Publisher's Summary

No body. No crime. No time. Can you ever escape your past?

Fresh out of prison, Jess Strickland has just six months’ probation to serve until she's free to get on with the life she left behind four years ago.

With few options available, Jess takes a job at Bright’s, an industrial laundry company, alongside other ex-cons, all eager to keep their noses clean.

Here she finds an ally in Karla, but soon learns her new boss, Terry, is not all he seems.

Realising she’s no safer on the outside, Jess refuses to be a victim any longer.

How far will she go to avoid going back to prison?

Great Book

Another great listen by the author. The story kept me interested and wanting to find out what happened next. The performance was good but being able to hear her swallow.

Enjoyable

This is the first book of Gemma Rogers that I have read or listened to. I liked the plot and the characterisation I notice a few reviewers found the narrator a bit off putting but I did not find this to th be the case. The voice of the story is the 1st person singular and the protagonist is a 22 year old girl. The narrator captures the voice of a 22 year old perfectly and also the way a 22 year old girl would imitate the male voices of the sleazy Terry and Barry etc. I also found it helpful to increase narration speed to 1.4x

awful narration

the concept of the story as brilliant, the narration made me cringe and totally ruined it for me. but I'm going to listen to more books by this author with different narrators

the best yet

having listened to all of Gemma's books this one is definitely my favourite. A really great story well written Gemma's books keep getting better.
My only criticism is the narrator as in previous book the babysitter some of her voices for other characters are not very good and are quite grating . But all in all a great listen. Looking forward to Gemma's next look .

Another great audit book from Gemma Rogers!

This author has become one of my favourites. I don't know how it happens, but the story draws you in and becomes addictive .. At first, I thought the narrator would ruin it for me as I can be quite picky on who I listen to. Although, it fit the characters perfectly. Love it!

First I thought I wasn't going to like as the narration. But stick with it.

Used the apps speed changer

I struggled with the narrator, so increased the speed by .50
Worked a treat!
I've listened to the author's other books, which are easy going and ideal to follow whilst working.
