Publisher's Summary

Siege the castle? Not my style. Save the world? Never gonna happen. Create a bestiary business with a group of beautiful yet contrasting women? Now that’s more like it!

One minute I’m in a tree, pointing my camera at a tiger, the next I’m on my back in a medieval fantasy world, while a skittish blonde hovers over me, hoping I’m not dead.

I’ve never felt more alive.

Because although the dutiful smith’s assistant warns me away from the town’s sinful witch, I still have to go. The witch has the only bestiary book in town, and that’s my one hope of a comfortable life - I don’t feel like donning knight's armor.

Turns out, the bestiary is terrible - it's just primitive drawings, annotated by the tall tales of drunken adventurers. I know an opportunity when I see one. It’s a good thing I’ve been transported here with my camera.

If only I knew someone with magic powers, able to transfer film to parchment. Someone like the witch, currently scowling at me. How will she look when I turn her house into a walk-in bestiary?

And how about a scribe to pen beautiful prose beside the photos? The shy smith’s assistant wrote some incredible weaponry advertisements. I can find a few better uses for her.

It’s a shame the girls dislike each other. I’m gonna have to show them they’re more similar than they know. For starters, they’ve both taken a liking to me, and I don’t feel like choosing.

Warning, this novel contains an unconventional relationship and adult situations, involving:

  • A shy smith’s assistant with adorable blonde pigtails, who’s going to learn to speak up for herself
  • A snarky witch in a black dress, who’s going to learn to keep her mouth shut
  • A vicious goblin, who's going to...you’ll just have to wait and see

Enjoyable slice of life story in a medieval world

I enjoyed this story and the narration.

Unlike many haremlit stories, the MC of Bestiary isn’t a game-playing dweeb with a crappy job who’s transported into another world. MC Harry has quite a successful wilderness photography business, and is planning on creating his own company so he doesn’t have to answer to his current CEO or put up with the CEO’s imbecile son. And then, he’s killed by a tiger after protecting his pretty assistant Cassie.

He wakes in a strange, medieval world with magic and goblins. He first meets shy MC Holly, and later meets the sassy MC witch Piper, neither of whom like each other. Using the witch’s magic, Harry is able to bring his images of tigers (is 35mm film camera came with Harry to the new world) to parchment and villagers are amazed and willing to pay to see the photos.

So industrious Harry is able to start a photography business on his new world, with the help of Piper and later Holly. And yes, the girls do learn to appreciate each other!

This is a relatively slow moving slice of life fantasy story. MC Harry is adapting to life on this world, and while he is self-confident, he isn’t so OP that he doesn’t have to think his way out of situations. I like that the two girls initially were at odds with each other, and I enjoyed listening to the erotic scenes between everyone.

Narrator Tom North is new to me, and he has a strong British accent, but his melodious narration works well for the pace of the story. Narrator Faye Bishop is also new to me, and she does a terrific job delivering distinctive voices that are enjoyable to listen to.

Bestiary is a 4.5* audiobook for me; rounded up to 5*

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

My rating and my review was not in anyway affected by my having been provided a review copy.

not slice of life

if you are thinking to pick this up based on "slice of life" tag, don't
per definition if you google it, slice of life is : "a realistic representation of everyday experience in a film, play, or book."

harem fantasy erotica is better descriptors and "wants to be perseved as alfa male" potagonist

and plenty of unrealistic situations thats far from a realistic representation of normal human interactions.

Time waster

This is a rough one. It makes no sense and the mc is bland and has no consequence to anything he does. The interactions don’t make sense. This is basically a fluff dream in writing. Not worth a credit.

Zero Consequents

in a wolrd were every flip of the coin is heads. no mater what is going on there is no Consequents for the MC, everything is sunshine and rainbows, life is to easy.

want a girl? say Hi. want to? tell them you want two. oh I am rich now will almost zero effort? neat!

Performance is ok, but the over all emotion is strongly lacking and lacking hard. its hard to tell if anyone his happy or mad when they speak.

Great story... Narration 3/5

The story is great and very well written. That's what drew me to it. But the narration. is. very. robotic. The narrator reads like he's trying to over pronounce every single word, and reading. every. word. slowly.

Quality assurance failure

Editing screwed-up massively. Many of the female narrator's lines are skipped, repeated, or out of order. I assume the only reason the male narrator's remain intact is that they used them as the baseline.

good start, but series goes down hill

Really enjoyed the first book, second was decent but harrem was taking over, and third book was nothing but the same sex scene repeated over and over again.

Different, but not in a bad way!

In my opinion it's an unexpectedly awesome, slowburn Harem with very pleasant comedic moments and unique premise.

The start was quite hard for me to get into, because it has no real "BANG!!! POW!!! Kill the bad guys with you deathbeam of sudden Overpoweredness"

BUT I quickly fell in love with this story.
I know it's a harem blablabla, it's a really good harem tho! The MC is not a complete dork and the Girls have a... wait for it.... PERSONALITY!!!
It has some dom and sub elements which were strangly wholesome to me.

Finally I can only recommend this book and I'm really looking forward for more.

Rather simple, MC with magic pheromones

Professional wildlife photographer dies to a tiger while on a shoot and reincarnates on another world. Has an idea to continue his job in this world documenting all the non-human races.
7/10 - Rather simple, but I do like the story. However the women just agree to the MC almost instantly. It's as if he is releasing succubus pheromones without knowing.

a more chill isekai story

A more chill and calm story with a higher focus on adventuring and exploring rather then extermination of monsters.
The narrators did a good job, especially the male VA but the female VA did lack a bit of something but good enough.
