Critic Reviews

"Elegant storytelling at its best; poetic and touching. Like all good escapism it takes you to another place and another time...the gentleness and authenticity of Rosamund Pilcher, with its strong sense of place, family, and friendship. What a winning combination!" (Veronica Henry, author of The Long Weekend)

Ok

Found it a bit boring and dragged out at times.
Wasn't keen on the narrators impression of the characters especially the old man. Felt like it just went on far too long.

Be swept away to sunny and stormy times

What did you like most about Bay of Secrets?

The various characters and the change from past to present. The scenery and atmosphere were beautifully portrayed without going over the top. This story has me wanting to go on a holiday by the coast.

Which character – as performed by Sandra Duncan – was your favourite?

Tom and Vivienne ... the parents of Ruby.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Ruby's parents were in the crash..when ruby returned to the family home...when sister Julia was taken to the convent....when the family were struggling in Spain .... When sister Julia was visited by her family....when ruby was playing her music

Any additional comments?

There are some wonderful characters and it's read so well by Sandra Duncan . I love listening to her read and she captures accents and feelings so well, I often replayed certain sentences when listening to the book as I liked the way she is able to portray so much warmth and feeling in one sentence.

Narrator

Narrator lacking in breadth of voices to enunciate this wonderful story to full effect. Nonetheless a powerful story.

Wonderful

Couldn’t put it down, beautiful descriptive prose. Really wanted to know the end but sorry now that I have finished it. Will certainly read it again. Rosanna Ley presented a difficult and emotive subject with sensitive authority.

I really did not enjoy this book

I didn't enjoy this book. I found it frustrating, dragging and boring. I have listened other books of this author and I liked them but this one... eh...
All the characters sounded like 60 or 70 years old people and I had to remind myself that some of them where actually in their 30s...
I found the characters really annoying... it takes about 13 chapters for the main character to get to an obvious conclusion... and about half of the chapter to jump from hating a guy to fall in love with him...
Well... I don't think I'll be buying any more books of this author.

Outstanding

This is the second of Rosanna Key’s books I have listened to and I am completely hooked, you can’t stop listening and the story lines are deep and captivating, one of the best writers I’ve listen to in a long time.
