I shouldn't have remembered him. He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn't know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all. But I could feel him. The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.

I crawled into Ryan Jensen’s bed that first night by accident. I barely knew him. I thought it was his sister’s bed - her room. It took seconds to realize my error, and I should've left... I didn’t. I didn’t jump out. I didn’t get embarrassed. I relaxed. And that night, in that moment, it was the only thing I craved. I asked to stay. He let me, and I slept. The truth? I never wanted to leave his bed. If I could've stayed forever, I would have. He became my sanctuary. Because - four hours earlier - my twin sister killed herself.

He walked into school on his first day and owned it. I guess that's what happens when you're a prick, rich, and you're best friends with the ruling school's king. Also didn't hurt that he's drop-dead gorgeous. That's all fine. I mean, I have nothing to do with them. I'm a loner, invisible, and that's how I wanted it to be. I was even proud of it, until I wasn't. His name is Blaise Devroe. My name is Aspen Monson. He only knew how to get, command, and demand attention. I knew how to do everything but that. Nate Monson was gorgeous, obnoxiously wealthy, and a player. He was also the person who could destroy my world with a single decision. I walked into that bar looking for him. He saw me. I saw him. The chemistry sizzled between us, but no. I hated Nate Monson. I hated him with everything in me, even though my body did not. It didn't matter. Nothing I wanted mattered. He thought I wanted to get laid. What I wanted was for him to disappear. But first, I had to tell him that he had a daughter.

He told me to settle. He asked what was wrong with me. He called me an easy target. That was within minutes when I first met Caden Banks. I labeled him an asshole, but he was more than that. Arrogant. Smug. Alpha. He was also to-die-for gorgeous, and my stepbrother's fraternity brother. Okay, yes I was a little naive, a tad bit socially awkward, and the smallest amount of stalker-ish, but if Caden Banks thought he could tell me what to do, he had another thing coming.

I have loved Channing Monroe all my life. In first grade, he asked for my Trapper Keeper. I hit him in the head with it. Third grade, we were best friends. We kissed in seventh grade. In eighth grade, he turned into a bad boy and the rest was a tumultuous storm. Growing up, the problem was never love for us. Bad times. Good times. There were times when I felt our love in every inch of my body, vibrating, making me feel like it could bring me back to life. The problem was us. The problem is that we're living in two different worlds now. Fallen Crest and its millionaires for me.

One punch took him from Hollywood’s Golden Boy to Bad Boy Brody. The media didn’t care he was grieving his brother’s death. They descended on him, but to change his reputation, his manager got him a deal. Act in an indie film, one that already had Oscar buzz, and he’d get the movie roles he needed to secure his future. He took the deal. Yet he wasn’t prepared for the real-life people behind the script. He wasn’t prepared for the murder the movie was based on. And he really wasn’t prepared for her, the biggest secret of all. She was wild. She was beautiful. She defied gravity.

Sheldon doesn't care about anyone except Corrigan and Bryce. The three of them rule their school, but it seems someone else wants in on the action or that someone else just wants Sheldon. How many bodies is enough to prove their love to her? This book is dark and edgy with sexual situations, drinking, swearing, murder, and more messed-up parents.

Publisher's Summary
There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.
The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.
I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.
He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.
Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.
Then I met him.
He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.
Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.
Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.
Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

Love Tijan❤️but hated narrator💔
Tijan writes great books, her Fallen Crest series is my fav all time in that genre! I believe reading this book would may be the answer because I couldn’t get past the narrator, unfortunately. My god, her voice thru every word, sentence , hell the entire book sounded like a hysterical woman, a woman who had just run up screaming at a principal for giving her son a B instead of an A. In other words, over excited & spazzed out about not much. She made this book so unbelievable i was cringing and forcing myself to finish because of my loyalty to the author.
Please Tijan, pleeeeeze never use her again!
Sure this book had the elements of a dangerous world but come on... the protagonist is written as a girl whose grown up around mafia & the violence etc surrounding it. The narration was just waaaay off. Ugh I hate writing this review but there u go!

Narrator is too dramatic all the time
This is the first book I have listened to with this narrator. I am not sure if she was directed to be so dramatic and over the top or not. I feel it takes away from the story for me. Makes me wish I had just started this on my kindle instead of trying to listen to it. Her male voices were also sort of lacking and almost comical at times.
After chapter 16 I bought the kindle version and continued to read it there. I could not listen anymore. The narration sounded like a hysterical person 2/3 of the time and that was ruining the story for me.

Tijan never fails, Narration does
Another new and different classic in the Tijan body of work!
Characters are great and I would love to read more about the secondary ones we meet in their own story; alas though, the author points out on her Amazon page that this is a standalone read.
Pity :(

Just No
Once they were roommates. But that was years ago. Still, Riley considers Brooke a friend so when word that the Mafia Princess is missing she is rattled. Brooke was fun, she was the first friend Riley had, she was the first to act like she mattered. Riley is grown, has a new life, and hasn't heard from her friend in years but days after she's declared missing, her brother Kai, head of the mafia kidnaps her. He is certain Riley knows where his sister is and he is determined that she will lead him to Brooke. Riley has secrets. How far is she willing to go to protect them? Can she keep them from Kai even if she wants to? Nothing is more important than his family and no one is going to keep them apart.
I am a huge Tijan fan but in the last few years, her books have been inconsistent. I was excited about this one. To be honest, I struggled to finish. I kept at it thinking Tijan would work her magic somewhere along the way. I was disappointed. The mafia lacked its fictional romance, the relationship between Riley and Kai never felt developed, and the characters were at best not likable and at worst plain irritating. Riley is the first main female character of Tijan's that I was not a fan of. Riley/Raven had training. We know because she told us...repeatedly. That's the only way we know because she never showed it during the story. As a 411 Operative, she rescued people, hid them from the bad guys, yet once in Kai Bennett's hands she throws out any sense of training, intelligence, and sanity. She vomits repeatedly, screams, whines, and cries, passes out more than once, and has a seizure from stress. Mind you, she was never treated poorly. She made things so much more difficult for herself and everyone else than they had to be. It was clearly inevitable that she would fall for Kai but she subjected us to hundreds of pages of whining, second-guessing, and self-loathing. Honestly, I don't understand why Kai was even interested. Not that the Bennett's were particularly likable at times either, feeling sorry for themselves over their family one minute, committing crimes the next. The mafia storyline and the missing princess storyline were erratic. Kind of like Brooke Bennett herself. They had potential but fell short. Kai's brief flashes of humor, the council meeting, and a few scenes here and there between the brothers were the only signs that this was a Tijan book. This was not up to her normal standards.
I have great respect for the narrators. I think it's a difficult job to bring the character off the page, especially when the readers have their own ideas that may conflict. Natalie Eaton captured Riley. Unfortunately. I could barely listen to her whining and crying. Her hysteria grated on my nerves in the book, The audio was almost too much. This is not a reflection of Natalie. She can't change the character. As I said, it's unfortunate

WHAT A WILD UNSTOPPABLE RIDE
Well Tijan, what a wonderful surprise this riveting meaty adult Mafia story was.. as chapter after chapter I never knew where you’d take the story, what you’d sucker punch me with next or how it could all get resolved. The good girl with a dark background and the dangerous Boss with an equally dark past.. and a darker future. The intense chemistry was there from their very first brief teen meeting.. but it would be fourteen years before they’d be forced to meet again - and when they did.. it’s a clash of wills. It’s also non-stop drama, suspense, tension, family angst, bloodshed, secrets, shocking revelations, heartache and a strained relationship between a cold-blooded genius and his kidnapped angel of mercy.
A good Mafia story is my kryptonite.. and this well-written story wasn’t just good - it was great. Told entirely from the heroine’s PoV it also has sex, passion, shocks, character development, chills and thrills. The brilliant narration by Natalie Eaton brought the binge-worthy plot to life.
Worth a credit? It’s in the Romance Package folks so it’s pretty much free.. but I would’ve happily used a credit on it.

Enter Kai Bennett - my new favourite book boyfriend
Each book that Tijan writes just gets better and better. I don’t think it’s possible, but she does it every single time. Bennett Mafia may just be her best yet, I truly believe that. Two heroes, yes two, because believe me Kai Bennett was not the only hero in this story, I think Riley may have surpassed him for that title, it was a close call. Action, romance with lots of expected, unexpected twists and turns, because let’s face it, this is a Tijan book we’re reading. Nothing is predictable, and I mean nothing. My heart was in my mouth, I was laughing, I was crying, I was hoping, I was praying. I was completely hooked. Mafia romance at its best. I loved the Bennett family, all of them, even when I didn’t. Kai most of all, he was lethal, he was bad, he was good, he was my perfect mafia hero, one step ahead all the time. Riley was passionate, stubborn and the perfect match for my new favourite book boyfriend. I was hooked from the get-go. Perfect story, perfect writing, perfect narration, perfect everything.

Loved it!
I love Tijan’s books and this one was no exception! I’ve been wanting to read this one for ages. Do I wish some things had played out differently... yes I do 😭 I won’t elaborate because I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone but there’s one particular part that I wish hadn’t gone so wrong.
Kai was perfection when it comes to a Mafia king lover. He was dark & unforgiving in general but when it come to Riley & his family he was loving & caring.
Riley was the definition of a strong heroine. She stood her ground even with people she knew were dangerous, even when inside she was scared shitless.
I would of loved if this story had been dual POV. We don’t get to hear Kai tell Riley his true feelings until the very end of the book although it was obvious by the way he treated Riley. He loved her but he loathed that he was tainting her goodness and he hated himself for it.
Over all the story was enjoyable. It kept me interested and wanting to know what was coming next. It was oh so steamy 🔥 with quite low angst as the feelings & sexual tension between them was there from the very beginning.
The narrator was very enthusiastic and gave life to the characters.

Never a letdown
I loved this book! It wasn't as mind-blowing as some of the books by Tijan but it was still an awesome story. The romance in this has a few heartbreaking scenes, but that is just what makes an awesome book. This book covers trust, loyalty, and the extent some people will go to to protect the people they love, definitely making you wish for something just as amazing in your future. This book isn't one of the usual books where the reader knows everything before the character but instead allows a bit of mystery on who is lying and who is telling the truth. Tijan is definitely still one of my favourite authors and I'm am excited to see what else I can read of hers. If you have read the blurb and think you will like it, give it a shot. I loved this book!
