Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction - at work, at school, and at home - is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.

His observation rings true: urban legends, conspiracy theories, and bogus public-health scares circulate effortlessly. Meanwhile, people with important ideas (business people, teachers, politicians, journalists, and others) struggle to make their ideas "stick". In this indispensable guide, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds draw their power from the same six traits.

We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

a braggart tone
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This was a great story. I can't imagine what the author went through to develop the life skills he teaches about. But over and over, I felt like the author was more interested in telling of the amazing things he's done than teaching a lasting lesson. The narrator sounds like he's narrating a car commercial the entire time as well. I really want to like this book, but the braggart tone is a contradiction to the reasons for authenticity that the author is trying to convey.
How could the performance have been better?
different narrator
Any additional comments?
I got a lot out of the book, but the words didn't hold value because I didn't feel like he was interested in teaching anything. He was interested in speaking on his greatness. This book doesn't know whether or not it wants to be an autobiography.

Sadly, an unplesant listen
I got this audiobook because of a reputable article I read on the merits of Bill George and his leadership. I'm sure its all true but I couldn't even finish the first chapter of this audiobook because the narrator was so poor. Very long pauses between sentences. Forced cadence and dry inflections. Sorry Jack Garrett.
