Story
The battlefields of the 31st century are commanded by the BattleMech, 12-meter-tall, 100-ton bipedal engines of destruction. Fought by MechWarriors, commanded by neo-feudal officers, owned by national governments and band of mercenaries, these ’Mechs make every other ground combat vehicle obsolete. This is the warfare of fusion-powered giants. This is BattleTech.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Skeletal, but hits the main points
Overall a reasonable-to-poor adaptation of the Blood of Kerensky series.
Battletech fans who are familiar with the history of the series should have relatively little trouble following the major arcs of the novels, but may be surprised by the extreme lengths the abridging editor went to remove any and all build up to the critical events of the book. As it stands, the abridging transforms the novel into a sort of "click-bait slideshow" style of retelling of the clan invasion.
Quick examples might include (possible spoilers); The Battle of Twycross, or as it is presented in this retelling: the story of Kai Allard Liao inexplicably self-destructing his own mech- oh wait there's a clan invasion? The Battle of Wolcott, or as it is presented here: Smoke Jaguar commander foiled by strips of foil, commits unprovoked suicide in response. It had turned out that the entire affair was the result of a ritual combat (batchall), but all references were cut, leaving only the end results. Even the Battle of Tukayyid did little more than establish the presence of a few key characters (Focht, Phelan Kell, Ulric), have one token "battle" in which one mech blindsided another as it attempted to run past, then it was all over. Nothing concerning the details of any of the battles, no lance/cluster sized combat, not even a introduction to the strategies of the players. The reader might not even have realised the battle for Tukayyid had begun until it ended.
TLDR: A sort of "Blood of Kerensky" Cliff-notes. The audibook covers the "effects" but none of the "causes". Not recommended in this form. I spent as much time on the sarna battletech wiki as I did listening, trying to fill in the glaring holes cut into the piece. Eventually bought the paperbacks and "read-along".

The Clans first invasion
Very nice intro into the first attack of the clans into the inner sphere. Because this book covers almost all of known space there are a lot of players to keep track of. The voice acting is well done but the extra sounds and effects were a bit much. If you are interested in Battletech or would just like a fun romp into a new Universe take a listen!

Excellant audio effects
The voices and audio effects were excellant. My only complaint is that these are abridged, and I felt that some of the things that were taken out of the books could leave people new to the series a little confused. For example, the complete absence of Takasi Kurita form the books, and some of the scenes that I felt really added to the enmity between Phelan and Vlad.

Scam
I'm glad I read the critical review before buying, I have read this series and if it is abridged to this extent, there is no point in spending money on this. Great job Scamazon.

Ok, but jumps around a lot.
After listening to the Death Stalker series, I thought I'd try the Battle Tech ones. As a fan of the RPG system, I found the stories interesting but it did tend to jump around a lot and I kept loosing track of where I was. It seems like these stories are abridged so maybe that is the reason for the problem.

Excelent story, poor audio effects
Where does Battletech Collection I rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Its ok.
What did you like best about this story?
It is a pretty funny action story, fast paced and full of giant robot mechs. Whats not to like.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was excelent, but the audio effects distracted me. At some points it were laud enough to drown the narrator. The book is able to stand on its own, and dos not need fake laser sounds.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I like it. A good escapist fiction story with giant mechs.
Any additional comments?
Unfortunatly its abreviated. A full version would be excelent. And without the horrible audio effects.
