Publisher's Summary

Nepali climber Nims Purja is the first man ever to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter "Death Zone" peaks. He did so in less than seven months, breaking the previous record of seven years.

In this spellbinding memoir, tied to the acclaimed Netflix documentary 14 Peaks, Purja reveals the man behind the climbs, explaining how his early life in Nepal and training as a soldier in Britain's elite Gurkha and SBS units allowed him to achieve a mountaineering mission few thought was attainable. Purja shows how leadership, integrity, and collaboration drive world's greatest climbing feats, including the first-ever winter ascent of Pakistan's K2 - another mountaineering milestone that he achieved in January 2021.

Both profound and inspiring, this intimate book reveals what it takes to go miles beyond the possible.

5 stars for the achievement 3 stars for the book.

I found parts of the book interesting and inspiring but others less so. Some parts felt rushed, others repetitive. In many cases it just felt like an extended boast about how great and superhuman his abilities were. It was meant to be inspirational, I'm sure, but the accomplishment itself was so unrelatable to us mere mortals that I didnt find much personal inspiration. I know it was meant to be a memoir but I think if the author would have put in more history or info on mountaineering or would have focused a bit more on the environmental aspect or the Sherpas story (which was supposidly the reason he was doing the mission) I did finish the book but something about it was cringey for me.

The only thing in your way is you.

Great to hear about those who don't get the credit. The ones behind the scenes who provide an essential service to those in the limelight. Sherpa's rock.

Inspiring! Great narration!

Nims goes into greater detail than his documentary amd shares invaluable lessons on how to conquer fear, mental hurdles, physical limits, and emotional woes. Great narration makes all the difference too.

There is a lot of valuable insight in this wonderful book

It’s a surgeon to one man soul and how his discoveries can help others deal with their challenges. This is an amazing accomplishment I am a mountaineer. I know how tough this stuff is I have reached many of the same conclusions that he did but he made those conclusions under much more severe circumstances. He’s a remarkable individual and a very good writer. Enjoy the book. If it helps look up each mountain as he climbs it and check out the routes that he takes.
I wish I could meet him and hug him and give him congratulations personally

ugh...large side serving of climate craziness

Thankfully Audible has the 30sec advance button. While I totally agree that mountaineers should pack out ALL their s#!t (pun intended) at times it seemed Nims was channeling greta thuneberg.

Otherwise, a great and inspiring story of what's possible when you stay positive and drive the F on. "The impossible only takes 5 minutes longer." is a motto often repeated in our household.

Great job on your achievement Nims!
