Story
Eliza's parents are relentless - forcing her to constantly take extra courses to prepare for college and medical school. Sometimes, it feels like her entire life has already been planned out. Which is why she leaps at the chance to escape into a new virtual reality game, Awaken Online. What she wasn't expecting was to encounter a capricious god and his loyal "pet". Or to be chosen as this god's "avatar" within the game and forced to tackle a series of asinine quests. Yet she just can't shake the feeling that there is more to the irritating god than first meets the eye.

Barliona: a virtual world jam-packed with monsters, battles - and, predictably, players. Millions of them come to Barliona, looking forward to the things they can't get in real life: elves and magic, dragons and princesses, and unforgettable combat. The game has become so popular that players now choose to spend months online without returning home. In Barliona, anything goes: You can assault fellow players, level up, become a mythical hero, a wizard, or a legendary thief.

Story
After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim. Jim has been given an opportunity, and he'll do his best to take advantage of it.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

awesome and terrible!!!
this book is great and on par with the rest of the series. battle, romance, mystery, and intrigued all presented in a compelling narrative.
so what's not to like?
it ends in a maddening cliffhanger that will leave you ravenous for more.
and if you are an idiot who finished it two days after it came out (like me) you will be at the mercy of the evil overload ... er I mean author and his writing schedule.

Series just keeps getting better!!
I love this series and am amazed at how it continues to build on itself and... evolve into an epic story. Jason and his 2 friends are now traveling afar to finish the big quest and answer some questions about the old races that used to populate the AO world. His enemy Alex is unfortunately doing his best to keep up and take Jason down in AO and in the real world, if you read the previous book you know. Things continue to pick up speed if that’s possible in both worlds as alliances are made and the stage is being set for an epic fight not only to conquer AO, but to keep friends alive including artificial ones. It seems Jason is being attacked from all sides! Jason has his hands full between Alex, thugs, police, lawyers, government workers and an ever evolving AI named Alfred. It seems the future of the world and how humans will continue to exist is also hanging in the balance. Can Jason and friends do it?? Man the ending left me dying for more!! Get this BOOK!! Narration is amazing as always!!

A MUST read/listen right after book 2.
I really enjoyed this listen even if you have to dig in a chapter or so to get resolution on the book 2 cliffhanger. I think what I've enjoyed most so far up to this point are the implications of what may happen with real world <-> online interactions due to the interesting "features" of the VR system. I didn't really enjoy the Alex aspect in book 2 but I feel like it -just might- be going somewhere interesting for book 4... I'm not sure yet but I hope so as I haven't really liked that perspective up to this point. Really looking forward to the next book!
In my opinion, David Stifel continues to do a superb job narrating. I have no complaints on character voicing and variety!

Outstanding New Addition
I've been following this series since its start and I love the complex storyline that Travis (and David) are leading us through. From the high throne of a necromancer to the bloody streets of the paladin this world is constantly pushing the boundaries of these classes and what their motivations and actions really show about the players. I'm consistently impressed at how vivid both worlds have become in my mind, both the futuristic cities and the virtual world they escape to. Very excited to see how these characters continue to grow and develop in the future.

Ugh... could have been 40% as long
I have generally enjoyed this series, but this book.. wow. I finished listening, but only because I forced myself to finish it. The author repeats themselves so often, providing recaps from just 10 minutes earlier, and not just a few times. This book seems like the author had a word count to fill, and just said the same thing over again. Not restated, but actually says the same thing.
The content is light, shallow, and completely predictable. The main character is an idiot, not realizing something completely obvious, and then, after hours of acting like they didn't know what we, the listener, knew, they suddenly remember, but only when it's a critical plot point.
I'm also not a fan of the narrator. He may be good on some books, but this is the last book in this series I'll be buying.

uninspiring
so you read the first two and the cliff hanger has suckered you into the third but honestly it's a bad one, the book is centred around an online world so how does taking the main character away from that to deal with such a dilemma not hurt the story? well it's no drama to be honest, that plot point becomes barely an inconvenience as the third book runs itself into a state of boredom around chapter 9 I am struggling to finish it, even the pretty great narrator doesn't seem to be enjoying it this time around once you get past a significant death the book stalls.. there is no heart pounding pace, fun or adventure and plots where you think that could be injected are tidily planned out to avoid excitement. Edit: finally finished it, this book could have done with great swathes cut out of the middle, sections of Alex are terrible and the build up to get to the island is unnecessary. the latter third of the book isn't bad but ends on a damp squib rather than the fire cracker of the first two books.

Well crafted story
Narration can be a little monotone at times, but the story more than makes up for it. LitRPG books seem to tend to use the novelty as a crutch, but this is a genuinely complex and clever book with well developed characters.
Although the narration is poor, it gets marginally better book to book and is worth the investment to get used to it.

What a great premise
This here audio book is the perfect example as to why authors should research which narrator to use.. David Stifel needs to stick to narrating self help books and leave the voice "acting" to the professionals.. His foresight for the story is terrible, and his accents truly are horrendous..
This audio book would have gotten 5 stars if Jeff Hays or Nick Podehl had been brought in to do the narration..
