Daniel Rice is a government science investigator whose specialty is solving seemingly intractable problems through scientific inquiry. But Daniel's intellectual strength is sorely tested by the bizarre realities he finds in the quantum world. Extra dimensions of space trap the unwary, probability replaces cause and effect, and time isn't what anyone imagined. Publisher's Summary
Breathable air on Earth is running out and no one knows why.
A mysterious discovery nearly 30 million years old may hold the answer.
To find it, a glaciologist and the inventor of a cutting-edge brain implant will need to work together.
But can they unlock its shocking secrets in time to save humankind?
While investigating hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean, scientist Nicholay Panov and his crew mysteriously vanish. Weeks later, when their vessel is finally found, the hull has been crushed nearly beyond recognition. Stranger still, the wreck now lies off the coast of Antarctica, 7,000 miles from where it sank.
Searching for answers, glaciologist Sienna Panov reaches out to Ben Fisher, the rich and enigmatic CEO who commissioned the expedition. Ben is the inventor of a revolutionary neural enhancement device. Once implanted in the brain, it has the power to boost both mental and physical abilities to dizzying new heights.
Except Ben has recently suffered a tragedy of his own, after a savage attack robbed him of his memory and left him framed for murder. Working together, Ben and Sienna soon discover a shadowy conspiracy connecting both events.
There are ancient secrets powerful people don't want them to uncover, secrets that trace back to America's Space Race and to a time long before humans walked the Earth. Secrets with the power to save the planet - or utterly destroy it.
Filled with stunning twists and turns, Augmented is a technothriller that will leave you breathless!

Huge Win
This book is one of my favourites and was glad to review it. Without giving it away the concept of being able to augment yourself to make improvements is a great concept and we may, at some point in humanities time, have to deal with the changes made to an individual to improve things they don't like about themselves.
Great Book and Love this author keep up the great work.

Story 6/5, narration 6/5 !!
This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would jump at the chance to listen to another.
This book is complex but not in a difficult or negative way. I love how the various groups of people with their individual expertise and experiences start to come together to figure out this dilemma. Very creative.
The publishers summary covers it, so I won’t elaborate.
This is the second book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Gary Tiedemann ) and I would listen to another in a heartbeat . He is a fantastic voice actor/narrator. His voices were distinct, varied, and appropriate. Male and female characters all had believable voices and he gave them all distinct personalities. Wonderful!
There are no explicit sex scenes, there is some violence but not excessive. I don’t recall swearing.

Fun ride but...
I felt like the editing with this book was seriously lacking. I love Prescott's other books on Audible., including this one. They make a sci-fi nerd think. The action is so interesting at times, I forgot I was listening to a book and envisioned it all crisply. I fell in love with the characters and wanted to learn more about all of them. My one gripe was the similes. There were a lot of them. Overdone. I made that decision when I heard, "...a smile on his face like a some women wear lipstick. All the time." What? My daughter (15) and I laughed a lot over this. It was followed by another simile that was completely unrelated in the next paragraph and un-noteworthy. Please, editors. It's your job to red light these faux-pas. They were unrelated to the character and silly...and not the only the two I referred to here. I do hope there is a second and third book though because I loved the extinction series and I enjoy Prescott's blending of science and fiction.

Interesting story
I enjoyed this book so much I lost an entire night’s sleep because I just couldn’t stop listening. Had to know what was going to happen next. Figuring out what was happening along with the main character was fascinating. Over all it was a unique read that I’m sure I will read again now knowing the ending to pick up hints I probably missed the first time.

Super Lousy
Every cliche in the genre is there. Literally forced myself to finish it. Flimsy, bland, totally unrelateable plot. Not a single part of this novel is even remotely captivating. No character building. No world building. very predictable twists, if you could call them that. All in all, a total waste of time, and Audible credits.

Mystery, Sci-Fi, and the reason for Climate Change
This is my first listen to James D Prescott. He has created an excellent mystery that I keep wanting to call a murder mystery or who-dun-it but that is not really accurate. This story takes place in a near future of the Earth we live in. The main character wakes up with a knife in his hand, covered in blood, and a body nearby with her throat cut. He has no idea who she is or even who He is. We learn about the world we live in and the people involved in the story as the main character does. Therefore, a murder mystery or who-dun-it. But we soon find out who did it. The fun comes in finding out why, who paid him and why. And, what is really going on that started all this.
This was an excellent story that led you discovery by discovery to the truth and what to do about it. Some of the fun Sci-Fi parts is that many people have “leveled up” like you do in a video game. These people have an implant that can “Augment” certain features. You find or buy tokens and choose to apply them to areas of your choice. I have played several games that work just like this. You can put all your boosts in one area or spread them out over multiple for a general increase in all abilities.
At the end the author gives a short talk on the realities of the “Tech” in this story. Sounds like a pretty cool future to me.
Excellent story with good narration. Will be looking for more opportunities to listen.

Wild adventure.
Mysterious ancient structures. Cutting edge technology. A massive conspiracy, an ongoing coverups, and one man is at the center of it all....and he can't even remember who he is! Augmented is one wild, globe-spanning....ummm solar system spanning adventure. This is a complex thriller featuring multiple interconnected stories, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. While satisfying, I must admit the ending left me with a few questions (none of which I'll post here because they would be massive spoilers, lol) One thing I really love about Prescott's books is at the end of the book he adds a bonus section where he explains what is fact or fiction, as often times he takes something that is real and just takes it one step further, which I think is why his stories often feel like they could really happen in the not too distant future. Gary Tiedemann, as always, does a great job with the narration. I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Ordinary and stale
I read Prescott’s Extinction series, the plot was interesting enough to keep me engaged, but the writing was nothing special. This book is even more full of cliches, and dialogue that sounds like a 50s TV cop show. The writing just is bad. Plot was OK, but very much a rehash of the other series.

A Book with a different take on things
Wow, I loved this book - now, for me anyway it was not a easy listen, by this I mean I had to rewind a few times to listen again to explanations of somethings which I do not count as bad, it means it was a book that made you use your mind, not one to just switch on and relax but one that keeps you on the edge of your seat and has you totally immersed in the story.
The author has a new take on 'aliens' Climate Change, Our Past and makes a very good case for them in this novel - its a novel but who knows its also a possible therapy and that is what makes the best types of these books - never sure what category they should be in 'sci-fi, suspense, mystery, something else.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review and I happily say it is great and I will be searching out his other books as found they are on audible and buying them.
