Story
A Pound of Cure was written by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon, who has identified a style of eating that can bring about the same metabolic changes seen after gastric bypass surgery. The shifts in your metabolism that block hunger and prevent weight-loss plateaus after surgery can be obtained by focusing your diet on nutrient-rich foods like fruits and vegetables. The style of eating outlined shows you how to use food to control hunger, eliminate cravings, and prevent the slowdown in your metabolism that plagues typical starvation diets.

I’m missing out on my life. What’s wrong with me? If that’s ever crossed your mind, and if you know there’s more to life than what you’ve been living, this audiobook is for you. It sucks to acknowledge that you are what’s keeping you from the life you want. You sacrifice what you want most for what you want in the moment. You know everything you’re supposed to do, and yet you feel stuck - limited by your past, overwhelmed by your future - in a purgatory of your own behavior.

Publisher's Summary
Weight-loss surgery is stomach surgery, not brain surgery.
Did you know that 40 percent of bariatric surgery patients regain weight within five years of having weight-loss surgery? When it comes to long-term weight-loss surgery success, you've got to get a handle on your emotions and motivation. The food will always be there, and it's not about knowing what to eat, but instead about transforming your relationship with food. This is why conquering your mind-set is essential. If you are not in the right headspace, you can slide backward and enter the danger zone of regaining weight.
Unfortunately, the cravings, emotional impulses, and habits to eat whatever and whenever still pop up after surgery. Even with the knowledge of what to eat, you will also need to learn how to manage yourself and your mind-set around food. Fancy meal plans won't help you if you haven't tackled the most difficult part of having weight-loss surgery: your brain!
After investing so much time to get your body where you want it, is having the wrong mind-set worth the risk of sabotaging all you've worked hard to achieve?
In Bariatric Mindset Success, you will be guided by Kristin, a professional psychotherapist and a successful gastric sleeve post-op patient, through her most coveted weight-loss surgery success strategies. She'll guide you through the weight-loss surgery basics as well as advanced mind-set, motivation, and emotional techniques to help you stay focused and on track through the ups and downs of life. You'll gain practical tools and techniques to create lifestyle habits that keep you focused on weight-loss surgery success for life, not just in the short term. Also, she provides tools to handle friendships and relationships after weight-loss surgery in addition to giving you a compass for living your best life, beyond the weight loss.

incredibly helpful and informative book. I am almost a year postop and this book has provided great tips and tools to help me succeed on my weight loss journey.
the narrator was great. most of the audible stories seem to have not so great narrators. this narrator was very engaging and lively. I felt like she was just talking and not reading.

***LIFE-CHANGER***
Amazing book, a true life-changing read! Kristin has the credentials, first-hand experience, and relatable knowledge! Surgery is no quick fix... yes, you can lose a lot of weight but surgery does not fix your brain's response to food, and the reasons that you gained weight in the first place. Sometimes post-op patients have the sensation of being STUCK between feeling physically full and mentally/emotionally left unsatisfied within a meal. This is a dark place to be.
This book gives you tools and techniques that dig deeper into the emotional side of your behaviors, and why you react instead of respond to life-stressors, addictions, and other emotionally tied interactions with life. Emotional/Mental health after surgery is very important to your bariatric success. If you are STUCK, this book addresses key points to get you out of old patterns and behaviors and onto a happy, joyous, and free new you!

The author has a remarkable and unique insight into the mindset and habits of people who go down the road of Bariatric surgery. She is both a practicing therapist and a post Bariatric patient. Particularly helpful chapters on emotional eating and how to change your mindset so the success and maintenance of your surgery is guaranteed. Well written and researched. repeat repeat.. re... bored!
I don't feel this book is good value for money at all. The narration was stilted, the content repetitive and some sentences and paragraphs are literally read twice. It is really just a load of other peoples quotes one after the other. Its a shame as I was expecting real tools and advice in this book, not meditation techniques.
