Publisher's Summary

Spencer and Ellie are just friends.

For Spencer, Ellie has always been his rock. His stability. The one who was there for him in his darkest hour. But he's never thought of her as more than a friend...until now. And that's just inconvenient, since he knows what she wants, right down to how she takes her coffee. It isn't him.

Ellie wants a stable life and a white picket fence, so she only dates guys who want that, too. She knows Spencer doesn't do relationships. And besides, high school is over, and he's about to be a US Marine. It could never work...or could it?

Since they want different things, they're just fine remaining friends. That is, until one night changes everything.

Back to You is a sweet, friends-to-lovers military romance, suitable for all ages. This story is adapted from its original version, written by the author.

Angsty, clean friends-to-lovers trope

*I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review*

Story: 3.5

The story was pretty good, although the angst was just about to the point that I had had it, when things finally resolved and I was able to enjoy the rest of the story. To her credit, the author allowed us plenty of time with the newly in-love couple, so that was good.

I really enjoyed the descriptions of boot camp and the terminology and descriptions of some of the experience. This author definitely knows her stuff and she's obviously comfortable writing about the military. I liked her mastery of the terminology and knowledge of the lifestyle, etc. it made her writing more authentic.

Narrators: 3.5 stars

The idea of double narrators to voice the two view-points worked really well and I loved the idea. I've only heard this in one other book and it worked there, as well. That said, these two more read it, than acted it. They definitely acted the dialogue, but I felt that the in-between stuff was simply read. That's not 100% the case in this book, but that is the overall feeling. I think that both narrators have great potential!

San Diego Marines

Good story. In depth description and attention to the Marines, which is informative and very interesting.
I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook; I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.

Growing up is hard to do

Spencer and Ellie have been best friends forever, and their dreams for the future seemed completely opposed to each other. Spencer wanted to join the Marines like his dad had before him. And Ellie wanted a stable home and life with a white picket fence.

The night before he ships out, Spencer suddenly realizes how much he's always loved Ellie, but he can't tell her. He can't ask her to give up on her dreams, nor does he want to give up on his own.

Can they find a middle ground? You'll have to read to find out.

Many of my family members have military ties. So, some of this hit home for me personally more than it may other readers. But I found it to be realistic, truthful, and it gave some insights to the quirkier parts of military life (like the whole lingo they've made up to replace common English).

My only issue with this audiobook was that Mr. Jalonen's audio quality was not nearly as good as Ms. Perron's. So, when the narrative switched between them, it was jarring. (He had a lot more room tone in his audio that created almost a hissing quality after the clean sounds in hers.) So, I did take off one star for the performance because of that.

But overall, I truly enjoyed the story!

Loved the story! The audio production was poor.

I loved this story. I liked the details about military life. It was so unique, unexpected, and made you proud of our service people. The story and the narrators were excellent!
Note: The production of this audio narrative had some flaws. Lines kept repeating. It sounded like someone was recording it with a tape recorder and would push stop and then press record again when they came back, forgetting exactly where they left off.
I received an ARC of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Enjoyed it

Sweet friends to more romance. As Spencer gets ready to go into the Marine Corp. he realizes that he has romantic feelings for long time best friend Ellie. Ellie is dating someone else but eventually it all works out for them. It is a fun ride to see how it all plays out. I also liked the conversation Spencer finally has with his dad which opens his eyes to trying a relationship with Ellie as well as restoring the father/son relationship.

cute

this was such a sweet story. I'm not usually a fan of books in the younger age group, but it was a sweet story no matter the age. I liked the relationships besides the one with the 2 main characters

there was some production quality issues. it needed another round of editing because there were several instances of the same line being read twice. I'm usually not a big fan of the dual naration like this (each reading an entire chapter and doing all voices) but this one wasn't bad. the voice of ellie definitely sounds young, but worked for this part.

Sweet military romance

I was given a copy of this audio book for an honest review. This sweet, military romance story is well written & narrated beautifully. Off the charts chemistry and burn you to the ground feels. God this book, it will grab your heart and squeeze and not let go. It hit me straight in my feels and had me laughing, crying, mad, and swooning all at the same time. This is book #1 in the “San Diego Marines” series. I can’t wait to read/listen to Matt & Olivia’s continued story in book #2.
