Publisher's Summary

Best Loser Wins is an intimate insight into one of the most prolific high-stake retail traders in the world. Tom Hougaard is the winner of multiple trading competitions and on one occasion traded £25,000 into more than £1 million over the course of a year.

While the average retail trader risks £10 per point in the underlying asset, Tom Hougaard frequently risks up to £3,500 per point. This risk exposure requires a mindset that is out of the ordinary. Normal thinking leads to normal results. For exceptional results, traders must think differently.

This book will guide and inspire you in ways no other trading book has. It is not about strategies and money management. It is about mind management. Tom Hougaard provides a unique and refreshingly personal account of how an ordinary trader elevated his game to incredible heights by focusing as much on his mental approach as on his technical analysis.

Best Loser Wins explains how you, by thinking differently when you are trading, can elevate your game from mediocre and sporadic, to excellent and consistent. No amount of technical analysis will ever do that for you.

Tom Hougaard says, “People don’t fail because they don’t know enough about technical analysis. They fail because they don’t understand what the markets are doing to their minds.” Best Loser Wins is an antidote to conventional and flawed thinking in trading, and a blueprint for a new belief system for traders who want to elevate their results to levels they never dreamed they could reach.

A fantastic look at the mindset of trading. A gem!

A fresh look and insight into the required mindset to becoming a successful trader. Well written with good stories of a traders journey by someone who has lived it and came out the other side sucessfully, and still sane. Trading is a batter of whit over emotion and Tom has done all traders a favor with this book. Get it. Read it. You'll love it. I found it when I really needed it most. Now I cant wait to realize my full potential. -SemiPro (@CapDefender)

Day traders need this tough lesson

Once you get the mechanics and chart reading out of the way in your trading career, almost all of the next battle is psychology. It’s a mental game not mechanical. There is art, skill and it’s emotion that gets in the way of the play. This book along with Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas is all you need to conquer your mind to allow you to make money

Changed my trading mindset

Probably the best book I have listened to on day trading. It has really helped me change my mindset, and has already helped me improve my p&l by scaling into and staying in my winning trades longer. Highly recommend this book.

Not just another trading book!

Mr. Hougaard discussing uncomfortable key aspects of trading which majority of traders do not practise.
The author describes in very thorough way trading flaws of the mind and methods you may find useful to overcome them.
There’s no system, strategy or buy here and sell here formula, instead you will find many valuable information about the mindset of a successful trader.
Absolute must read for any aspiring trader.

Having said that, there are no unique points presented, there are few personal stories but not of a great trading psychology significance. It’s more the author’s personal journey and how he skilfully adopted trading psychology he learned from others.
Mr. Hougaard book is a consolidation of trading psychology already taught by e.g. Mark Douglas, Dr. David Paul, Charlie D, “Phantom of the pits”.
5 stars for the effort of putting all of it together in an engaging narrative.

For those who are ready.

600 dollars now or 100,000 dollars in four hours - which would you choose? Most people would say 100, 000 dollars of course. But when you're a trader, it's a different answer. Most would take the 600 (like I used to). This book is for those who are ready to try for the 100,000. But it will take discipline, effort, patience, all those traits that aren't easy to gain. This book will help. Give it a try.

Not the best, but we'll worth the time!

Tom is a legendary trader, that alone is a good reason to read the book. Not the best trading psychology book, but if you've run out of them give this one a shot.

Great content: all mindset and no technicals

Great book. Didn’t like the narrator, would have been much better being Tom himself, but the content is very good. I’m convinced Tom is right: The best loser wins. I am now working towards being the best loser.

Destined to be a classic

This book is different. It’s a step up from the classic Trading in the Zone. It’s raw and it helps experienced traders look deep inside themselves - at what matters - which isn’t so much charts and PE ratios, but feelings and the behaviour they engender.

Fear the losers admire the winners

When your in a losing trade he tendency is to hold on and hope. When your in a winner you want to cut it short and bank your profits. This book will help you understand why this approach will lead to a short trading career.

The real deal

Loved it. The mental aspect of trading is absolutely key. As Tom describes, if people generally win more often then they lose, then they have all the technical knowledge required. So if they still lose overall it’s because they take profits too soon because they’re fearful the profit will vanish, and they hang on to losers too long because they’re hoping they’ll turn around. Hope and fear. The game is about emotions and Tom does an awesome job of describing that.

And this isn’t some academic or random YouTuber turned author - Tom has the track record to back up his thesis.

Should be read by every aspiring trader and basically anyone who notices emotional trading like the above telling hold of their trades.

Great read 👍😊
