Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. There's nothing like being blackmailed by a dead man to really bring a group of cons together. And what a group we are: a hacker, a thief, a con artist, a thug, and a Federal agent with an ax to grind. Publisher's Summary
When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.
Former Special Forces medical sergeant Russell “Red” McKinley knows a thing or two about wounds, like the fact some can take a lifetime to heal, if they heal at all. The scars Red carries run deep, and living with PTSD often means battling the memories of his past. Injuries he received while working an executive protection case with fellow Kings and co-owners of Four Kings Security have once again forced past heartaches to the surface, but Red is determined not to let it derail his blossoming romance with sweet and sexy fashion photographer Lazarus Galanos.
Laz can’t deny there’s something special developing between him and Red, but Laz has wounds of his own. He’s hesitant to jump into a new relationship after his recent explosive breakup. Experience has taught Laz to doubt his judgement when it comes to men. Guys who seem too good to be true usually are, and no one appears more perfect than Red.
When an attempt is made on Laz’s life, Red is determined to keep him safe. Laz may not be a client, and Red is still off duty, but Laz is one of their own, and nothing means more to the Kings than family. While an investigation is underway, Red and Laz are growing closer, but can they find a way to help each other heal and take a chance on love, or will their fears and insecurities cost them more than their future together?

Sweet like pineapple 🍍
Be still my heart, indeed. This one is a sweet story featuring Red and Laz. I’d strongly suggest reading the first book Love in Spades before this one, as the story carries on from the first one to this. Red & Laz’s sizzling chemistry started in Love in Spades and in this book, we get to see their process of falling in love.
What I love most about this book is that there’s enough witty banter, sense of camaraderie and strong bond of brotherhood. Charlie also touches on realities of PTSD and how the Red and Laz adjust to the challenges and cope with it. There’s also the action sequences that, I believe, are always a different & richer experience on audio than on the ebooks.
It’s another 5-star for Charlie Cochet & Greg Boudreaux.
I’m off to listen to Lucky & Mason’s book now.

Next card up - Red of Hearts!
I absolutely loved the narration and story! Red is such a sweetheart, but fierce when he needs to be.
Red and Laz met earlier when Red was part of the security for Colton (Love in Spades), so while this is a standalone, it does refer to book 1 a few times. Honestly, to get the most out of this book I would highly recommend the highly enjoyable book 1, it's really, really good!
Anyway, back to Red and Laz - despite their obvious connection, Laz shies away from Red once he's recovered from his injuries, leaving Red to wonder what happened. They reconnect and Red ends up protecting Laz from attempts on his (Laz's) life. Both men have issues that they're dealing with - Red has PTSD and Laz has been abused, but together they deal with their demons. The other characters are fun, especially Ace and they make up the family both men need to help them heal.
As usual, Greg Boudreaux does a wonderful job bring each character feel like someone you want to meet and hang with. He injects his performances with so much warmth, pain, happiness, heat or any expressed emotion that I sometimes forget that I'm listening to fiction :)
Loved listening to Greg and I really enjoyed the story. Definitely recommend.

Be Still My Heart
Update to review after listening to the Audiobook...
Audio - Greg Boudreaux is Amazing. I Loved this narration. He does such a fantastic job with every book he is given and this one was no different. His voices for Laz and Red were great, totally perfect for each character. And I cannot wait until we get Mason and Lucky's book next too..
I Love this author and really don’t think it’s even possible that they could write a “bad” book. This book was Awesome, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first book in the series. You should definitely for sure read book one “Love in Spades” before you take a crack at this book though because Colton and Ace’s book is hilariously great as well; and you will get to know and learn some details from that book that will lead you right into this one.
I love all of the Kings we’ve met so far. I’m glad we get to see bits and pieces of each of them in all of these books because learning about them and their pasts and how their lives are so entwined together is so much fun to see, they all are amazing men. This is definitely 100% becoming one of my new favorite series and can see myself coming back and re-reading these books numerous times in the future.
And…. OH. MY. GAWWWDD… Before I even get into these main characters can I just mention… Spencer and Quinn… If you don’t know who they are run and Grab the book “Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts” it’s a really funny and cute short book by this same author. I’ve read and listened to that book more times than I can even go back and count. But… They are mentioned in this book. And when I saw that I Totally kind of freaked out more than a bit... I just love them so much and I’ve always hoped we would get to see more of them at some point… Well… Wish Granted….
Red and Laz….
This book is named perfectly “Be Still my Heart” because omg I felt myself actually thinking that a few times while reading this book. Laz and Red are completely perfect for each other and have crazy hot chemistry together. It’s almost a love at first sight with them, they just have that kind of connection to each other. And wow, ok, Laz’s dirty talking when he and Red got together was completely unexpected and ridiculously hot in this book. The main stumbling block they both seem to have though is Trust. Trust is hard for the two of them because of past relationships and being hurt. Laz is dealing with the repercussions from a previous relationship that we actually see the demise of in book one. And Red is dealing with previous lovers not being able to handle his PTSD and his strong bond to the other kings. I think as long as they can get past all of that and communicate their feelings together it will be smooth sailing from then on. I really liked the storyline and plot we get in this book and I was kind of surprised and taken aback with the ending of this book, I wasn’t really expecting it to play out the way it did so that was a good little twist for the author to throw in.
I am completely and totally ready for the next book in the series and cannot wait to see who is next up, and I honestly don’t really care whose book it is. I just want more of these Kings.

Good Story
Great listen with plenty of action, sexy times and a tiny bit of drama. Laz and Red are so cute. I can just picture Red as this huge protector taking care of Laz. I especially love the brotherhood between the Kings. Mason is hilarious. His and Colton's story was pretty good. Loved it.
This is maybe my fourth or fifth time hearing a narration by Greg Boudreaux's . I have to say that he has been consistent in each performance and is fast becoming one of my favorites.
I am very much enjoying this series and can't wait to listen to the next two books. It looks like Lucky and Mason is next and if their behavior towards one another in this book is anything to go by it will be an explosive listen.

Another Winner for Cochet & Boudreaux
Laz, a fashion photographer, and Red, from Four Kings Security meet at a party where the Kings are providing security, when Red saves Laz's life, after Laz's boyfriend knocks him on the head and into a pool. Despite the draw between the two men, they keep their distance, until Ace, Mason, Lucky and King get involved. Laz and Red run into each other during a photo shoot on the beach, and while there, Laz ends up the target for a shooter. When Red starts providing protection for Laz, the two start to grow closer. But can Laz deal with Red's PTSD from the war? And can Red deal with Laz's past as well?
This book had to be one of my absolute favorites of the series, and Red is my absolute favorite character! It is nice to see a character that is pansexual that is written so respectfully and beautifully. Its nice to show an accurate depiction of a pansexual relationship, that a person is truly capable of loving someone despite what their gender is!
The narration is absolutely perfect! Greg Boudreaux did such an amazing performance with these men, bringing life into their words!
Great continuation of the series!!

Sweet and sexy!
I am loving this series so much! We met both Red and Laz in book one - Red is one of the Four Kings and was a medic in the Special Forces. Laz is one of Colton’s best friends and in book 1 we saw Laz with a very controlling boyfriend who pushed him in such a way that he hit his head and fell into the swimming pool unconscious. If it wasn’t for Red saving him he would have drowned. The connection between the guys was instant and I’ve been itching to hear their story ever since and this book didn’t disappoint!
In this book Laz becomes the target of a shooter and is instantly put under Four Kings protection while they find out who the shooter is and why they’re targeting Laz. I love how much this series brings all the Four Kings main players into every book so you learn more about their stories and become more invested in their characters too and not just the two MC’s. All the guys are amazing and loveable in their own ways. Red and Laz’s connection felt so natural and right and you could feel the love they have for each other jumping off the page. Both men have their own demons to face, Red with his PTSD and Laz from being assaulted, but the love and support they give each other as they battle their pasts is beautiful and helps them start to heal. I love this author, the humour in her books and I adore this series, roll on book 3!!
Greg Boudreaux was a perfect narrator for this book. All the characters have their own unique voices and the depth of emotion he gives Red and Laz is amazing.
I received an arc of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review

Another stunning story by Charlie Cochet, I think I found my it couple of the series with the MC's in this book. Red and Las are just the cutest couple ever, Red is the biggest sweetheart and Las is just so lovable. And Ms. Cochet is a sneaky little sneak with her twists on the enemy of her stories😜....

Action and romance
Exciting plot, action, lots of romance, good character development, a bit of angst but not too much. Greg Boudreaux give a great performance. I love his accents for Mason and Lucky (not our main characters, but it’s great that he puts forth great effort into even the non-lead roles!)

Performance raised my appreciation of the story
I just finished listening to the audiobook narrated by Greg Boudreaux and went to Goodreads to update my date read information. I was shocked that I had only given the book a three star rating when I read it in 2018. Then when I read through what I had written it was all still basically true except for one thing. Boudreaux’s performance obviously made Laz seem much more sympathetic than my just reading the words. His voicing of the characters and particularly Red’s thoughts made the book come alive which made Laz more likable. The other criticism re the villain, which again, I figured out immediately (it’s been a while since I read the book so I wasn’t quite sure of the story.) and the actions and motivations still holds as well as the idiocy of the crisis point. But I’m raising my rating to four stars thanks to the audiobook performance.**

Too much annoying drama
I enjoyed the first book in this series so much more. This probably would have been a solid 3 stars, but the screeching drama and hissy fits got way too annoying.

Be Still My Heart is such a perfect title.
I must confess that I had not listened to book 1 before listening to Be Still My Heart. It does not affect the story at all but maybe I would have understood the who each of the Kings were. This in no way interfered with my enjoyment of this book. The combination of Charlie Cochet and Greg Boudreaux is heavenly. Reds description of the events causing his PTSD with the emotions proved by Greg Boudreauxs narration brought tears to my eyes. I was pleasantly surprised that there was not as much angst as I thought there would be. Red becomes a bodyguard to Laz after there is a threat to his life. Because of this they live together and their romance naturally develops. Mixed into this is the investigation into who wants to kill Laz. These two strands compliment eachother so well. The twist at the end is great. I also liked how the parings for next books are set up in the epilogue.
The narration by Greg Boudreau is masterful. Each character is so distinctive, not only through their unique voices but their personalities and spirit. I did not want to stop listening until the end of the story. I can not wait for the audiobook for book three.

Another great story!
This is another great story in the Four Kings Security series. Once again there is danger, drama, laughs, hot sex, and sweet connections. There are also plenty of twists and turns in the mystery to keep you guessing. The two MCs have their share of insecurity, communication issues, and prior hurts that they need to overcome if they want to be together.
The narration is great. Good accents and a variety of voices for the different characters.
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and have voluntarily left this honest review.

Steamy sequel
Red is a sweetheart and Laz is potty mouth. So much dirty talk. These two had chemistry in the first book and now Laz's life is in danger things really kick off between them.
Excellent narration.

Red & Laz's Story, Great Performance by Boudreaux
Be Still My Heart is Red and Laz’s story, and the second in Charlie Cochet’s Four Kings Security series. Since I did this whole series out of order I can guarantee, this is truly a standalone series. Grab any one of these books and dive right in - you’ll be glad you did.
Watching these big, burly, slightly damaged guys find their mates has been an extremely enjoyable experience for me. Hey, hunky bodyguards? It’s always a winner. Plus, nobody can do a love connection quite like Charlie Cochet. She adds in enough action, drama, and humor and it’s all balanced perfectly. The stories are creative and well written, and the romances work!
Narrated by Greg Boudreaux, his performance throughout the entire series has been excellent. He raises the bar with his wonderful accents, and creates so many different voices for the extensive variety of characters Ms. Cochet puts forth in these books. One of my top go-to narrators, Mr. Boudreaux’s performance is perfect.

I want a Red!!
What a great story, there is so much going on and it’s very fast paced.
Greg does an awesome job of narrating and even with so many characters is very easy to understand who is who.
I absolutely loved Red, he has his issues but is a big teddy bear, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for Laz.
Also great to get some more banter from Ace, he’s by favourite King so far.

Fantastic, Adorable, Hot! A must listen!
The second book in the Four King's series is just as good as the first, even more cuteness with Laz and Red together.
Both have history and issues that they bring with them into the situation they find themselves in and it's all dealt with so well by the MC's and the supporting characters. The Kings are just as strong and dependable, protecting Laz from a threat against his life with the positive of giving Red and Laz a chance and reason to spend time together.
I love the world's that Charlie builds. It's so easy to fall into and escape into the world she had created for her characters. I laugh, worry, cry and swoon throughout the story right along with Laz and Red.
Greg is fantastic, again giving a voice to two brilliant characters and enthralling me with the story and events going on through the book. I love listening to him, it's easy to tell who's character he's voice with the difference he gives them, and when he speaks Lucky with the Spanish accent, it sounds sooo good. I can't wait for Lucky's book.
I cannot recommend this book and series enough! It's so very enjoyable, and easy to lose yourself to the characters and their love story.

Love these guys
After getting a taste of Red and Laz in the previous book I couldn't wait to get started on their story and promptly hit play as soon as I could download it. This book didn't let me down. Red is the epitome of big protective strong teddy bear and Laz was the perfect sweet loving counter part for him. I was so happy to see these 2 together. There were some great twists and turns at the end and never a dull moment! I loved getting to see all the other guys from Kings again too and can't wait for the next one to come out!

Red and Laz is the second book in the King series. We get to know both MCs and the other Kings. It a great to listen to audible with the humour you enjoy from this author .Greg Boudreaux really gave it depth and his sense of fun did this justice.

Oh my, what a ride! Be still my heart indeed!
I loved the first book in this series and the second did not disappoint! This book follows on from the first and I’d recommend reading them in order. Red and Laz are drawn together in book 1 and in this book they are explosive. Laz’s life is threatened so therefore the Kings get involved. Chaos, drama, and some humour thrown in and you have a compelling story of the “King of Hearts” finding love.
I love Laz’s sass and Red’s big heart, they are a wonderful couple. Charlie writes such wonderful, damaged but totally swoon worthy characters and these two are no exception. A highly recommend series and I look forward to Book 3, Join the Club to see what happens next with Lucky and Mason as I know its going to be explosive.
Thanks for reading 📚!

Be still my heart!
Can I start by saying how awesome the narrator Greg Boudreaux is!! The whole cast of male and female characters each have a very different voice. You never have to wonder which character is speaking. His accents and female voices are faultless and brilliant. Was super impressed. Certainly added value to this action packed, sweet and sexy hot gay romance. Loving this series. Looking forward to Lucky and Mason's story.
