Publisher's Summary

The most anticipated J. Sterling release of the year is finally here! You’ve waited years to meet Jack Carter’s son, and the wait is over! Strap in and enjoy the ride.

Chance Carter is the son of local baseball legend Jack Carter. Now in his junior year at Fullton State, Chance is facing challenges he never saw coming. Failing a class will stop his draft season short, making him ineligible to play and pushing his goal of professional baseball even further away.

In steps Danika, a mouthy tutor from New York, who only wants to help him pass his class...not get in his pants. But try telling that to Chance. He doesn’t trust girls, and he definitely doesn’t trust his new tutor. A lifetime growing up as a Carter taught him that.

But Danika has issues of her own. After an incident that happened last year, she doesn’t trust athletes and wants nothing to do with them. And Chance is no exception.

The fireworks explode as the two try to deny the chemistry between them and family secrets are revealed. Chance doesn’t know how to give up on something he wants, and he’s decided he wants Danika. There’s just one problem...she has a boyfriend with whom she has no intention of breaking up.

How can he have her when she belongs to someone else?

Pretty good read

I really liked the story and the female narrator was amazing. However the male narrator had some difficulty. I had trouble differentiating between different characters, especially with the female characters. Also he didn’t use a NY accent for Danika or her Dad, which was strange because he used it once when he spoke as Danika’s Dad. He also had this weird breathing thing that was really distracting. Otherwise I really liked the book.

Hmmm, emotional cheating is still cheating

Hated pretentious storyline. Really it's the same old story about hot jock gets an immediate boner for the smart hot girl and they call it love. The caveat in this story is that the FMC is a cheater who criticize everyone else's actions but herself.

- All of the characters, were one dimensional and unlikable.
- The references to his parents love story confusing.
- Is she really going to forgo a degree to follow this guy around while he farms?... pathetic!
- A cross country real estate job proposal is not feasible, as each state in US requires a state license. NY does have a few reciprocity agreements but not with major states. Ergo, she would need to obtain 40+RE licenses - not possible.

The narration was AWFUL! OMG that horrible off/ on fake NY accent. Was that supposed to be NJ or Brooklyn coming out the mouth of a gal from the upper East side Manhattan? Who could tell what she was trying to sound like. I had to skip through most of the female's chapters or I was going to pull my hair out!

If you don't read a lot of romance then you might like it. If you do move on there is way better stuff to spend your time on.

Cute story

Originally I only chose to listen because the main character had the same name as me. I don’t hear it often.
Ended up loving it and the characters. The narrators nailed it.

cute story.

it was refreshing to hear the perspective of a guy who doesn't want all the attention he got from girls just for his fame. What was over the top was his reluctance in relationships yet he knew what he was doing romantically without the experience.

Meh

The characters were difficult to invest into, struggled to finish and just stopped listening at the last chapter. I really just did not care what happened to them.
The narration was also just Meh. The male sounded forced and monotone and the female, while having a lovely voice, could not stick to an accent.
I disliked both the writing and the narration equally.

Behind the plate

I like both books recommend them but they are long they give you a necessary information OK that you don’t want to hear the narrators especially the second book it was just so dry and so drawn out almost stopped listening but overall performance of not only this book and the other book was good because it held it does hold your interest and you want to find out how it ends that’s why you hold on listening

Chance & Danika

A witty, charming, sweet, and heartwarming story of two people that certainly belonged together. Chance and Danika have a beautiful connection that tugs at your heartstrings. It was not all roses, they did have some bumps in their journey but they talked things out like adults. I absolutely adored this story.
Narration was great.

Pitch, can ch, bat …

J Sterling not only is two-thirds through another baseball series but has continued a multigenerational baseball saga. The name of the game is baseball and the intense college draft. Sterling has done in depth research in the professional sport of Baseball and all the emotions , trials, tribulations and impact baseball draft has on individuals as each prepares to hopefully achieve life as pro-athletes, families, spouses, close friends and more.
Excellently narrated with expressions of every emotion encountered by Meg Sylvan & Oliver Clarke.
I’m excited to engulf “Safe at First”, the third and final story in this series.
I anxiously wait to see how she continues developing the Carter family members! Will offspring continue in baseball as players, the many aspects of baseball business, other professional sports, and the wide, deep emotions of supporting families/friends?
Each of J Sterling’s stories can be enjoyed alone; I love reading a series in order to fully ingest her character development.
Sterling did it again; another fascinating, emotionally gripping contemporary romance!!!

Out of the ballpark

Another fantastic sports romance from J. Sterling. Make sure to read the entire series, Including the perfect game series with Jack F’n Carter.
