Publisher's Summary

This story is about an Italian Catholic family that came to America on vacation and never returned to their homeland. When their youngest unwed daughter became pregnant, her family disowned her. It was 1949. Abortions were illegal. She was 17 when she gave birth. She was my mother.

This audiobook chronicles the effects the birth of an unwanted child had on three families and three generations. It takes you through the unsettling chain of events that followed when my mother’s family sent her away. It shares her fight for survival to care for us, and how she eventually gave up and left me with strangers.

After years of separation we reunited, but I struggled to forgive her for all she had done. I spent a lifetime trying to find my place in the world. My greatest dream was to have a home and a family I could call my own. The audiobook tells you about the bad decisions I made along the way, and the price I paid because of them. I share with my listenerds the lessons I learned about life, and how I finally managed to find happiness.

Eehh

Not sure if it was the writing or the narrating, but this was rough.

Writing: Very choppy, and could have used a ghost writer to help with the flow.

Narrator: Needed so much in the way of voice inflection. Very one tone, little better towards the end, but not by much. Character voice distinction could have helped as well.

Story: Was interesting, it's amazing the strength people find to keep moving forward.

Narrator

The Narrator was terrible! Monotone and boring.. did not get past chapter 4, couldn’t listen to her. Think it might have been a decent book.

Glad It Was Free

The person reading the book had an unusual manor. It was quite bothersome. almost like a Jr high student reading aloud in class. It was a bit boring but being true made it more interesting. the change of person in which the story was told was weird too. hmmmm idk if I liked it. just glad I didn't pay for it.

Kindness of strangers…

To the Author…
I always enjoy hearing other’s stories! Thank you for sharing your strengths, as well as your struggles! How do we show compassion if we don’t know what others are or have gone through???
Your Mothers deserved better! I’m happy you experienced the kindness of strangers as you were taken in by such loving families!
Only those whom have suffered pain and disappointment can truly understand how you turned this all into a book! You should feel proud of yourself! Your mother did her best with very difficult obstacles! Bless her! Bless you! Thank you for sharing!

Meh

Maybe it's the slowness of the narrative, maybe it's the narrator, maybe or maybe this book is just not for me. I gave up after the third chapter.
