The impeccably dressed Charlie McCarthy was as sarcastic as he was stylish. His country cousin Mortimer Snerd was buck-toothed, bucolic...and just as fondly remembered. But it was the egalitarian and exquisitely entertaining Edgar Bergen who brought them to life. Enjoy this Peabody Award winning team in 16 digitally restored and remastered episodes - many of which have not been available since their original broadcast in 1942! Story
"I'll clip ya, Bergen... so help me, I'll mow you down!" Charlie cheerfully threatens, insults, and otherwise needles the elegant Edgar through 16 digitally remastered episodes - all of them from the 1950s, and seven of them never before available to the public. The aging, man-crazy mannequin Effie Clinker bends your ear (and her elbow); and modest Mortimer Snerd gives new meaning to the phrase "ventriloquist's dummy".

Story
Casanova…Don Juan…Charlie McCarthy? Ventriloquist Edgar Bergen achieved stardom playing both straight man and comedian with his wooden alter ego Charlie McCarthy. The Charlie McCarthy Show was one of radio’s top-rated shows for nearly two decades. Button down and bow-tied, the gentlemanly Bergen would never behave improperly with a lady. Charlie, on the other hand, is frisky, flirtatious, and brave enough to bring his game to guests Bette Davis and Hedy Lamarr, among others.

Story
In the realm of unforgettable radio voices, there is one that stands head and shoulders above all others - one distinctive voice that could never be convincingly duplicated, one that brought its owner undreamed of success. It was a voice of sandpaper and gravel and rusty scrap iron, rasping over a nation's loudspeakers for more than 30 years.

Story
In one of the goofiest slapstick comedies on the radio, Archie the bartender assaulted the English language and insulted most of Hollywood. Portrayed by series creator Ed Gardner, Archie had hard luck with the ladies. But he must have had some appeal to draw a group of guest stars like Marlene Dietrich, Gypsy Rose Lee, Chester Morris, Ed Wynn, Bob Crosby, Rudy Vallee, and more.

Publisher's Summary
Here's one of radio's greatest comic rivalries: the blustery W. C. Fields facing off against the impudent Charlie McCarthy! You'll also hear Don Ameche, Dorothy Lamour, Nelson Eddy, and some guy named Edgar Bergen! The pomposity of Fields' comic persona clashes spectacularly with Charlie's, the foe of the haughty and the self-absorbed, in their no-holds-barred feud. Before and after their battles, the more composed Bergen plays host to a variety of guest stars, including Carole Lombard, Hoagy Carmichael, Rodgers & Hart, and more. These nine digitally remastered episodes feature Fields' first and last appearances as a regular cast member and his last appearance as a guest.
Episodes Include: Guests: Ann Harding, Rodgers & Hart, 05-09-37; Guest: Carole Lombard, 05-16-37; Guests: Josephine Hutchinson and Jose Iturbi, 05-30-37; Guests: Zazu Pitts and Hoagy Carmichael, 07-04-37; Guest: Gladys George, 07-11-37; Guests: Alice Brady and Allan Jones, 08-15-37; W. C. Fields' Last Regular Cast Appearance, 08-29-37; Guest: W. C. Fields, 09-21-41; Guest: W. C. Fields, 03-24-46.

The Dummy and the Drunk.
This was a great show. Bergen & McCarthy and W. C. Fields what a great triple act. Their mock feud almost lasted a Decade. They were making fun with each other until the last year of Fields life. This audio also has guest stars like Abbott and Costello and Dorothy Lamore. This was classic humor at its best

Old Time Radio Shows
Great to hear the interactions between Charlie and WC Fields. They are hilarious, and I'm not a big Fields fan. One star off because the songs don't work for me. As with most Audible products it could use an index.
