Publisher's Summary

My name is Roman Cavenaugh and I'm kind of an a--hole. Running a company isn't easy, especially when everyone expects you to fail. So being a jerk? It comes with the territory. I don't have time to mess around, and I sure as hell didn't see her coming.

Cara Hamilton she was supposed to be off limits...a temporary employee brought in during my assistant's maternity leave.

But, in the blink of an eye, she became so much more. An obsession I couldn't shake.

So yeah, I may be an a--hole, but now, I finally had a purpose, and soon, she would be mine.

All's fair in love and war...

✫✫ 3.5 Stars ✫✫

3.5 stars because of the insta-love. I can not seem to connect with a love story when the couple knows each other 2 weeks and are madly in love, it just doesn't work for me. Besides that I liked the storyline! I wanted Roman to get his HEA and I wanted him to be a good guy and I got that and more!

A GOOD ROMANCE WITH ALL THE RIGHT FEELS

Roman Cavanaugh's in charge of a multimillion dollar empire, he's rich, he's got the looks, the body and the sex appeal.. but he feels empty, lonely and isn't happy. At a tender age he'd overheard his Father saying he was cute but dumb and would be no good so, for a while, Roman proved to be that very thing. He never had a choice over his career - instead it was a foregone conclusion but he wasn't his Father's first choice.. no, it was Roman's younger brother Jude who was the golden child and Roman was woefully overlooked. However, Jude didn't take the helm when his Father died and it was left up to Roman to step in.. but he hated it, was bad tempered and took it out on anyone and everyone that crossed his path. That is until ditsy Cara, his new under qualified quirky temporary Assistant, blinked her big brown eyes at him and he was lost - however Roman made a good attempt to resist the pull between them because he was her boss and anyway Cara was living with her boyfriend. But Roman wasn't a patient man and it didn't take him long to concoct a devious plan... a plan that ultimately was going to be his downfall.

Cara was from a small town in Nebraska but had come to NYC to join her long time boyfriend Tyler but it was all proving a little difficult for her to fit in - her clothes were old, she was unemployed, she had relationship troubles and Cara felt a little out of her depth. Then she landed the job as Administrative Assistant to the handsome but closed off Roman Cavenaugh and her life would never be the same again because she would experience frustration, betrayal, heartbreak, heavenly highs and some earthshattering lows. And at the centre of it all was Roman's fingerprints.

This was a nicely paced enjoyable dual POV love story where there was a few obstacles standing in Roman's way before he could get the woman he had become obsessed about. And Cara, well she couldn't help but be drawn to Roman as her hopes and dreams for a future with Tyler faded to gray. Cara was a friendly, polite, calm, down-to-earth Heroine and very sweet too and Roman.. ahhh Roman, well, once the layers were slowly peeled back his true personality came out and it was great to see him flourish. There was good banter, some sexy bits, passion, low drama, a wee bit of angst a revelation.. and a touching Epilogue too. It wasn't over-filled with sex but when it did err come it was hot. Bit of an 'instant' thing once H/H got together but it didn't spoil my overall enjoyment of a very addictive listen. Great narration too.

Worth a credit? YES - this was much more than I'd hoped for as Cara took the time to see the man behind the beast and Roman strengthened Cara's weaknesses, encouraged her true potential, could see beyond her clothes and was there when she needed a friend, there when she fell.. and there when she picked herself up again. This is book 3 in the Within These Walls Duet - books 1 & 2 are little brother Jude's story which spans two books, I haven't listened to them yet and it didn't alter my enjoyment of this listen at all as this book could've been a standalone.. however, I'm sure they'll end up my cart soon.

Good story!!

What did you love best about Behind Closed Doors?

It was entertaining and interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked Cara's character, she made the book interesting. It was sad when she found out her boyfriend cheated on her. Too bad, they couldn't remain friends, considering they known each other for a long time.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Bar scene, when she punches Roman and not knowing it was her boss. That was funny.

Complete HEA

Narrators were perfectly cast for these roles. I thought they made the story come to life and allowed the characters to truly speak their story.

The book was heavier than I thought it would be. There are a few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but it isn’t the typical boss romance story!!! Complete HEA

One note- I loved how their romance had nothing to do with money. That love grew from knowing each other instead of spoiling. It really made the romance story lovely to read.

Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors is the tale of Midwestern native coming to the BIG Apple. But as her life is supposed to be turning into an episode of Friends, it seems more like a nightmare.

Her relationship
Her job
Her life

None of it is what she imagined and worse she craves more. Dangerously craves more...like her ridiculously hot grump of a boss.

Meh

Even though most of these types of stories are predictable, sometimes the author is able to throw in a twist or surprise. I didn't get that with this one. The male narrator was very dull. I found myself rewinding a lot to re "read" what I just listened to. I really wanted to like the book. It had great potential. By about half way through, I just wanted to finish it.

Wonderful finish to series

This audiobook was so well written, and a great ending to the Cavanaugh series. I always felt there was a redeemable man inside Roman, and Kara was able to bring him out. Great listening and Gabriel Vaughan has such a sexy voice that it was a delight to hear. As always, Felicity Monroe is exceptional in her narration.

Sweet story

Not what I expected. In a good way. A sweet, romantic story. Not realistic, but fairly believable, and that's what I'm looking for. None of the boring alpha nonsense. This character was a man with a respecful view of women, mostly anyway.

Couldn’t finish the book

Unfortunately this story just didn’t grab me and couldn’t keep me engaged. It seemed to drag on and I grew bored. Made it all the way to chapter 21 and then I switched off. I bored a lot sooner but tried to stick with it. Unfortunately this story wasn’t for me. The narrator’s did a good job.

Shallow immature characters.

I struggled to get behind the main characters.
I couldn’t wrap my mind around how grown, highly successful women were so bothered about one night stand, 13 years ago telling them few sweet lies.
Seriously.
They were so upset they felt the need to have a revenge. I fail to see how kidnapping the fella and then doing nothing to him counts as revenge.
One of the females have several relationships and dates several men at the same time but she’s upset this fella told her how she was the one a decade ago. Hypocrite much!!
Take the fact these are millionaires away and you might as well be reading book about 15 year old kids.
Couldn’t finish the book.
Narrators did an awesome job!

I'm loving the series

It was a joy reading Roman's story. He is a good boss that is respected by his employees but he is also seen as cold and detached and he himself do not think he deserves any better than one night stands and casual flings. Then he met Cara and his whole thought process changed. As the saying goes, opposite attracts. They brought each other to life letting them crave things they didn't even knew they were lacked. Cara brought out the best in Roman and he made Cara find her groove, together they made the story interesting. I enjoyed it.
