Publisher's Summary

What do you get when you mix one feisty sprite of a woman with one burly, sexy man and lots of patience, devotion, and peanut butter cups?

Cassidy Hackett knows all about life's hard knocks. After growing up in foster care, her only family is her friend Effie, who sees past Cassie's sarcasm to the heart she shields so carefully.

But now Effie is mated to a cougar shifter, and Cassie feels left behind. When a fateful decision to drown her sorrows one night leaves her broken and scarred, she's almost ready to give up on life.

Almost.

Grizzly shifter Cash Rochon loves his family and his job. But it feels like he's been searching forever for his mate - that special woman meant only for him.

When he hears about a human recuperating from a terrible accident at a relative's house, he's glad to help out. Little does he know that his greatest wish is about to be answered in a way he never expected.

Cassidy needs to heal inside and out, and it won't be easy. The one thing that keeps her going - not that she would ever admit it - is Cash, who refuses to give up on her.

He's willing to do whatever it takes to coax his sharp-tongued pixie out of her shell - even indulge her junk food habit. Cash wants nothing more than to show her the love she's always needed. But after a lifetime of wearing emotional armor, is Cassie ready to lower her guard?

Love this story!

I am a fan of Moxie North's Pacific Northwest Bear series and was a little nervous to listen to this book because Cash and Cassie are my favorite characters and I didn't want to be disappointed if the narrator didn't do justice to them. My fears were groundless as Angela Dawes does an amazing job bringing all the characters in the story to life. I enjoyed every minute and it will definitely be on my list to listen to again.

Author Not For Me

What did you like best about Bearly Healed? What did you like least?

I can't seem to get started or stay with started. The few chapters I tried are too dark for me or the heroine is too dark for me. I just don't have the time to get to the cool hero!

What was most disappointing about Moxie North’s story?

I have over 150 new listens I have to hear, as I buy in blocks, and this story just didn't keep me interested enough to stay at it. I like humor e.g. Rachel Gibson or Julie James

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have over 100 reads by Ms Dawe, whom I love and purchased this story due to reviews.

Like a warm hug

This book was exactly what I needed. I love how nurturing Cash is! Often, the protective alpha shifter trope lends itself to unhealthy and controlling relationships. This book doesn't go there. Instead, the crux of the love story is Cassidy's struggle to trust that a man who is attracted to her physically can also be genuine, caring, and kind. (Initially, she also has issues believing in his physical attraction, due to some injuries that she sustained in a car accident.)
I appreciate that there is minimal shifter drama in this story. I get a bit tired of the posturing and emotional dysfunction that so often accompanies stories with inter-clan blood feuds or crazy rivals who want to claim one member of a newly mated pair, despite the pair being true mates. Not that there aren't interesting ways to write those plots. But it is nice to find an author who comes up with other ways of creating plot tension!
I wish Audible would get the rest of this series! And I wouldn't mind listening to Moxie's other books, either. Bearly Healed apparently has crossover characters from her couger series. I guess I'll have to keep checking back to see if Audible ever expands their offerings from Moxie North.

Eh

Setting: Pacific Northwest Contemporary
Genre: Erotic romance / shifter romance

When her best friend Effie got married (book 1 of the Pacific Northwest Cougars), Cassidy treated herself to a great big drunken pity party. Because allowing one’s Best friend to be happy is just too unselfish. This led to another drunk person driving her home, which led to an accident, which cut short Effie & Dax’s wedding trip, from what I understand. Anyway, Cassidy was broken, comatose, and when she woke up and realized she had a scar on her face, depressed. She refused to participate in her own therapy. So Effie and Dax, in whose guest house she had been living, sent her off to stay with the Rochons, a family of bear shifters. But it’s a big secret, because she doesn’t know about bear shifters, though she does know about cougars. < Insert eye roll here>
This story was so wanting in so many ways. Like positive attributes for the heroine. Look, I understand being in an accident and getting a facial scar is a life challenging event. Maybe the author shouldn’t have put her there, especially in such a short book. There really was no time to deal with the very real issues this situation would bring up in the quick-fuck genre of shifter romance. As if having a big, handsome guy telling you that he loves you because fate will all of a sudden erase the physical and emotional pain of such a horrendous accident. So no, this was not a good situation for any heroine in this length of book . This particular heroine less so. She was described, pre-accident, as feisty. She is, in fact, barely civilized. She calls her best friend “bitch”. Really? Correct me if I’m wrong, but bitch is not a compliment. She has the discernment and maturity of a child. This book also wants for any tension, humor, or even pathos. Even the sex was, well, eh.
The audio was performed by Angela Dawe whose narrations I happen to enjoy. Sometimes she can be a bit laconic (as when she is narrating a book set in England), but with this her pacing was on point, and her character voices were distinctive.
At this time, this is the only Moxie North on Audible. Luckily, it is in the Audible Escape collection, so I don’t have to suffer buyer’s remorse.

Heart wrenched

I loved this book, it was a heart breaker. Casey and Cash’s story was so wonderful I just loved it. I loved the snark and I admit there were a few tears but wow what great writing. For me a book is great when I wish the characters were real and I could be part of the family. A bit of loving adds just enough spice to make it super hot. This is not one to pass up, you’ll love this paranormal romance. Happy listening.
