Publisher's Summary

Romance is in the air!

Elaine is still far from home, far from Remus. Her friends and family don't even know if she's alive.

However, not all is lost. Elaine has fallen in with some elves, who are willing to let her tag along while they head in the general direction of her home. They're off hunting shimagu, deadly bodyjackers that steal away all autonomy.

Elaine finds a small measure of comfort in Serondes's arms, experimenting with her first relationship. Experimenting with granting others Immortality.

As Elaine travels with the elves, she needs to wrestle with numerous questions: Is the relationship with Serondes going anywhere? What's in the egg that she's keeping safe and warm? Can the elves be trusted? What happened with the civil war in Remus? And should the shimagu be treated like people, or like parasites?

Meh story, keeps on hitting the same point

I feel like Elaine hasn't developed in a meaningful way since the series start, every issue is the same 2 or 3 dressed differently. And the sex talk, I'm a girl and even I felt a cringe coming on from the 90% one sided overPC hypocrisy she was spouting, more so without her explanation as to why she's had trouble dating

sad

2 chapters on sex are garbage. the rest of the book was great. but the overall was ruined by the garage in the middle.

Can't wait for more!

while this was not the best book of the series it was still enjoyable and expanded on the world a bit so that was nice I can't wait for the next one!

Awkward romance

The first half is a young (adult) girls first serious romance but the second half just about flips the tone completely and the ending wrap up is just some fun normalcy

good, but worst of the lot

While good, I still care less about most of the major interludes. Perhaps it's just me though. Good stuff, keep it up!

Another delightful installment

Loved it. Every moment of cringe felt very fitting considering the life Elaine has lived imo. I definately reccomend giving a read still. the innocent yet mature look at love Elaine has is refreshing and interesting. Really enjoying see where Iona's story is going. Excited for the next installment for sure. ♡

good but definitely the weakest so far

I follow the story online and have already read the section of the story. cute dating stuff, traveling, elaboration of the world. all in all it's still very enjoyable but if you're wanting the greater story to make big advancements you'll need to wait for the next book.

Slightly frustrating but gets better

The beginning of the book has much more of a slice of life kind of feel. Nothing wrong with that just felt like the urgency of getting home was lost. The main issue I had was when the action started, most of the time was spent inside the MC's head! Even at a time of great danger and intensity, it was bogged down by so much internal dialog! I felt frustrated on how long it took just for the scene to move on! After all that nonsense, the book picks up the urgency again and moves on at a much better pace. It's still a good book and I look forward for the next one! One last thing, I do believe the "Sex Talk" was handled well. communication is key to any relationship no matter the subject.

Awesome series but lost me in this one

I typically have struggled with female MC stories or female written stories in the past because I feel disconnected from the story almost immediately and I almost always read and imagine stories as if I was the MC. This is one of like 3 stories with female MCs that I have truly and enjoyed within LitRPG. However, this book took a drastic turn and started a romance which is off puting to me as a male reader imagining myself in the MC shoes where she just goes on and on about wanting to have sex with the most handsome and perfect elf in the world. Like we got it after the first 5 chapters of straight up fan service for female readers but after nearly 10 chapters of this crap we get to the sex talk chapter. Like seriously? A sex talk chapter where beings that have lived thousands of years are suddenly learning about consent? And did it really need an entire chapter? Like I know the author really wanted to ram her viewpoints down our throats (non-consensually I may add), but did it really need to be that long and pointless? Seriously it's an easy concept. "If at any point and time I don't want to have sex or do anything even if I accepted in the past you can't do it. I dont want you to pressure me and I don't want you to force me in anyway." Done. Consent explained in 20 seconds. Why drag that talk through shit back and forth and give dozens of examples of something that can be explained in 20 seconds. I really loved the first 5 books and I struggled mightily with this one. I may be dropping if the series continues with this type of shit in following releases.

Disliked the start but enjoyed everything else.

The romance portion early on was not for me, but you may enjoy it. I took breaks before coming back. Everything else was just as good as the past books.

Still good

The first part was a bit slow, but it picks up towards the end.

Too short

I want MORE it's just so good, also pretty much the whole book I was waiting to get back to Elaine's home but then we were only there for like 2 chapters and I was physically shaking with excitement during the two chapters but then got really disappointed when we skipped off back to Iona

Need More!

Another great book, the elves were definitely my least favourite part of the series. That and all the forced romance. I skipped the “sex talk” chapters and found I missed literally nothing of importance to the story beyond feeling cringe.

Really loved the last few chapters. I’m super excited for what happens next. Overall another great book and I look forward to buying the next one.
