Publisher's Summary

Shannon Holmes, the bestselling author of B-More Careful, delivers a wild adventure on the streets of the Badlands, one of the toughest and poorest communities in Philadelphia.

Bad Girlz takes listeners into the mysterious and often dangerous lives of young women who turn to the streets and strip clubs as a means of survival. These are girls who, along the way, suffer bad breaks and find themselves ripe for exploitation by men and women who pretend to be their saviors.

Tender and Goldie are taken under wing by Kat, a veteran stripper who enjoys the life and the risks she must take to stay in the mix of the sex trade. Both of these young and beautiful girls end up in dire straits and are in need of Kat's help for the same reasons: They lack the love and support that most of us expect from our homes and our communities. Where they live, illegal money is often the only money to be made, and the difference between the law and the outlaw is tough to discern.

Holmes tells a pause-resisting story of sex, money, and murder in the name of survival and reveals the many ways in which good girls - as they try to get by in desperate situations - become Bad Girlz.

Great story, bad performance

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It seems as if this is the first time the narrator performed and it seemed as if she was either getting tired and her sentences seemed as if there were run-on's. They should have taken more breaks or read the book a few times before executing this task. You can tell she is an amateur.

I enjoyed this book

I hated Cat character , however it's crazy cause that's how some women are they jealous hearted and can't stand to be out done by anyone. Sad that we as women can't help each other with out scandal in our hearts .

GOOD STORY! AWFUL NARRATOR!!!

The story was decent but I found myself correcting Erica Peeples out loud. She mispronounced the most simplest words. Had me cussing 🤬. She was so annoying!

The narrator was trash

The story was good, however the narrator should at least be able to read, so many mispronounced words it was sad..

Great book terrible narrator!

If the narrator could read I would I have throughly enjoyed the book. Kat was an awful person! Poor Tender was young, sweet and oh so naive. Goldie was a cursed soul. Great job Shannon Holmes I love your work!

Narration Kills the Story

I think I might've liked this book more if someone else was reading it, The narration is bad. There's long, odd pauses, countless mispronounced words, and zero effort to give the characters some sense of personality. If it wasn't free, I would be asking for a refund. I'm excited to see that Nicole Small narrates the second book in this series. I am finishing the first book just to see if things get better when the narration improves.

Great Story

The book was good from start to finish. The Narrator NEEDS to find a NEW PROFESSION. She could BARELY pronounce the words read. I found myself MENTALLY CORRECTING HER WORDS WITH A RED PEN, and SMH

Good but needs less characters, focus deeply on a couple instead

Tonya’s mom beats her for dating before she’s an adult. Ironically this is because she doesn’t want her to be a teen mom like created Tonya. Pete’s the secretly creepy step father and pushover string bean husband to big, bad Veronica. When he takes advantage of T, he does so via PCP he offers as weed instead of wet. Once he dips, the mom kicks Tonya out for “ruining” her marriage. Super ironically, this leaves innocent Tonya to turn tricks for a couch to sleep on until she becomes a stripper.

In Philly’s heroin-laced badlands, strippers creatively wear construction worker outfit. A girl’s Christian mother leads her into the arm’s of a felon and cigarette burned path. One of their sweet lil boys is teased about his mother’s profession. There are club fights over stealing, gun toting over pimping, Miami trip splurging. Flight anxiety is a nice humanizing piece and as is what happens with Goldie later though I wish her drug use and Tinder’s stripping had more vivid scenes instead of summaries.

Good Listen

This book was a good listen but the title should have been something named else; Kat was the only bad girl.
