The original report from Europa...

When evidence of microscopic life on Europa - Jupiter’s sixth moon - is discovered, a crew of astronauts and scientists embark on a mission to discover its source. Led by oceanographer and biologist, Kathy Connelly, the crew is charged with the task of melting through miles of ice to the hidden ocean beneath, where the search for alien microorganisms begins. But a startling discovery awaits them on the surface of Europa - life. Vast fields of red, plant-like organisms fill the cracks crisscrossing the moon’s surface, surviving on nutrients welling up from the waters below. Encouraged by the discovery of life on the surface, Connelly and her crew activate the Thermal Exploratory System and melt through the ice toward a world that does not want to be found, toward an intelligence that will do anything to make sure they never leave.

Beneath takes all of the action, thrills, imagination, and strange creatures that Jeremy Robinson is known for and puts them in the most extreme environment imaginable: the surface and sub-ice ocean of a moon four hundred million miles away from Earth.

This updated edition has been reedited, revised, repackaged, and expanded, making this new edition of Beneath superior to all that came before.

Another hit.

Man is going to the moon again....wait...they are going to a moon, not THE moon. This time around they are headed for one of the moons of Jupiter in search of life. And you know know what? They find it. And in typical Jeremy Robinson fashion it's no easy mission. No spoilers, but also typical of any Robinson novel we have an excellent cast of characters, a uttering gripping storyline, and some wild action. Note the events of this book end up showing up again some of Jeremy's later novels, not that you'd need to have read this one to enjoy those later novels, but I will say I love how so many of Jeremy's novels take place in a shared universe. The book is narrated by Jeffrey Kafer who as always does a spectacular job bringing the story to life.

I swear I've heard this before

Missed the mark on several technical aspects that were hard for me to overlook as they were serious key points and sadly they would have been simple enough to write around. Cranking an engine that roars in no atmosphere, water that remains liquid and doesn't immediately sublimate, to name a few. Also I have listed to alot of J.R.s books and for some reason I "remember" certain details of the his story though I've never listed to this story before. The description of the europhids and their abilities being one such. Anyway, this could have been better with a little more research or what I would call "qualified BS".

Love the book … but ??

Great story all the way until the end ./.. felt like he didn’t know how to end the book and just threw the ending on … nothing is more disappointing than a great story that you cannot put down and then the end is blahhhhh

Nice shift in perspective.

Loved the ending and the different perspective. Can't say much more without spoilers, but solid female characters in this one too.

Why do I keep doing this?

Why did I buy another Jeremy Robinson book? His research is so lazy, the first paragraph of Wikipedia is probably as far as he goes, and his plots tragically unrealistic. I know, it’s science-fiction, but there must be some plasibility to the things people do. Why would they send this crew at all? It would not shock me if they were going to Jupiter and the main character asked if her best friend from high school could come…. This would be an awesome and impressive book if it was written by a teenager.

Wow, that’s pretty harsh I guess….

Fantastic Audiobook

This story was like a rollercoaster. It started off a little slow but soon was shooting around corners and plunging at full speed. The narrator had just the right gravity in his voice for a thriller such as this.

Not his best .

I'm a big fan of Jeremy, but this seemed rushed. You want your favorite authors to release the next book as soon as possible, but he may be rushing it. Didn't care for the characters or the story line. Unfortunately I think the worst part was the narrator. Kafors voice would be more suited for a 50's detective story, and not doing voices for scientists or female characters. It was the toughest book to get through in a long time.

Not my favorite

I've listened to a LOT of Jeremy Robinson's books. This one didn't really grab me. A little dryer than most of his books. Characters didn't have the depth of personality that i usually enjoy in his books. Still love the imagination and creativity of what it might be like to visit a world with alternate life. Also, I did like meeting the Europhids in our present time and comparing for myself how much more evolved they've in the future in Dark Horse. Though they're still quite advanced on Europa. Moving on to the next Jeremy Robinson book on my list!

Didn’t get very far

I didn’t get very far with this one. I just couldn’t keep track of what was going on. Not sure if it was the narrator although I do like Jeffrey Kafer. I think it was just the book. It seem to start out with a meteor crash and then just jumped all over the place it seem to me. Not sure if I would recommend it or not. Others might like it.

Enjoyed the story but not the narrator

I nearly gave up on this book at the start as I struggled to actually take any of it in. I think this was due to the narration style, it was way to fast for me. it felt as if I was being bombarded and there were no breaks between sentences. I slowed the speed down on the narration to .85 and this helped me get through the book. It was an interesting concept and story and I didn't want the narration to put me off.

A different kind of Robinson story.

I've recently been listening to Robinson's early "Origin" books (which are standalone, not so much a series) and have been a lot of fun to see where he started. So far, they definitely hold up as fun and interesting reads with great narration. Robinson always has such great details in his work. Worth checking out.
