Story
It has been 13 years since the war started, the bombs were dropped, and the central states became a thing of the past. When the war ended, a wall was erected to divide the surviving states from those destroyed. I never expected to go beyond the wall, but unlike all the others who volunteered to go, I wasn't given a choice. With a dim knowledge of what I could do, the soldiers came for me. They took me beyond the wall where I learned that the truth is far more terrifying than I'd ever dreamed.

A chance encounter with Liam shatters her sheltered world, leaving her stunned and shaken by the strange feelings and emotions he arouses in her, feelings she never thought she would experience and that frighten her in their intensity.
Harboring a dark and deadly secret of his own, Liam knows that he should stay away from Sera, that he will only bring her more hurt, but he is irresistibly drawn to her and unable to deny himself the pleasure that only she can bring to him. More Romance than Vampires
This book sounded more exciting than it turned out to be. I'm one that really likes romance unless there's an intense suspenseful plot behind it. The book was decent just not my preference.
Serendipity or Sara is a college student who happens to meet Liam. He was far too controlling and alpha for my taste. The story is really about the two of them meeting and falling in love. There was dangerous situations sliced in but the suspense didn't keep me awake.
For listeners who adore a true love paranormal romance than this is the story.

WASN'T A BOOK I WOULD READ AGAIN
I desperately tried to like this book. Even my favorite narrator couldn't make this book enjoyable. The author tried to make the characters enjoyable but instead all of them were either annoying or extremely superficial. I don’t remember being that naive and gullible in college. The main heroine is extremely passive. She lets everyone, including her so called best friend, push her around and make decisions for her. She doesn't have an independent bone in her frail body. And if I was to hear the statement, “she look at them with her haughty expression” one more time during this story, I think I would have screamed. The hero was sad. I felt no depth from him at all. Even the side characters couldn't make me like this book.
This book has a lot of similarities with the Twilight Series. A lonely girl falls in love with gorgeous hot guy. Gorgeous hot is irresistible drawn to lonely girl. A gorgeous guy turns out to be a vampire and lonely girl doesn't care even if it means her life might be in danger. The only difference is that this book contains more detailed (and I do mean detailed) smex scenes. I wasn’t engaged while reading this book at all. Usually I can finish an audible book within a day; this book took me about two weeks.
I love Tavia Gilbert, as I have stated she is my favorite narrator but not even her brilliance at making a story come to life could save this book from being the bore that it was.
IMO, this book is a no for me.

Lacking story, excessive sexual content.
Narrator is great, the book.. not so much. Couldn't finish.
Definitely a more adult Twilight and not as developed. I'm not even halfway through the book and it's gotten to the point of erotica. Good God, give it a rest! I really don't need details of 3 sex scenes in one chapter. Not enough story, way too much sexual content. SMH

My first audio book did not disappoint!!
I downloaded this book to listen to it in my car during rush hour traffic on mornings and evenings. I very soon found myself addicted to it. The narrator is amazing and does an excellent job at telling the story. I will look for her again in other books. I loved the story line as I am particularly partial to vampires. I did find however that the heroine Sarah was a bit too weak at times and one or two parts of the plot dragged. However I still thoroughly enjoyed the story overall and I have already downloaded Book 2 of this series. I am very pleased with the Audible app and I think this has now become a must-have item for terrible traffic woes.

Surprise! This was a good story.
Now, this book really surprised me. I thought it was going to be just as the rest of the Vampire books. But, it was good. This could be due to Tavia Gilbert. She is really good. But, I think it was a combination of Ms. Gilbert and Brenda K Davies. Great job. Oh, just get the book and you will see.

Too much sex, in a bad way!
Couldn't finish it. Partly because of the narrator. Her performance of Sera sounded like a spoiled nasty little girl, who was always wining. The storyline is rushed and sometimes doesn't make sense. The worst of all was the sex scenes!!! As if author was given a task to fill in a specific amount of sex scenes, and she was just randomly inserting them. The description of those scenes was so vulgar, repetitive and long. I had to scroll past it all the time. The depiction of vampires is ridiculous! The supposedly vampire guys sounded more like werewolves to me, always being together like a pack and Liam being an alpha. The characters are bad, controversial and too childish. And finally the cover photo!!! Omg, I know it has nothing to do with this content of the book, but that guy looks like a zombie version of Jakob from Twilight. Looks too ugly to me!

It’s okay
Fine to pass the time but a little boring and a bit too syrupy. The main characters are cookie cutter copies of Edward and Bella - a shy, sweet, beautiful girl enthrals an impossibly handsome vampire with a self-loathing complex and they have an inexplicable attraction to each other that defies all reason. All the will they/won’t they is predictable and dull. No real plot twists and very little world building. The best thing about hidden species like vampires is to learn their secrets and how they work and revel in their abilities and these guys just seem like humans that don’t age, have a lot of sex and little else. No info about their physiology- they seem to have heartbeats but why, how do their bodies work, why can they reproduce, I know this is a chick lit paranormal romance but I also like things to be explained and make sense.
Also, the dominating male and the rather stupid wilting female that gets herself into scrapes because she is wilful and unthinking trope is getting old. I’d like to see a strong sexy female lead that kicks ass and saves the day and isn’t crushed by her possessive, controlling mate who is borderline abusive at times. The relationships in these types of books never seem equal, the guys has all the power and calls the shots and the girl is petulant and impulsive.
Love scenes are pretty good and Tavia Gilbert is the best thing about this book.
All in all it’s engaging enough and I’m considering the next book.

ok for a teen vamp book I guess, not Adult read
I think this is more of a teen vamp book, than a book aimed at an adult audience
most of the story was taken up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer story line.
jealous ex friends, frat parties, friends go and stay in a remote cabin during a snow storm
Bit too infantile for me.
the obligatory sex scenes very 16 year old in nature, wouldnt even qualify as vanilla tbh.
I'm going to try returning this book, I actually fell asleep to it.

The story is rushed and nonsensical. the plot lines aren't very well thought out so it feels like it's jumping from one thing to another without any thought, example... why would Jacob show up after so long when there's been no mention of him ever having been looking for her or even caring?! and from what I listened to (gave up around chapter 15) the vampire mythology is rubbish in the book.
I like this narrator, which is the only reason it got 2 stars overall, she did the best she could with what she had.

Love vampires but not a fan of this..... Like twilight but more sex I guess
Well I must say I got this thinking I would like it as I've listened to other vampire books with this notator, but I was let down. I'm not sure what I disliked the most I guess it was the story and the characters they all seem "whiney".
I the characters are all American college age and well act it not sure what I expected but I tried to give this book the full chance of listening to it all but was still left unhappy so thank goodness I was able to get my credit back with the audible guarantee.

Kathleen Kathleen Kathleen Kathlen.
I only got half way through the first chapter and managed to hear the name Kathleen 475 times. I started to hope Kathleen died early on in the book. The story might be great, I don't know... all I felt like I heard was "Kathleen" and some extra words. I don't give up easily on a book but I couldn't stand this one. Sorry. DNF

Would recomend you read it
Would you listen to Awakened again? Why?
It has a good vampire romance in it that doesn't feel like it is rushed and manages to continue the story without it feeling sectioned.
What other book might you compare Awakened to, and why?
It is slightly like Twilight but these days its hard to find something that doesn't relate to it, but it is good vampire story that also has a slight touch of the Vampire Diaries books in regard to the vampires in the books
