you need to get started, without going into the nitty-gritty of nutrition, and enough information to show how and why it works. The book also comes with a list of questions that will help you as checkpoints of where you are before starting each phase of the diet. The book also includes many recipes you can try while on the diet, so that it not only lists what you can or cannot eat, but help you devise ways of preparing the food so that you will not be bored with the diet. I highly recommend this diet, and the book is a must as well.

I like this book the Atkins essentials.

The book is simply wonderful. Atkins has been the only diet that has allowed me to stay healthy and energetic while losing many pounds. It has been the only diet that has truly worked for me. The pounds just start falling off, just like the book says.

Lose weight with no hunger

Atkins works. I love this diet. I lost eight pounds in the first two weeks. It was hard in the beginning and I was craving carbs. I allowed my self a cheat meal to make it workable during the weekends and I did try to exercise at least three times a week.

Great resource

I started by learning the essentials and applied this to my diet. I found blood work returned by my doctor which was simply outstanding in an extremely short time. Lost weight quickly and very permanently. Able to maintain weight and never felt this was a fad diet. From the beginning, I knew this was a lifestyle I could live with forever. Very pleased and will continue to reference. Look forward to reading more like this book.

Successful diet without being hungry

The book is great and has not finished reading it yet but have started to follow the program. Very helpful and it has changed my eating habits. My weight is also starting to go down and I feel better.

Atkins Diet Book

This diet works: however, it is difficult to maintain on the limited selections of food. It is the main diet that has ever worked for me. I like protein foods, and after this diet, my taste for carbohydrates has diminished. Helpful in understanding our digestive processes.

Very good book, but tough diet plan to stick to

Atkins products that supplement the diet taste good, but portion size is small and they are expensive. Atkins could work for some, and contrary to popular belief, it is a healthy way of dieting, and you will lose weight if you follow it, but I think it is way too strict for most people on a long term basis. This book is well written, easy to understand, great diet ideas and a good schedule of what you should expect while on Atkins. Well designed, insightful, informative book with lots of useful examples for the Atkins diet plan.

Feel healthy, not hungry

Great recipes that will help with weight loss while still feeling healthy and energetic but not hungry. This was a great help, I have already lost 18lbs in 2 weeks and still going strong.

It works

It works. Just stick to what it tells you to do. It won't be easy but what other choice is there? Remember, this is a lifestyle. We started this diet and lost 45 pounds (total of two) in 3 weeks. We never missed anything or had any doubts about it. It is so good to see results in such a short time that motivate us to continue.

Sound Approach!

Food lists are very skimpy; recipes use ingredients which aren't listed. This leaves me unsure of using my own food preferences
