Publisher's Summary

A derelict warship, ancient but still alive. A small team of humans fighting for all humanity.

Built for a time when the races were just finding their way to the stars, finding that they could dominate others. The galactic conquests created the arms race and the ancients, the Progenitors had to protect their own. They built a ship to drive the others away.

It worked. And it didn't. The Progenitors abandoned the galaxy to the newcomers, leaving relics behind as monuments to their failure.

Humanity spread to the stars and ran headlong into the established races. A new war begins, and no one conducts war better than humanity except for the Blaze Collective.

The two go head-to-head while humanity frantically searches for something to give them an advantage. Ancient technology. The derelicts scattered across the galaxy. Gutted and useless.

Except for one, hidden in plain sight, close to Earth. Major Declan Payne takes his team aboard to find that the ship is no derelict, and it needs him as much as humanity needs it.

Great start to this series!

I tried reading Craigs earlier book but haven’t liked them that much. But this was really good and I guess Craigs storytelling and characters has become great. It has the humor and great action a great series needs and I’m looking forward to the next book. Buy the way I really like Shawn Comptons as a narrator.

Melodramatic

Narration is a bit melodramatic.
Plot is canned, what we’ve heard before. Nothing particularly engaging, but has the makings of a passable B movie.

Good listen good book

I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. The book moved well and the story was interesting. It’s similar to some other books I’ve read, but unique.

Astonishingly uncreative sci-fi

Not much to enjoy here. It's kinda like listening to the military industrial complex fantasize about space being exactly like a modern-times military campaign. All the time. The protagonists, who are essentially indistinguishable from one another besides their rank and specialty within the team, are given a Deus Ex Machina plot device in the first few chapters and spend the rest of the book "kicking butt" in almost-entirely-undescribed uncharted space. Did I mention that the characters have basically no personalities beyond their military rank? Military characters are good, civilian characters are bad. Pretty easy. The book ends with the addition of a former bikini model to the team as one of the former team members gets his own team. I'm not sure why so much attention was given to that detail, but the author definitely seems to want to make sure the reader understands that she is a former bikini model. That's probably a pretty on-the-nose finish for this book. No more for me, please.

Cheesy rip-off of Expeditionary Force

Hard to listen to. Such an obvious rip-off, I can't believe the author had the gall. Recommend against buying this book.

Think Craig Alan’s Expeditionary Force… except poorly written

This is a great book if you just want some background noise… or if have insomnia and need a sleep aid.

I can't tell if its the narrator or story

This book seems like it could be good but I'm just not getting into it. Sometimes it seems like it is the writing but I don't care for the narrator.

Kinda boring

Lukewarm story without inspiring twists. Dialogues are kinda fun. Won’t bother with the rest of the series.

Lightweight novella

Well performed and with a humorous light touch. not enough skuldugggery and treasonous betrayal.
All very one dimensional.
Nice but somehow disappointing.
